  1. Glad you found something.
  2. I Agree with GDC. Probably chronomids. They will hatch even in the winter. Break out the vise and the size 22 hook.
  3. I have been eyeing the rapid river wading jacket for quite a while but could not find it on the website. I called and they are discontinuing it along with the wicked tough waders which really is a shame.
  4. I use the Bare Kodiak wading jacket. The jacket is bomb proof unlike their waders. I believe Le barons sells bare products so they may carry the jacket. The run about $300. I got mine at kingsway sports in guelph but I know Al flaherty's in west toronto carry them. But they are probably the most unfriendly sales people in TO. Tightlines in pickering also carry bare. He should be able to order the jacket in for you if he doesn't have it in stock. I think BPS has their own brand of jackets and they carry them at the vaughn store. From what I remember it was not that expensive. They also carry simms jackets. Wilson's on queen also carry wading jackets. They have simms, orvis and patagonia. Wilson's will also price match if some other store sells for cheaper. I like dealing with them. If your on a budget any good waterproof jacket will do. Wading jacket have neat features such as larger pockets and neoprene cuffs but its something you can do without. Most important is to stay dry and warm.
  5. I usually buy by feathers at my local tackle shop or craft store but a coworker mentioned that her father hunts turkey and pheasants deer....pretty much what ever moves. I asked her for some turkey feathers and pheasant tails. Do any of you guys harvest your own material? My main question is do I have to cure them in some way to get rid of the germs/bacteria? If so, how? Also, is maribou from a turkey? Thanks.
  6. Buyers stepped up the plate today. Short term bottom?? hmmm..... lets see if the momentum continues tomorrow.
  7. I have had numerous problems with Bare breathable waders. The only good side was that their customer service was fantastic. Every leak, I received a brand new pair of waders. But after the 6th pair I decided it was time to try something new. I currently own two pairs of breathables and I love both of them and no leak issues so far. I have simms G3. They fit me great, soft supple feel to them and no leak issues. I can't comment on the customer service yet and hopefully will not for a long time. Second pair are LL Bean's wicked tough gortex waders. A little stiffer than the G3s but absolutely no leak issues with these as well. I have talked to people who also own these waders and they said they are bomb proof. The best part is LL bean will take them back no questions ask with any problem you have with them. They will even ship you a pair in advance of you sending back the old pair. My only complaint about them is the cuff is little tight and hard to pull over your wading boots. The simms use neoprene which is stretchy. I don't think you can go wrong with either. The LL beans retail for $299 and the simms I believe are about the same price. If you go for the simms, buy them at wilson's on queen. they will beat BPS's price by a couple of bucks. I don't think you can go wrong with either.
  8. PM'ed you JDMLS
  9. Go defensive. Stocks like kraft, Protor and gamble, McDonalds, Walmart drug stocks. Can't go wrong in this environment. You could always invest in Gold as well. Only thing that was green on my screen today. With the bailout out the window the outlook looks pretty bleak. In situations like this, money managers typically put their cash in Gold. If you decide to go bargain shopping, look for signs of a bottom. Today wasn't it. A good sign is when you have a really down day but by close the markets have rebounded and close up or not down that much. If you look at charts, it is called a hammer. Good luck.
  10. I started out with a fly rod as well way back when. It worked fine for me.
  11. Hey JDMLS, You can repair your broken rod as long as its not part of the female or male piece. Just stick another piece of a graphite rod inside with some flex epoxy. Then wrap the outside like you would a guide with thread and epoxy the outside. I have done that with some old spinning rods and they are still holding up after 3 years of use. I had enough confidence in its strength to use a repaired rod as my primary on fishing camping trip. Try it out. Dave.
  12. Check out the Gloomis sale for a new rod. Closing out sale next Saturday, September 20th and Sunday, September 21st. Hours 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.both days at Loomis Canada in Mount Hope. Frontier rods, Loomis rods, float rods, spinning rods, bass rods. Loomis Hats, jackets and T-shirts.
  13. cork and reel seat is the easy part. The fun begins with the line wrapping! My advice is take your time and don't be afraid to redo some wraps before you epoxy. Post some pics when you can. Good luck
  14. Another question. How do the bass get in there? Are they stocked? If so then I would imagine it is private property
  15. I'm trying to locate some small ponds that may hold fish by looking at mapquest satelite images. I've found several that are just off hwys and close to my house but they always have someone residing on them. Is there their pond/property or can anyone access the pond? I can understand if the pond is really tiny and right in the guys backyard but some of the ponds are like small lakes.
  16. My friends were just there yesterday. Use baits that targets bass more such as a plastic worm or senko. If you chuck spinnerbaits all day, the pike won't give the bass a chance to eat it.
  17. Dry out the eggs on paper towels or a window screen until they are tacky. Then put them in ziplock bags, take out the air and freeze. Unfortunately, the eggs don't do well if you refreeze them. Some will start to pop so put enough in a bag for a single day use.
  18. Cliff is right. But don't be afraid to go out and fish during moderate flood conditions. The fishing can be outstanding with very little people. Just drift anywhere where the flow is slower than the main flow. Just be careful not to fall in.
  19. Hello. I will spending this Sunday on Cameron lake doing some boating, tubing and hopefully a little fishing! I have never fished this lake before and looking for any advice as to where to go and what to use. Looking for anything besides panfish. I can always find those! I will have my two nephews with me and would like to get them into something bigger than a rock bass. Thanks in advance!
  20. I've fished it a few times and its always on the Thanksgiving weekend. Pinks still around at that time but not in huge numbers. Mostly Chinooks and the odd bow.
  21. Slip float with a live leech. The only problem I find with leeches is you lose the leech after every fish. I've been using gulp leeches lately and have had pretty good success with them. Plus they stay on the hook.
  22. My three nephews were in town on the weekend and wanted to do some fishing. With not a lot of time, we decided to head over to Frenchman's bay for a couple of hours to wet a line. I set up the kids with a float and worm. One of them just got a Rocket Fishing Rod which is junk. The line kept tangling inside the barrel and the float does not go much further than 15 feet. So for anyone that is thinking of purchasing it, I would suggest going with a normal rod and reel push button combo. We weren't having much luck with the worm so I decided to throw mine in with a few pieces of corn. I just casted it and forgot about it. Within 20 minutes, my reel is bouncing and screaming. Good think I hooked the reel on the fence otherwise it was have been in the lake. After a 5 minute battle this guy comes in. We ended up going 2 for 3. One was lost right at shore. Nephew got too excited. Thanks Bly for the help.
  23. mind if I ask where you got it and for how much?
  24. I have my 6 and 9 year old nephews visiting me and they wanted to go fishing for a couple of hours. any place close to the pickering area where they can easily catch some panfish and possibly a bigger one? Don't want to go too far. maybe 30 mins or so. Thanks!
  25. Another thing to consider when purchasing waders is to look into the warranty. My first higher end waders were the Bare Blackwaters. Very comfortable waders but they leaked every year. Bare has a lifetime warranty so I would return them every year and get a brand new pair. Some COs only have one year. All waders will leak eventually so find a brand that will cover the repairs or replace. I've said it before in this thread and I'll say it again. Look into purchasing from LL bean. They have an amazing warranty policy. I also own simms g3 and I believe they have lifetime warranty as well. Haven't had to send them back yet so I don't know what their customer service is like.
