  1. Next time we go I'll try to get a video of what I called the 'Perch power up.' Turned on the flasher, nothing except the bottom, dropped my jig down and it was like the bottom was starting to redline. One straight red bar shooting up to where me jig was. I couldn't stop laughing when I saw it.
  2. I don't blame you, I would take the same decision, but as an overall question I would take hockey because as I once told my buddy 'If all the other anglers go on strike or get locked out, its more fish for me.' And as for the fish going on strike........ well I've had that happen more then once when I go out.
  3. Yep its offical, I'm bad luck for you guys. Great job on slaying the splake. If you're itching for lakers, let me know if one of these weekends you want to meet up around Haliburton.
  4. Chris is young and sadly I look like I'm a lot younger then I actually am (I get ID'd all the time at the LCBO) the officer probably thought he knew better then these two young 'punk kids' and could intimidate us into leaving. I was going to give him a perch and wish him a merry christmas and ask him to leave us be. Whatever, it was still a fun day.
  5. I have learned through my youth, hanging out with not exactly the best crowd that if the police can't nab you for what they would like to, they are fairly good at finding something to drum up or make up. I'm not insulting all police officers as I have met a bunch of nie ones and I have 3 cousins in the force but I've found that if the police want to exhert their authority or get you to start/stop doing something they can be very prusuasive. As Chris said, there will be many more days to fish that lake.
  6. Its a good point. The blue ice report was showing a dozen or so people on Cooks today. 3.5-4 inches of ice. I think I'll wait till the permanent huts go out.
  7. Good luck. You can do it. 2 years ago I dropped about 40 pounds and the first couple of months was the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life, but now having succeeded I would do it all again in a heartbeat. Although everyone has their own needs and wants one thing everyone needs to be successful is support. We're all rooting for you.
  8. Sometimes the anticipation makes catching fish that much more enjoyable. Great report.
  9. Oh yeah, forgot about that. Next time we get out we'll have to take a few more pics.

  10. Pretty sure I'd have to sell my car to get it, but I want it.
  11. It was a little more of a good faith thing as we could see he wasn't really backing down. At first we thought it was just an angry resident trying to kick us off 'Their lake' (not the first time I've had that happen) so we kept our words to ourself and the gentleman started coming over. We talked to him for a bit and were very polite as he told us two of the locals had called to police because they were concerned about the thin ice. We explained that we both had float coats, had been doing ice checks and were keeping an eye open for fault lines. When he started asking if he had ever fallen in before, if we were keeping anything and if I had my licence (all of which were in order) I could see he was looking for something to nab us on or to have the upper hand. It was getting dark anyways so we politly removed ourself from the lake to prevent further hassle. Really bugs me sometimes but what can you do?
  12. Woah. Crazy new format. No time for Christopher K and I to take photos. We were slaying the perch.

  13. You should enter that photo in the funny ice fishing photo contest. Its pretty good.
  14. Always look forward to fishing with you and Joey. It was nice to meet the other Jeremy as well. Thanks for all the hospitality and letting me borrow some gear when I left my taclebox in the car . I always find ice fishing is that much more enjoyable if you have good company. Definatly makes the drive worthwhile. My first walleye through the ice didn't hurt either. The best part was that my grandfather came for a visit the next day so I was able to fry it up as a pre-course appitizer for him. He loves eating fish almost as much as he enjoys fishing. Again, great to see you guys again.
  15. Chad got some good video, I'm actually not sure how many pics of fish we got. I'll let him or Joey start the thread and then I'll add to it.

  16. Oh man, great fishing. Oh and the GULP sponsorship check is in the mail.
  17. Ha ha I wasn't planning on it but I think I could duck out for a few hours. Want to meet up and see if its safe to try and bring in some pike? Edit: Whoops, nevermind. The lake is unsafe and the conservation area is closed. Ah well. Maybe in a week or two.
  18. Does anyone know if Island Lake in Orangeville is locked up?
  19. Changed my mind. If I had one lure it would be whatever Chad lends me. Its the only way I can catch walleye.
  20. Micro tube with a minnow head. The panfish love it and even some of the sport fish will hit it if you convince them.
  21. My first ever non- perch through the ice. If I wasn't hooked on ice fishing then I sure am now. Watching on my flasher I had to coax this pike into biting for about an hour. I was able to bring it from the bottom of the lake to about 5 feet from the surface but the bugger would never hit....... until I got a phone call or tried to eat lunch and fish at the same time causing me to lose him twice. The third strike though was one of the coolest things I had ever seen. Watching my sonar I see my lure is about 2 feet above him, I pause in between jigging and watch as he rockets for it full speed. So cool to see happen. Wasn't expecting to catch a pike, much less on a micro grub with a minnow head so I had to remove the hook with my bare hands (new apreciation for those guys who put their heads in the lions mouth). A better pic because there is nothing to refrence the size against so I can tell my buddies its 3 pounds. On a side note, I still have no idea how to catch crappie..............
  22. Small Lakes in Huntsville are totally locked up I'd say 5-6 inches of ice. I haven't tried Lake Vernon nor do I know the area well enough to do so. The only lake in my area is Island Lake and I'm not even going to bother making the drive for another week or so.
  23. Thanks guys. I do have a decent axe. I'll probably just bring that with me.
