  1. Betcha it was a nice big white sucker or walleye in that pikes belly.
  2. Anything in season that bites. We arn't too picky. Would just be nice to get out to camp once more and wet the lines again.
  3. So, my cousin and I are really excited to go fall/winter (depending on who you ask and where we go) camping tomorrow. I was looking into a few places, my co-worker told me that Silent Lake was year round but it only has Lake Trout and small bass. Looking online I did a quick serch for winter camping and fishing and the best possible option looks like Ferris on the Trent river. The only thing is, I look at the info and it says that all provincial parks close October 8th. Has any one done winter or fall camping in a Provincial park before (Alogonquin, McGreggor? Hopefully Ferris). Do you just show up and throw up your tent and you're on your own or are we out of luck? The main reason why I'm asking is I don't want to show up after a 3 hour drive and have to turn around and come back. Any help would be a appreciated.
  4. I thought the banana superstition was just formed at my work. Now I realize why everyone was giving me such a hard time when I had a picture of a walleye beside my lunch (a banana) this spring. Interesting article here on the superstition of the banana if anyone wants a good read. http://people.howstuffworks.com/fishing-superstition.htm
  5. I think the one I was looking at last year on sale at bass pro was the Frabill excursion. It looked real nice and the 2 captains chairs looked super comfy. Has anyone had any experiance? That being said limeyangler's 3 man looks amazing. How many pennies do I need to save for one of those?
  6. I would agree. I could pass on taking walleye home if everyone (or most people) were playing by the rules. As long as I get to keep a few perch and Crappie I'd still be happy.
  7. Won't be long now before my work PPE is a riot shield and body armor.
  8. Very cool. I would strongly consider signing up for this except I can't really think of any friends who would be able to keep up with me for this.
  9. If by helping a friend you mean donating some money to charity or to a worthy cause, why don't we have it where its $1 to submit a photo or $10 to submit as many as you want. I know I enjoyed playing the photo game last year and would have no problem chipping in $10-$20 for a good cause. Maybe different catagories for photos too. Fish/Non-fish and maybe an oops catagory. Just ideas. I don't know what you had in mind exactly but I love playing the photo contest and seeing everyone elses great photos.
  10. My 5'6 Ugly Stick Lite with my Pfluger President reel. Sure it costs half as much as my 6'0 Medium St.Croix with my Rapala R-type on it, but I think my grandmother must have blessed that rod when she bought it for me for christmas 7 years ago. I've caught more fish with that combo then I've had good days.
  11. If the ice is good, does anyone want to go with me to show me the ropes and where is safe? I'll bring this up as it gets closer to the season.
  12. The thing I don't understand is that if it was crown land it would be legal to camp on your own but because it is a Provincal park you can't do that? Doesn't make any sense to me. I would have no problem non-facility camping.
  13. http://www.thestar.c...rovincial-parks In this one it mentions the parks are day use only. The other one they left the most important part out. Wait, the other one does mention it. Start of the second paragraph mentions how overnight camping was dropped.
  14. I've been looking for the full article in the star to no avail. Its a little more descriptive as to what will be happening. It was my understanding that the listed parks will only be open for day use.
  15. When I went to fushimi it was fairly busy. Really would it be that hard for them to close the bathrooms, still have the seasonal student staff as they have planned and then just have people pay what they can, and leave a sign at the entrance of the park saying 'use at your own risk. Not maintained or patrolled by staff'. But no. They would rather lock the doors at night instead.
  16. I'm going to tack on a question to this. I don't have a ski-do or anything to that effect. Are the good ice fishing spots on Quinte walkable? (Also if I'm a little crazy and willing to walk an hour to a good spot is it possible?)
  17. http://www.lfpress.com/2012/09/28/camping-banned-in-10-northern-parks I'm really upset about this because I camped at fushimi for the first time this year and it was fantastic. Looks like I am going to have a new spot for a getaway next year.
  18. Stanley burger just outside of Thunder Bay used to be the place to be. Not so much now sadly. Its a shame you arn't going up Long Lac and Hearst way, I could tell you about a bunch of hidden gems.
  19. Any advice for catching walleye off the dock? (I know I know, best advice is rent a boat) I really gotta talk my buddy into going splits with me on one. I feel like I've been allowed access to a goldmine but yet I've got my foot caught in the front door.
  20. All I ever use in Northern Ontario is a chartruse jig with a minnow. I've never had any 'Monsters' But my arm tends to get sore from all the pike and walleye I bring in. The locals up north always insist 'Use a minnow on everything!'
  21. I'll be totally honest, I like using 4 pound flouro on a 5'2 ugly stick for fishing. Now that being said, typically the fish I target and catch are no more then 3 pounds so its not really that bad. I have had some monster sheephead break my line and I was terrified when I was reeling in a 10 pound northern pike without a leader but for the smaller guys its a lot more fun. I'm the type of fisherman where if I go out, I like catching 1 pound smallies and watching them jump and flip. I feel like it would take away if I had 20 pound braided. Now that being said, I do have a 6'0 M rod with 15 pound braid for if I am targeting larger stuff. Its all about variety.
  22. Not to fermilliar of fish of the world so I'll do two Ontario fish. Pumpkineye. (Size and taste of walleye with the breeding speed and willingness to strike anything of pumpkinseed sunfish) Round Gobass (Imagine if we actually wanted to catch and eat em? Take the diet of the smallmouth bass and the insane breeding speed of round goby)
  23. Thanks again to everyone for the help. It was a good night, lots of panfish and Bass. and walleye? I didn't even know walleye were in this lake and I caught one off of a drop shot worm. Highlight of the night. Back he goes to grow bigger for the next person. All in all a great little lake for a kayak. I'll be back again soon.
  24. Thanks for the help guys. Mitchell lake looks much more kayak friendly. I do like Scugog, I just worry if the winds turn strongly North or South I could be in a lot of trouble.
  25. Thanks for the heads up. Anyone know about Canal lake?
