  1. Thanks guys. Don't think i have room to go 24 inches but I will go check right now. Cannon likely has a 17 or 18 inch length as well. Good to hear the Berts risers work on the Cannon tracks
  2. I always use the launch off Balsam lake drive where the canal from Mitchell enters. Its not the greatest, but its free. A paved launch on that side of the lake is available at the provincial park. Muskies? The usual has always worked for me...drop offs, weed edges etc
  3. Have not put any rod holders on the new boat yet, but am starting to consider it. Was going to do rails, but really like the flexibility a track gives. There is only a little room towards the back where I could mount tracks. My question is, if I put a 17 inch track would I be able to put 2 rod holders on that (plan is to use a mounting bracket and then some down easters)? Is a 12 inch track big enough to put 2 mounts and then 2 rod holders? Based on the space I have I cant really go bigger than 17, but if a 12 would work I would consider doing that. I am a very low tech fisherman, so don't feel the need to go bigger in case I want to add other accessories. I have fished my whole life with no accessories. These rod holders will be a first (and likely last!).
  4. nice multi species day!
  5. wow you can test out some of Brian's big musky baits right out the front door
  6. wow $10? I'll give you 15 (it has my name on it after all). Actually the Rizzo is after Frank Rizzo...R I Z Z O of jerky boys fame
  7. haha...did stop once to cast and had lots of smallies follow my sledge but no takers. Couldn't cast too long because my buddy just had a surgery and was still tender
  8. hey thanks outlaw. Didn't see your advice until now....but we did end our day doing exactly that. We only spent maybe half an hour west of belle river, but I did manage to lose a 44 incher (or so) over there. Rest of the day was spent east of belle river
  9. Well that's a big body of water! We decided to launch out of Belle River based on Lew's advice. If you read my other post I was fishing for St Clair musky for the first time, and trying to get a friend his first ever. Looked at a map and saw a shallow point stretching out not too far from the launch so we decided to try over there. Never having been there, I decided to troll over to see if we could find any structure...not really. Now I like to troll fast. I tied on a shallow raider in firetiger flavour for my buddy and started to troll at a healthy pace (6.5 to 7 mph). Couldn't have been in the water 15 seconds when the rod buckles (it will do that at 6.5 mph!). What a start to the day. Just a little guy at around 32 inches but when its your first its a giant! We eventually found a weedy hump, and my buddy found out what a real musky looks like! Nailed this 46 incher and he was shaking the rest of the day I finally got in on the action with a 36 and a 44 (or so) that we lost at boatside. Had one more rip that didn't hook up. We have a new musky addict in the fold!
  10. ...oh and remember, one of those waypoints is actually a rock, not a musky location. I'm too electronically challenged to label them. Hope you don't find that one (its on Head Lake in case you forgot)
  11. hahah I see your luck is as good as mine! Maybe you need a bigger bait. Glad to see you are getting out at least
  12. yes going to troll. Taking a guy out who has never caught a musky, and is a little tender because he just had his large intestine removed a couple weeks ago. Figured go for a nice boat ride and if I can get him his first musky it would make his day.
  13. thanks lew. one vote for belle river means as it stands now I'll head in that direction. Pain in the butt to learn new water, especially one that big, but will be satisfying if I can can find one willing combatant. The boat is full of gas so I'm ready to put on a few kms!
  14. fantastic day! Congrats on your first she's a beauty looking fish. The next one won't take as long
  15. just hope you don't find any pike in there
  16. Finally going to try St Clair for musky tomorrow, but don't have a clue where to start. Was either going to launch somewhere at the mouth of belle river or somewhere at the mouth of the thames. Then I was going to drive around randomly hoping to fluke into a fish! If someone wants to offer up a good place to launch or any other info it would be appreciated.
  17. hahaha Jimmy Buffett. Congrats on the success
  18. wow what a gorgeous fish! very nice Lew
  19. uh oh....the creek is about 20 feet wide and consistent depth all across.
  20. So I tossed the minnow trap with some bread into a local creek that I know is loaded with chubs and golden shiners. No luck. Fish swimming all around but nobody went in. What to put in there to entice a few of them?
  21. gorgeous fish! Probably the best looking fish I ever caught was a similar sized tiger. Was out fishing with Aaron (CoolB) if anyone remembers him. Which lake did you get the tiger on?
  22. awesome report! Thanks for sharing. That 47 looks like a real beauty, nice thick fish
  23. I once hit someone in the face with a sucker. There is nothing more insulting than being slapped with a coarse fish.
