I have a 23 year old Grumman side console boat that has seen a LOT of big water between Lake Erie and Ontario so I have a few loose rivets. I would have to completely disassemble the inside of the boat to get to them so I wire brushed, sanded and cleaned the area with alcohol and then smeared silicone chalking over them and have had VERY good success with this. Don't discount silicone chalking so fast. Also if the rivets loosen up once they will loosen up again. Bob

Can someone from Toronto Area enlighten me

For all my lawyer and doctor friends. Statistics can be alarming at times! There is a book out, "How to Lie with Statistics". Subject: guns vs doctors Doctors: (A) The number of doctors in the U.S. is 700,000 ( Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are 120,000 ( C) Accidental deaths per physician is 17.14% * Statistics courtesy of the U.S. Dept of Health &Human Services [] Guns: (A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000 (yes that's 80 million) ( The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500 ( C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.001875% * Statistics courtesy of the FBI [] So statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners. Remember, guns don't kill people, doctors do. Not everyone has a gun, but almost everyone has at least one doctor. Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!! Out of concern for the public at large, we have withheld statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention. -

Plano Tackle Box Issue-----> UPDATE
Billy Bob replied to TroutnMuskieHunter's topic in General Discussion
YEP, You can't beat Plano with a Ugly Stick Don't know if they are still made in Plano, Texas but they guarantee their products for LIFE. They don't advertise that but it's true. -
Sounds like the same thing we use to garnish sewer trout here.

We fish either out of the Catt or Dunkirk Harbor (NY side) and we don't even slow the boat down in August until we hit 80-85 foot. There is a LOT of water deeper that the walleyes will school into starting in August and continue until sometime in September when the first fall type storm rolls in. The deepest I have ever caught a walleye in was 120 feet right on the bottom but that was with a downrigger. I often fish 90-100 feet of water for walleyes in Lake Erie. I use the large dipsy's and can easily get them down to 65 without using wire line. I like 30# Power Pro with 20# Fluorocarbon leaders. Large worm harnesses have been doing the best the last few years over lures. One thing that hasn't been mention here and is VERY important is you MUST have a quality rod holder for your dipsy diver rod. You will not last 10 minutes holding a rod that is dragging a dipsy diver around. The pull is tremendous.

I will never buy another ford product again

My son's 2002 Pontiac Sunfire with only 70,000 miles on it just got diagnosed with a bad head gasket and a bad fuel pump. The mechanic he took it to also said it needs a water pump, new serpentine belt, plug wires and plugs. This will cost just over $2200.00 for a car that's worth $3000.00. Time to trade it in for a Toyota RAV4 if it makes it to the dealership -

But world wide Toyota is outselling GM as per this USA article. http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2007-0...toyota-gm_N.htm -

That's what I thought when I was young and naive. Go into any car show room and there will be at least one foreign vehicle there, however the salesmen will tell you that your doing the right thing by buying a domestic vehicle. What a bunch of CRAP. As long as you purchase said foreign vehicle from them. then it's OK. Remember, "what makes the world go around". Money talks Bull walks. Bob -

Just to set the record straight Toyota built a HUGE new plant in San Antonio, Texas to build the newly designed Tundra starting in 2007. They also build them in Indiana where my beloved Tundra was born. Now because of the gas prices and economy Toyota is cutting back on the Texas plant by I believe 50% If the Big Three built better vehicles like they should, then the imports would never had gotten a foot hold on the American/Canadian market. I feel bad for the guys and gals that work the line at these car manufacturing plants. They don't design the vehicles, they just put them together. However, when a vehicle stops selling because of bad reliability they are the ones who get laid off while the all the suits who made all the decisions still get their Christmas bonuses. Go Figure ! ! ! -

WOW, for supposedly knowing so much about the Tundra you don't even have the engine correct. Toyota doesn't make a 5.9 L engine Park your truck and let me back into the front fender with my rear bumper and lets see the same damage occur. ALL vehicles are made with thin sheet metal to hold down cost and weight. I have a friend that will ONLY purchase American made articles if possible. He found in his trade magazine (he's a calibration technician) a article about the Toyota Tundra's commercials. The bottom line of the article was they checked up on the Tundra's commercials and they were indeed all true, no smoke and mirrors. I moved 4 cords of wood for him in the Tundra and after that he recommended the truck to his brother. However, his brother did not purchase one because as Pete says he is cheap and is still driving his clunker around with the fenders and bumpers just about dragging down the street. (I will try to find the magazine in the future to post) Bottom line for me is, I will NEVER purchase another Ford or GM truck. I can't give my opinion on Dodge trucks since I have never owned one. I did have several of their cars in the 70's and nothing but bad luck with them. Purchase whatever you like but I will no longer support Bankrupt Motors or the Ford Motor Co. Bob -

