Thursday I received a message from Fishnsled asking if Cliff and/or I would like to join him for the closer. Hmmm, join a great guy like Will for a day on the water, a guy that we always have a great time with and the same guy that has facilitated getting 8 musky in his boat over the two previous weekends..tough question, required less than .5 of a second to decide! Cliff and I had a very busy schedule over the next 2 days, even though I wanted to go I wasn't sure it was possible. Quick discussion and although Cliff could not go, he helped arrange things so that I could. Even though the forecast was for rain and winds, I couldn't wait for Saturday! Saturday my alarm was set for 4:35am but as often happens before a fishing trip, I was already awake. Loaded up the car with my meager musky offerings, extras layers of clothes, coffee and managed not to arrive too early at Will's place. After the day Cliff and I had steelheading on Friday, I wasn't really expecting to catch anything but knew I was going to have a great time. Rain, some fog and a few deer sightings later, the boat was launched right on time. Soon after we started, Will saw the first follow of the day, moments later, Will was landing the first of the day...... Quick photo and release and we started working the area again. 10 minutes later, I was lucky enough to be landing the second fish of the day...... Another quick photo and release. 2 fish and we had been on the water less than an hour, this left us wondering. Was this going to be one of those days? The ones where you land a fish right away and then nothing for the rest of the day...or a sign of better things to come?? Only one way to answer that....keep fishing! We received our answer shortly after.... Will and I left the water at 2:30 (I needed to get back and to TFS event) after boating 7 musky. Will successfully landed 5, biggest for the day was 42" and I was fortunate enough to manage 2, with one being my new PB at 43". These are all that I have on my camera.... Will, thank you again for yet another great day with you on the water. You said that we were going to get me a new PB Musky and as always, you did not disappoint. Thanks again Will!! Looking forward to the next rainy day trip!

An Evening with the Toronto Fire Service Pipes and Drums - NF
Bly replied to Bly's topic in General Discussion
But of course I did.... You'll have to ask him if he followed the dress code though..... -
Back in August, Cliff was asked by his best friend, Adrian, a drum sargeant, if he'd be interested in lending a hand to the Toronto Fire Service Pipes and Drums Fall Fling. After reading further in this post, you'll understand why there was no question that he'd be proud to take part. The Fall Fling was put on to raise money for the group's planned trip to Holland in 2010 to be present, perform, and represent Toronto at the 65th Anniversary of VE day. He was asked to play in a smaller group within the larger group called "Fire in the Clan", that played a combination of Scottish and Irish favourites, both traditional and current in style. The Toronto Fire Services Pipes and Drums was established in 1998. The band was conceived by a firefighter as a traditional means of representing the Fire Service. The band comprises mostly of Toronto firefighters from all divisions who proudly wear the Toronto Fire Services Tartan. The band regularly attends recruit graduations, promotional presentations, award ceremonies, department funerals (sadly they have attended 9 funerals this year of thier bretheran) and any other fire fighting related functions, as well as parades and community events. More recently, they represented the TFS internationally at the 2008 IAFF Fallen Firefighter Memorial in Colorado Springs, and competed in the Orillian Highland Games, finshing second only to the Ontario Fire Service Pipes and Drums. The Fall Fling was held at the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 258 on Saturday November 15th, beginning at 7pm. After having dinner, we were treated to many hours of entertainment by some very talented people. The Pipes and Drums group played throughout the evening, and was filled in with performances by members on the piano, Irish whistle, Highland dancing, clogging, shuffle pipes, drums, other performances, and of course Fire in the Clan. Fire in the Clan was comprised of guitarists, drums, accordian and singers, all members of the larger band, many of whom are either with the TFS or retired from service. Cliff's role was to fill in the sound with bass guitar and vocals. Back in September, Fire in the Clan began rehearsing for the big night. It wasn't until about a month ago that it was brought up that in order for Cliff to take part (they made sure he was totally committed to the event), that he'd have to wear a kilt. I of course was thrilled , Cliff was a little unsure. So be prepared when seeing the following pictures of the evening!!! The evening also included a very heartfelt tribute to Retired Captain Ian Cochrane who recently passed. Toronto Fire 1959-1994. Ian holds a very special place in the heart of Adrian and many of our friends. Pipe Major, Gary Ford for Ontario Fire Service Pipes and Drums presenting a gift to Toronto Fire Chief William Stewart Some pictures of the TFS Pipes and Drums in action. Pictures of some of the entertainment. Fire in the Clan Pics and Video <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i211.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid211.photobucket.com/albums/bb179/blyght/TFS%20Pipes%20and%20Drums%202008/DSCN8330.flv"> Was a great night with many friends and lots of laughs and an added bonus...hearing Cliff play some music I love WHILE wearing a kilt!!! Thanks for taking the time to read this, hope it wasn't too long or boring. If you are interested in a few other videos of the TFS, you can check out these youtube links.
