  1. Thanks a lot Sherrif and Anders!! I love this board and the people!
  2. I'm thinking of a career change and GIS sounds really interesting. I know a few of you have taken GIS programs and work in the field. If I could get some responses from you guys I would really appreciate it. Which college did you take your program at and would you recommend it? Did you have trouble finding jobs after graduating? What types of jobs are you able to get? Have any of you completed the program through online courses? Thanks in advance! Dave.
  3. Just came back from Mountsberg. One of the slowest days yet. Only got into one myself. The weeds are super thick in there right now. Hard to get a cast in without coming back with salad.
  4. Hello Everyone. Does anyone know the Owen Sound area that can help me out? I will be there for a night for work and was hoping to wet a line after work. I'll go for anything. I steelhead but main in the east and have never ventured to the Georgian bay tribs. Sydenham still holding some? Or is there a small lake nearby where I can launch the tube for a couple of hours for pike or walleye? Any tips and suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!
  5. Hey Mike. Thank you thank you for the report. You just made my night!
  6. Amazing report Mike. Too bad about the float tubes. Similar thing happened to me with the exact same tube. Luckily I was able to patch it up after 2 hours of gluing and salvaged my day. I took mine back to BPS and they gave me a full creit even though it was 3 years old. I'm sure your buddy won't have any problems.
  7. I agree with you Paulus. I only use chinny roe as well. Works just as well.
  8. Throw my name in the draw! Dave
  9. My advice is make sure you have a helmet. Dont want to have a serious head injury first time out. Position your skis into a V shape and put pressure on your right leg to turn left. I snowboard now but thats what I remember when I used to ski.
  10. Mike, Don't know the science of it, but it does seem to help applying the night before. Especially for the line.
  11. I've used vasaline or chapstick with good success. Just apply the night before to let it soak in. If applied just before going out, it doesn't work as well.
  12. That's fantastic. I have a 10 1/2 month old daughter and I can't wait to take her fishing. Thanks for sharing.
  13. Lots of good makes and models out there. Probably one of the most popular is the Islander. I own and use one. Canadian made, light and super tough with really tight tolerance. Try checking out www.floatfishing.net. lot of guys dumping used equipment.
  14. Hey Scott. Bruce here. Good for you. Good luck in your new job
  15. Hold the fish out when taking a picture and the weight jumps to 17lbs.
  16. Same with Black. I tend to catch a lot more males with black jigs and buggers.
  17. Question for you guys out there who fish jigs. Have you ever noticed that a large majority of fish that hit pink jigs are male steelhead and majority of fish off white jigs are female?? This is a pattern that I have been noticing for the last few years. Maybe its just a weird coincidence.
  18. Ever tried tinsel jigs? Or mylar tubing?
  19. Hey Kemper. Yup. drove across the river and parked on the side of the road. We had to go through some really thick bush and cross the tracks. I got talking with another angler at the fly shop and we decided to venture out together. I could tell he was getting annoyed with my bear bell but I didn't care. Yeah, no way I was going myself. I'm a city boy myself. Got two pretty bows on a size 4 stone fly pattern. Also saw a handful of kings pushing their way up.
  20. Hey Kemper. I fished the birkenhead as well. The section I was fishing had bear tracks all over the place. I was ringing my bear bell like crazy! Did the Whistler fly shop recommend that river?
  21. I use chapstick and the key is to apply the night before to let it soak in. If you do it a few hours before fishing, it tends to wear off quicker.
  22. Another tip I once heard is to put on anti persperant on your feet to prevent them from sweating. Wet feet = cold feet.
  23. I'll second the BPS hunting socks. They are good with lots of cushion. I still do get the cold feet but not as quick as I used to. Other tricks I'm going to try this year: Poly. socks, merino wool then neoprene socks. May be too much bulk but we'll see. Poly socks, merino wool socks then metalic insoles I see being sold at CT. The idea is the shinny layer will reflect the heat back to your feet. If these don't work, back to the foot warmers.
  24. Currently using 8lb raven in hi vis pink but I just ordered some signlon V. I just can't get used to the shot line.
  25. Blue walleye?? http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http...l%3Den%26sa%3DX
