  1. What is this GPS you speak of? Lol I have one but the description I got was, the island that you can see closest to the road when you drive by. So, I stopped at the first island that I saw off of the road. Who knew there were 2? lol.
  2. Haha. I just realized today I was about 2km away from the actual spot the old guy told us about. Not sure if this makes this a better story or a worse one.
  3. Shoot, they look good but I'm not qualified. Thanks for the heads up though.
  4. Even if it were a contact league, hitting from behind is always a no-no. Back when I was in house league a hit from behind into the boards ment you had to go in front of a comittee and carried a minimum 2 game suspension. I'm surprised things have changed.
  5. Thanks. Yeah, buick told me that too. I can't get mad at him because he gives me tons of good advice, but he loves ripping on me too, these are how you determine your real friends. :rofl2:
  6. So, I realized that last week, its the middle of the ice fishing season and I hadn't even gotten out to ice fish for Lake Trout yet. I tried to get out a few times last week but everytime I looked like I was heading out 50+ KM winds said 'no no no not today'. So finally today after long last I get out. I had a few forum regulars mention a few lakes and a few people from work mention a few others for lake trout, but two weeks ago Chris K and I got a tip from a guy who owns a gas station and marina about a spot that was supposed to be really good...... I'm the type of person who overlooks logic and reason for insanity, so I decided to head there. Set up off of a nice big island with a 40ft dropoff (I hear lake trout like that depth) and started fishing. In the first hour I hooked into about 4 or 5 (or maybe the same fish who was dumb enough to keep hitting my lure) and every time lost em, I got a great fight out of it each time but had yet to actually land my first ever trout. The last time I lost him the line snapped...... guess a 4lb fluro leader probablly wasn't the best idea. After that, the day went silent for a few hours, I tried a few more places but had no luck. As darkness began to fall I decided to go back to my hot spot and make my last stand of the evening. I switched to something with a trebel hook too, no way was anything getting away. Finally, I see something rocket off the bottom and whack my lure. As per the advice of Buick14 (who gives me ongoing fishing tips via text message) I let the trout munch on my offering for a minute before setting the hook. After a great fight I finally landed one. No world records being broken here, or even OFC records but it was my first ever landed trout at a whopping 14 inches. I'm actually glad no one else was fishing with me because I actually did a little happy dance on the ice. After that I had a few more hits and lost a few more but after getting tha monkey off my back I was really enjoying laker fishing. I love how they would come up off the bottom and just hammer the line, how a 14 inch fish faught like a 3 pound pike. I hate to say it, but I might have to go out a few more times for lakers.
  7. Lost about 7...... and landed one. FIRST EVER LAKE TROUT!!

Nice. Ha ha most frusterating fish ever. I've never seen so many fish spit the hook in my life.

  8. In a heartbeat. In my line of work my phone gets slimy, sandy and overall beat up but I need to have it on me. Anything to keep it protected.
  9. Oh shoot, I gotta stop taking HGH. Set the hook once and ripped a Suckers lower lip right off. :S lol what benfit would you possibly get from steroids in fishing?
  10. Go to Highway 89, drive until you can drive no further. Look for the large group of yellow huts, walk towards them until you tire out (I find 200 meters away is a great spot) put a minnow head on..... anything I bet you could catch perch on a safty pin and a ball of yarn. Have fun.
  11. Wish vids like that didn't have the music. Kinda takes away. But this made me laugh.
  12. Haha dang it. I need more notice or I would have gone. Good luck tonight.
  13. Dang it, why did you guys have to mention soft water? Now all I can think about is my kayak and my drop-shot rod.

  14. Wow, that perch is a hog. I had a buddy who went out today who said the walleye were slow.
  15. I should probably go fishing tomorrow or tuesday. The minnows in my fridge are telling me to.

  17. BWAHAHAHAHAHA THIS THREAD IS AWESOME!!!
  18. Lmao I can actually see that happening. That just made my day.
  19. Heh. Yep, I do recognize that lake. Same one as when I took 3rd year fish. Does fleming still stock the back ponds with brookies? Also did Dave Preslie tell you any interesting stories about poop?
  20. Dang kids, steal your auger, steal your flasher, catch your fish. Haha. Naw I'm just having fun. Its was great to see chris bring up that sweet pike. It was a shame he lost his other one too, it was fighting pretty good.
  21. Waaaay too soon. I love bass, probably my favourite fish. I love the way they look, the fight, the way they hit. The ease or difficulty of hooking into them depending on the day. ....... But right now the lake trout are calling.
  22. You can ask buick, I'm pretty stupid when it comes to principals and nature.
  23. Not for a million dollars, a date with Zoey Deschanel and my own TV show. Good fishing for me is priceless. Its like why I say I would have made a good conservation officer. If I saw someone poaching and they tried to bribe me, my response would be 'what do you think I would spend that bribe money on? Gear to try to catch those fish!!'
  24. Haha I was going to say, your version and my version of 'Small Tournaments' is totally different. My 'Small Tournaments' are island lake and the Fish-a-thon for a cure.
