The best smallie pattern up there is to "bottle fish". Look for the plastic bottles marking rocks and throw tubes, slug-gos or small spinnerbaits. The walleye pattern can be tough. Although the deep reefs are always crowded, we've been doing very well with jig-minnows or jig-worms around deeper weed edges. Most don't correlate weeds and walleyes but they sure work well for me. Get a map of the water.

Yesterday was a tough day. My nephew is an engineering major at Virginia Tech. Our family had a rough couple of hours yesterday. Communication was virtually shut off for some time. We have counted our blessings. He's safe.

A friend of mine is considering Lady Evelyn Lake for a summer trip. Does anyone have any comments on the fishing up there? What's the most common fish? I appreciate any help.

TJ, Protecting YOUR kids? Last time I was with them, I was the one that needed protected. As an aside, you're right on the money. Imagine these headlines "Jailguard charged with sexually assaulting female inmates" or "Man facing death penalty for murdering witnesses' father" Not only were my kids unfortunately exposed to those stories, they got the added morsel of their dad being identified as the attorney for these people. Kids at school aren't shy about commenting on what kind of work I do and its been fun trying to explain it to the kids. The media is out of control and I'm dealing with these issues every day. The real problem is, with the internet, news shows and tv dramas, sex and violence and the erosion of privacy is going to become a way of life.

My hottest bait on Nipissing the last two years has been an orange firetiger shallow invader. Had to buy alot of replacement tails. Suick and Eagle Tails take second and third.
