Finally got up to the cottage after 7 months of non-use and thought I'd test out the gas (Propane) fireplace. The pilot reluctantly lit and I was able to get fireplace going, but after about 10 seconds it would make a "click" noise and then shut itself off, including the pilot. This happened repeatedly until I finally gave up. Tank outside said it was still 40% full. Any thoughts?

...ah now I understand...he was in the bawdy house getting greased up to fit into those skinny pants...sounds like a legit appointment to me (or I guess he could have seen a tailor...but they usually aren't as cute)

Ignatieff Just Resigned as Leader of the Liberals NF
Rizzo replied to bigbuck's topic in General Discussion
can't believe he didn't resign last night during his defeat speech...said he'd do whatever the party wanted him to do...I guess they wanted him to get lost in a hurry (can hardly blame them, can't believe he and Dion are the best that party can come up with. Embarrassing) -
in Canada you go home and call yourself clumsy, in the U.S. you definitely sue for something like that!

better call Jim Saric and get him a rod or 3, he was waving around a "puny" 9 footer at the Odyssey a few weeks back, will be jealous of a 9'6"

Anybody know where i can find a 6" Jitterbug in the GTA?
Rizzo replied to BucktownAngler's topic in General Discussion
if you can't find it at least there are lots of other big topwaters to choose from! I haven't personally ever seen one at LB's, JB's, or BPS -
now that you're in a good mood, wanna buy a 15 hp 1989 merc?
-
Roy was right (never thought I'd say those words ). Its actually a B not an 8, the motor is a 1989 based on the serial number (and it matches photos of other 89's I've googled)

There's a stream that runs from Horseshoe to First Lake, not sure if it would be good for minnows. First Lake is a nice little spot if you're looking for some largemouth. Has a free ramp too

If you go into the marina they will give you a map and mark the shoal (at least they did for me a couple of years ago). I think there are rumours of lake trout also being present (apparently there are some deep areas). Also, that restaurant on the corner of 141/69 has a great steak sandwich, you can boat right up to it, called the Heron I think (the restaurant, not the sandwich)
-
that's why you get the big bucks Roy! Looking at it in my dimly lit garage probably pretty easy to mistake a B for an 8! Thanks again, when I wipe the sleep out of my eyes I'll go have another peek.

nuts...looked at the link Roy provided and the serial number which starts 083 doesn't seem to show up in the chart. Did google pictures of various merc motors and it doesn't look like an '83, looks like an 89...at least the cowling does!

...in other words...he's a moron. Thanks Roy

that thing is a football! nice fish

I have a 15 hp 2 stroke mercury where the serial number starts with 83....so I assume this is a 1983 engine. Someone I spoke to (possibly a moron) told me mercury did not make 15's until later in the 80's. The last 2 digits are 89, he seemed to think this was more likely. Is this guy full of it? The reason it matters is I'm about to sell it and would like to accurately reflect the age. The good news is she just fired up on with no problem, pee'd like a racehorse, and a screw that I thought was stripped was actually just too short. Got a longer screw and now the lower unit is sealed up tight...if I hadn't already bought a newer motor last week (2006) I would be keeping it!

Thanks for the info. Pretty sure I just transferred my plates from the boat motor and trailer I sold. Sounds like I pay the tax on the boat/motor via the letter, then contact Ministry of transport to make sure the trailer is registered in my name and taxes paid on it. Man I'm glad I didn't have a cheque with me at work! I had already filled out the form with the full value on it including the trailer...OFC saves the day. I'll split the value up, probably call the trailer 1500.00 and the boat is the rest.

Hi Peter, We have a cottage practically across the road from Horseshoe and regularly visit the marina for ice creams with the kids, but I've only ever fished there once. We caught lots of smallmouth and had some surprisingly big pike (close to 40 inches I'd guess) follow back to the boat. There is a really nasty shoal on that lake you will want to learn about, pretty sure its called "Hens and chicks" extends WAAYYY further out than you would expect. Enjoy your summer and if you see 4 crazy boys smeared in ice cream say hello.

forget the water levels, your bigger concern will be black flies at that time of year. I have a "no muskokas until June" policy for that reason...and I have a cottage up there!

same here. Just got my letter as well. When I registered my "new" boat almost 3 years ago I went with bill of sale and cheque in hand to pay the tax at the same time. The lady at the counter told me I could not pay her, I would get an invoice in the mail but it might take a couple of years...she was right, finally got it yesterday! Called the number to tell them I didn't know where I put the bill of sale, could they just assess me "book value" and I would be happy to pay it. Lady on phone told me just to write an explanation letter, indicate price I paid, and send a cheque. So my question is, do I pay just on the boat/motor or do I consider the value of the trailer as well? Although there are lots of sneaky ways to cheat the tax man on this (some mentioned in this thread!), I would like to be honest about it (call me a dying breed)!

Got a letter for proof of taxes paid on OLD boat!!!

Unless you paid cash why would you not have Visa or Bank records? These things generally aren't that hard to get copies of. If you did pay cash they would have a copy of it at the border I would think. Good luck! -
I think a 10 foot leader couldn't sink a sledge...them things are bobbers!

How about something a little different? I have a Chevy Avalanche. Look great, lots of seating room, plenty of power to tow your boat PLUS you've got the box in the back to store all your stuff. When necessary you can fold the back bench down to get a full size box. Has a big expensive to fill gas tank but will drop down automatically from 6 to 4 cylinder when not under heavy load...nice feature that saves gas

For musky fishing I have a couple of big rubbermaid bins with holes drilled around the perimeter that I can hang baits off, plus a bar hanging across the centre for hanging more baits. Also have a whole bunch more loose baits lying in the attic. When I go fishing I decide for the mostpart what type of fishing I expect to be doing that day - ie trolling deep crankbaits? casting jerkbaits?. I'll then fill the box up 75% what I expect is the pattern for the day, and the other 25% is in case I guessed wrong!

tape the old one back together, seal up the edges with some gum, should hold most of the gas in.
