U.S. Economy and it's impact on Canada's Lodges
Billy Bob replied to tomO's topic in General Discussion
Years ago a group of us would go to Pennsylvania deer hunting. It was only about 100 mile trip and it gave us NY hunters another opening day to look forward to plus we could use rifles there. At that time we lived in a shotgun only area. For the first three or four years the out of state hunting license was $40 and we camped at a nearby campground that would charge us for a week even though we only stayed 3 days. On the last year we camped there we were going to make reservations for the following year. Only this time the campground owner doubled the rate and wanted extra $ for everyone over two persons per camp site. We balk and decided to talk it over. Then PA decided to double the non resident hunting license and we stopped going. Yes, we paid a premium by paying for a week of 3 campsites and only staying 3 days but by trying to rake us over the coals they lost the business of 8 hunters all together. What I should of done is wrote a letter to the campground explaining why we would no longer spend our hard earned cash in PA. You have to drawn the line somewhere -
U.S. Economy and it's impact on Canada's Lodges
Billy Bob replied to tomO's topic in General Discussion
We could no longer get the GST rebate as of April 2007. I asked for the paper work last May and June at the respective lodges I stayed at and neither warned me that is was no longer available. They just let me waste a few more dollars on postage. Months later the Canadian government sent me two letters saying the same thing, that the GST rebate has expired -
U.S. Economy and it's impact on Canada's Lodges

I did a French River trip with my two boys last week and next week the wife and I are off to a fly in trip out of Ivanhoe Lake. I will say it is costing MUCH more this year but I can't get the same experience here in NY so I am paying through the nose. I don't know if I will head north next year or not. Not only is the exchange rate no longer in our favor but we no longer get the GST taxes back. Canada should address this tax issue since we are NOT getting anything for the extra taxes. I believe this will come back an haunt the Canadian government with even less taxes paid to them because us Yankees will stay home. I don't mind paying a premium but I don't like being raked over the coals. Bob -
Most years about 2K including trips but this year it will be closer to 5K or a bit more. I can't take it with me and I am not getting any younger or healthier. Each trip has embedded memories that I will alway cherish. Bob

ALL black bucktail jigs always work on Erie and every other lake I have fished for smallies and walleye. But now tube jigs or anything that looks like gobies work also. Lake Erie is the smallmouth capital of the world. No other lake can compare in numbers and size. If you can't catch smallies on Lake Erie you should give up fishing

There is a free boat launch at Point Albino (east of the point)

I haven't fished some of these areas in years but I have had very good success with Point Abino. There are sailboats moored there (in the bay east of the point) and smallmouth like the shaded areas caused by the sailboats. Also there is a channel cut there that holds fish. Going east I would fish Windmill Point and east of that Waverly Shoals. Between Windmill and Waverly you have a lifetime of fishing spots to explore for smallies and walleyes not to mention galvanized pike. Good Luck, Bob

Here's my biggest perch (2.20 lbs) caught on Lake Erie.

Loosing my favorite Fishing hole to Ants!
Billy Bob replied to Anton Kanagasuntheri's topic in General Discussion
What you need is a ant eater. Do you want me to send you my sister in-law. She will eat ANYTHING and has the girth to prove it -

All lakes go through cycles on any species of fish they hold. You can have a couple banner years of crappie fishing because crappies had a good spawning conditions a few years ago. Then you get can get a few years of hardly any crappies. This holds true for bass, walleye (pickerel) pike, etc............. One thing I have learned over the years you can count on: It is never as good as they say it is and it is never as bad as they say it is. AND you can count that this year's bite will not be like last year's bite. It is always different in one way or the other. That's why it's called "fishing" Bob -
I have a friend that has more equipment than Dick's Sporting Goods and he has a five gallon bucket for each species he is targeting. He has MANY baits hanging on the inside of a FREE five gallon bucket. It doesn't look the greatest but it sure does work for him.

$430 fine while fishing on Scugog this weekend
Billy Bob replied to Want's topic in General Discussion
I can see a fine if you don't have the required safety equipment but $430 sounds a bit steep doesn't it. Our star Buffalo Bill running back just got a $150 fine for hit and run (hit a person not property). As far as not having your boating registration for proof of ownership, shouldn't the vessel be impounded ? ? ? It would have been if it was a car (at least here it would be). -
Trailer tires should be inflated to MAX no matter what the load is, that way you will not forget to add PSI when you do have a full load. But remember to check the tire pressure in the morning before driving on them. Most blow outs occur because of under inflated tires. Bob

It depends on what is more convenient to use. I like a bow mount foot control myself but others don't. BTW that 4 stroker should be trolling down a LOT more than 3 mph. Are you sure you trolling gauge is accurate ? ? ? I have a 50 hp 2 stroker that will troll down to 1.8 mph

There is a lot of good advice given here. Here's the easiest way to determine if you battery is holding a charge and should be replaced. Charge up the battery and then disconnect it from everything. The next morning take a volt reading. The battery should show at least 12.64 volts (8 hours later). If not replace said battery.

I am a outsider, meaning I don't reside in the area that most members live. However, each time I have asked for fishing advice for locations I have traveled to I have been taken care of VERY well. I just returned from a French River trip and had several responses to my post and a few PM messages that were VERY helpful. I even had some that PM me personal waypoints to fish. They know who they are and I THANK YOU and your waypoint #'s are safe with me. I am not good at the non fishing threads, I read some of them but mostly I don't respond. But if someone really needs advice on something I believe I am well qualified in I will post a response. There are MANY good people on here and if they wish to share their personal lives so be it. I am more a private person so I tend not to post in those threads. But I have been fishing for 50 years now and if I can share some of that knowledge with someone I will. Bob

GREAT job but I am concerned with using Thompson's Water Seal on PLYWOOD. I would of used sparring urethane instead but if the carpeting has a rubber backer it should hold up. If you need a depth finder for the front you can get some good deals on a used one surfing Ebay. I still have a flasher on the front because I prefer it in the weeds. Good Luck and have fun fishing, Bob

The first one is always the hardest. They will come easier now

Check to see what software version you have. The latest is 2.30v with 2.40v coming out in the next couple of weeks. Most units sold recently have 2.10v and should be updated to 2.30v so it will accept the newer 2.40v when it is released. Bob

I have a cousin like that. We were suppose to trade off driving when we went fishing but he ALWAYS came up with some lame excuse why the wife or son need his Chevy Trailblazer. Then when I drove he was always short in the pocket book when it came to splitting expenses. That got old after awhile. I wonder who he is sapping off now as I no longer take his mercy calls. BTW he once bragged he was pulling down much more than 100k 5 years ago while I am living on a disability retirement
