I would try hooking up to the trolling motor battery you already have....you might not experience any interference. You can test that on land or the next time out. Looking at the boat I'm not only trying to save you money but also space and unnecessary weight. If you have to get another battery a group 24 size deep cycle would be your best choice for what you want to do with it. Bob

I think Walleyes are the most finicky bite there is. Sometimes it just lure X that will work but other times lure X Y Z and even a few others can catch you a limit in a couple of hours. From reading your post I get the feeling you may be fishing from shore. If so you're very limited on what you can do. But if not and you are fishing from a boat drifting along weed edges with a 1/8 oz or 1/4 oz all black bucktail jig tipped with just a pinch (about 1 - 1.5") of nightcrawler usually gets the walleyes out of the weeds even when they not very aggressive. Just pop that jig in the sparse weed growth along the edges but watch out this usually gets some action from bass and pike and once in a while a muskie too. You now have your assignment so get going and report back. Bob

I have to disagree with over 20 years of experience with just regular 3M Silicone... I put some on where I screwed the transducer onto the transom that's now 24 years old (still holding), so I would say it's pretty good adhering to aluminum. I have use this stuff for MANY projects and it never lets me down. But if you must purchase special much more expensive stuff, GO FOR IT. P.S. the screws to the right of the drain plug are a little too close to the motor to mount a transducer IMHO.........you might very well get too much turbulence causing air bubbles to interfere with the transducer reading the bottom/fish. Good Luck and let us know how you made out. Bob

It's up to you if you want to drill hole in the hull or not but the best location would be about where the inner screw are holding on the "handles". Port or Starboard is your choice. I would use a piece of pressure treated lumber about 3" wide and that extends from the top of the transom to the bottom. Bolt above the water line and use your epoxy (I would use silicone chalking) to hold the bottom part of this piece of wood to the transom. With the bolting above the water line this will make it a strong install and the epoxy will hold it from shifting. Now make sure your transducer is JUST below the hull when you mount it giving you some adjustment to go either a bit more below the hull or just even with the hull (the mount should be grooved out for this purpose). ALSO VERY IMPORTANT ADJUSTMENT that none of the books tell you......to get readings a High Speeds you should tilt the transducer just slightly so the beam actually shoots forward toward the bow of the boat. This insurse water flows across the face of the transducer at high speeds. VERY IMPORTANT

Found out it's not polluting if you have a permit...........at least that's what they do here in NYS.......and you can sell your polluting credits to another company if by chance you can't use them all up by your company......GO FIGURE....

Anyone answering this would need a lot more info especially what sonar unit have to what sonar unit you are going to. Usually the age can determine that pretty quick but again what unit to you have and what are you replacing it with. Same pretty much with how much work it can be to run the transducer wire through. One thing you can do is cut the old transducer cable at the transducer end and tie it to the plug end of the new transducer cable and then pull it through while you are pulling out the old cable. Sound easy but you first have to see if the old cable is tied down along the way and of course cut all ties before pulling through.

Towing over capacity, Real World Experience Wanted
Billy Bob replied to Ziki's topic in General Discussion
Forget the idea that your boat out weighs your tow vehicle. SO WHAT......My Tundra weighs 5300 lbs and I can tow up to 10,800 lbs as listed by Toyota.....that's more than TWICE the weight of my tow vehicle. And if you can get yourself a truck to tow it for only a couple of hundred bucks that's road worthy send some down here. Again, for the VERY SHORT distance I wouldn't worry about it but if you want you can always add brakes to the boat trailer if it's not already equipped. -
Towing over capacity, Real World Experience Wanted