I only wish that was true. How do you prevent spark plugs from spitting out or a fly wheel from cracking not to mention having to replace brake rotors every 12-18 months. I graduated from SUNY at Alfred better know as Alfred Tech with a degree in auto mechanics. End up working on the railroad for 30 years and take care of a fleet of GM trucks for several years. I know or at least back then knew my away around a repair shop. I still maintain all my vehicles because I really don't trust anyone else. But when your in warranty you have to have the Stealership repair your vehicle -

Is UTUBE your bible on how to pick a truck. For each one of those clips I could show you several about GM and Ford but I wouldn't waste anyones time with that Bull. My SOLID BUILT Tundra has not gone back for even one repair or adjustment. I can't say that about ANY of the Fords or GM's I owned. And FORD / GM has been building trucks for what, 100 years and they still don't have it right. Not only are the Ford's tranny bad but what about the engines spitting out spark plugs like pop corn and then Ford telling it's customer to take a hike. Been there done that. Until you have owned a TUNDRA you shouldn't comment on something you know little about. BTW the 2008 Toyota TUNDRA was Motor Trend's truck of the year http://www.motortrend.com/oftheyear/truck/...nner/index.html -

I have owned several Fords and GM Trucks and cars. Last year I purchased a Japanese designed Toyota Tundra and it's head and shoulders above ANYTHING I have previously owned. I am speaking from experience, this is one solid truck. It has all the power you want and it's stopping power is AMAZING with the front calibers having FOUR pistons on each side not to mention 14" calipers. Last week I went to to Ivanhoe Lake near Timmins and even with stop and go traffic on the QEW and 35 minutes to get through customs on the Rainbow bridge I averaged 19.39 mpg. Towing with this truck seems like the boat is not back there on acceleration and stopping. No more Detroit designed vehicles for me. Here's my work truck / tow vehicle. -
Northern Quebec has gone too far(Mont-Laurier)
Billy Bob replied to Mike the Pike's topic in General Discussion
About 15 years ago I had a VERY bad experience in Quebec and that providence will never see any of my hard earned American dollars again. HELLO ONTARIO where the folks treat you right My family and I have always been treated like Royalty in Ontario Because of this I have spent about 3K this year in Gods Country I have never had to wash my boat, however I have washed many lures behind my boat -
My Dipsy Divers out fish my downriggers 3-1 for walleye on Lake Erie because they get down and out to the side of the boat.

My Grumman only has one pump for the livewell and a separate pump for the bilge. The livewell pumps water from the transom of the boat and the livewell has a stand pipe in the center of the livewell. When the water level gets up to the stand pipe it just overflows into the stand pipe and is discharged out the back of the boat. Your boat should have a screen on the water intake pipe for the livewell. In not you may have debris in there. Both my pumps are now 23 years old and still ticking while I have more than once left them on when trailing the boat 80 miles home. I would of thought they would need replacing by now but so far so good. Bob

I have caught MANY smallies in pools. Just not my neighbor's pool
-
I gave up trying to add one

Gobies and sheephead couldn't put a dent in the zebra population. Once you have seen the MASSIVE amounts of zebra mussels first hand you will understand. EVERYTHING that the mussels can cling to has MULTIPLE LAYERS of zebra mussels. They are here to stay as are the gobies
-
Smallmouth fishing is easy on Lake Erie. Find structure and the bass will be there. I would start off in 15-18 foot and work deeper until you find some. Jigging with BLACK jigs will catch smallies or anything that kind of looks like a gobie will also work. Walleye fishing is another story on Lake Erie. The big schools (sometimes 2-3 miles long) are suspended somewhere out there. Talk to others who have been out of the port you are launching at or local bait store owner should have info on where to start. However, you will need specialized equipment like downriggers, planner boards, Dipsy Divers, Jet Divers, wire line or lead core to fish the water column properly. Good Luck, Bob
-
Since the gobies are mostly belly to the bottom I don't think gill netting would be productive. It would just harm even more sport fish like the smallmouth bass.

Catch an Release will never work in the Great Lake until the Canadian gill netter's are stopped

Time Share Cottage Ownership Question (NF sorta)
Billy Bob replied to steve_paul's topic in General Discussion
I built my own cottage (75 miles away) from the ground up on 2.5 acres of land overlooking Chautauqua Lake years ago. I sold it and that was the best thing I did. A cottage that you own is just a LOT of work when I could be hunting or fishing. It turned out to be a good investment after I sold it because of the money I made. However, adding up taxes, maintenance, insurance and utilities each year it is MUCH better renting a cottage and I am not tied down to any one area. Bob