For the 5km trip I wouldn't worry about it or even give it a second thought and you will not have a problem at the launch ramp. Believe me I am definitely one that believes in a larger tow (I have a Toyota Tundra) vehicle then necessary but that's for long hauling. For what you are doing, relax and go fishing. When I was younger I owned a 1980 Ford Pinto Wagon and towed my boat from my cottage to the State Launch on Chautauqua Lake for YEARS but it also was only about 3-4 miles down the road and never had a problem at the launch ramp. BTW that Pinto was powered by a 4 cylinder 2.3 L engine........ Your going such a short distance your motor or tranny doesn't have a chance to over heat...... Now Go Catch a Fish, Bob -
Singing National Anthem every morning in NB schools
Billy Bob replied to holdfast's topic in General Discussion
I don't think our boarders are as open as your's but I have been told we have over 10 million ILLEGALS here already and more coming everyday and I think I may have a solution. If someone wants to be a American/Canadian good but first you have to come over legally and then you have to serve in the military for four years. Now you have just earned your citizenship...........what you think ? ? ? -
Singing National Anthem every morning in NB schools
Billy Bob replied to holdfast's topic in General Discussion
We said the Pledge of Allegiance every morning when I went to private and public school MANY moons ago. I continue to say it PROUDLY at every Fire Hall Meeting or event. We have a Country Radio Station here that has someone different sing the National Anthem EVERY day at noon.........and I will take offense with anyone who has a problem with that.... Bob -
I use 30# test Power Pro ONLY on my Dipsy rods because of the heavy pull the Dipsy Divers have. Everything else is mono and light at that. For walleye I use 4 or 6# test and I can't remember the last time I lost a fish because I was using light line. For crappies I use 2 - 4# test mono but I have lost a couple LARGE crappies trying to lift them into the boat with 2# test line. Now I will lip them when using that light of line..... Good Luck Fishing, Bob
-
I have to ask.........why in the world are you using 30# test on a light spinning outfit. I pity you when you get a snag and have to break off.
-
I don't understand.......you replace the bearing 1 - 2 years without replacing the race.....They are sold in a set, at least every time I purchased them.

Save yourself some money on the leak stop stuff........I have never seen the sealant work.

I just take mine up to the do it yourself car wash and power wash the he!! out of it. Works GREAT but don't use the soap mode. Did that the fist time and had to keep rinsing the heck out of it to get it all out. Spent more money rinsing than washing.... Just turn on your bilge pump when you start...... Bob

You're stuck between a rock and hard place when it comes to A/C........short story........ a friend had his go and took it in have checked out. They quoted him $1000 for a condenser. He talked to a fellow firefighter after one of our meetings and Jesse said yes he could do it. He paid Jesse $50 for labor and another $150 for the part and now he's enjoying A/C again...... I have charged many A/C units myself and saved myself and several friends some money. Have you at least tried this before spending TONS of money on it. BTW......NO I would not spend that kind of money on A/C on a 7 year old car unless I lived in the south where I REALLY need A/C. Good Luck, Bob

TIGER MUSKY and Pike in Kawartha Lakes!! - Pics
Billy Bob replied to Slayingm's topic in General Discussion
You want to keep the pike population down............have local pike tournaments where you want them controlled. This could be a win, win for the area as it will bring in money to the local economy and everyone is having fun fishing. -

I know for years the Lund was the best aluminum fishing boat on the market. Don't know now that Brunswick took them over.........around here the Lunds are now package with Mercs.....don't know if you can order them separate. Brobeil Marine use to carry them but he's a OMC and Yamaha dealer so he had to give up the Lund boat line.

For me all the magazines are just rehashing over old stuff..........not much more can be said about a fish after all these years. At one time I use to subscribe to In-Fishermen and still have many back issues. Now I don't even pick one up to look at when I pass the magazine rack in a store. I also find most fishing shows BORING as the market is watered down with it, especially now that most shows are just a info commercial........

As far as the cold start problem there are a couple things that play into that. Of course priming the fuel line by squeezing the bulb helps but not always necessary. If the boat was just launched then YES it will help but it the boat is left in the water not so much. That motor should have a electronic primer by pushing in the key while starting. This helps a LOT and the throttle should be pulled up between half and three quarters while pushing the key in and turning it. Once started push the key in one or two more times to get some extra gas into the cylinders while it's cold. And the final thing that can make a difference is what angle the engine is at when your starting it up. I noticed on my 1985 VRO 50 hp Johnson that if the motor is trimmed ALL the way down it makes it harder to start, but if it trimmed up at least 3/4 it starts right up.
