It needs a good cleaning and new oil inside. I had trouble with those same reels on the ice. S.

I'm sure she'd go with you any time Cliff. Today was a girls day of fishing. I can only imagine the gossip in that hut right now hahaha S.

This just jogged my memory. I never did come pick up those buckets! Totally forgot about them. Maple syrup season is coming. Its actually flowing now!! If you have too many and they are taking up space, let me know and I can take them off your hands! Sorry about that!! S.

Yup, great spot. I don't have much to offer because I live in the area and have never stayed at a resort, so I have no first hand knowledge. If you need info on any of the kawartha lakes, just pm me and ask. I've fished them all plenty. S.

Sawwwweeeet! Congrats on the PB. Looks like an awesome time! That pike in the hole shot is awesome. I'd put that on my wall of fame for sure. S.

I have never had a bad day with Timmy....even when the fish didn't want to bite. Always a class act, and great operation. I LOVE his shop too....some real cool stuff in there! Glad ya had a good day and got a couple nice feeds of fish too. I don't know about you, but catching that many perch wears me out LOL....its a lot of work when its non stop action like that!! S.

Another reg. question catch vs. possesion limit
Sinker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Well, let me tell you from personal experience, if you are travelling from one zone to another where posession/slot limits are different, you best have a receipt or something to prove you were at least in the zone you say you were in. I was coming home from up north(near north bay) one early spring from an icefishing trip. On the way home, we swung by lake simcoe (2 whitefish limit, closed march 15th) to see if we could launch a boat yet for perch, as the ice was coming off. We had 5 whitefish each in the back of the truck that we had caught that morning from the lake up north (limit was 25 each back then, open all year). A CO stopped us and asked to check our gear. No problem....until he saw the whities and instantly assumed they were from simcoe. He went nuts, and didn't believe a word we said about being up north. I had no proof of where we had been. I ended up calling my bank and let the CO talk to them about my last bank withdraws before he would believe us. He thought he had us red handed LOL S. -
Have you even been in a glass boat? Only reason I ask is because if you have, you would know there is no comparison with glass and aluminum on big/rough water. Sure, some aluminums rice nice, but not like glass. I have had the same 16ft widebody starcraft since '93. Doesn't leak a drop and I beat the hell out of it. I duck hunt and fish from it, so it sees a ton of abuse. Still going strong. I will probably have it until the day I die, then my son will abuse it some more. I'm thinking I may upgrade my engine this year to a new yammy 40 tiller, but for now I have a yamaha built mariner 40hp tiller which has also been bullet proof. I have been in many Lunds similar to mine, and the lunds do ride nicer in rough water, and they are a bit dryer for a tiller. One thing for sure, if you plan to have 4 ppl in your boat with a full walk through, you are going to want more power than a 60hp. At least a 90, and make sure to max out the HP rating on the boat. It does make a huge difference in handling, especially in tight quarters, and rough water. I really like the looks and layouts of the alumacrafts, but i haven't been in one on the water. IMO, a deep and wide 16ft boat is the most versitile rig there is. You can do a lot with a 16footer from big water to small water, easy to tow, easy to maintain, and very fishable. S.

You have to match your hook size, to your bait size. Not hook size to fish size. If your using small minnows, you need a small hook. A big hook will just anchor them. S.

I'm not jealous at all. Really, I'm not. Not one bit. P.S....I hate you. LOL S.

Id check out rice lake if it was me personally. S.

I like the off topic threads myself. Thats mostly why I come here. I have learned a ton of stuff from them over the years. I've been here a looong time, and I do read all the fishing reports, but I might not reply. I just don't have anything to add. If I have something to add I do. I read your report Cliff, but I didn't respond. I talked to you the next day thru text messages and figured I'd already said what I wanted to. What we need is a like button on threads. I would use it. S.

I agree 100%. I fish rice once a week at least from may to September, and have for at least 20 years....more....and never once have I been checked by OPP or a CO. Not once. I could go out anytime I want and catch as many as I want and bring them home with no worries at all about being checked. Its sad. S.
-
Its moved now. He was moving them yesterday. A few reports of guys not catching really hurts his business, so he does make an honest effort to keep fish under his huts. I had buddies out there on the same day you were and they reported slow fishing too. S.

Tim Hales is on fish. I was out in his area yesterday, on my own. You have no worries. If he gets guys not catching fish, he moves his set up....he was moving everything yesterday. He's in about 35ft of water now, 5km out. You should do well. Just minnows, small hooks, and light line is all you need. A basic drop shot rig is nice and easy for the kids to work with. S.

Id say its slick as snot! How much do you figure it weighs? S.

Snowmobiler through the ice and missing in Peterborough
Sinker replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
The problem with snowmobilers going through the ice is speed. The are going so fast down the lake that by the time they realize they are in a bad place, its too late. I don't know if this happened at night or not, but night time is even worse. The place they went in is a very well known bad area that hardly freezes on the best years. S. -
There is tons of free parking in Beaverton. I would think tim is probably running guys out from there still, as he usually runs down the river from his house, and I wouldn't think its frozen enough for him yet. There is always a good, well marked trail out from town as well. I'm not sure if people are parking on the ice yet or not, but I wouldn't be surprised. IF you need some info on parking etc in beaverton, pm me. I am heading out there on tues or wed next week too.....maybe both days. Cliff, I will text you on tuesday when I'm out there to see how your making out. S.

Say what??? You need to try it. S.

I have always had good luck with Tim Hales on the trout/whitie grounds. He goes around 12-14km out, on white shoal. I have tried most of the operators on the south/east side of the lake, and tims is hands down the best IMO. Always the best equipment, his huts are awesome, and they are just generally good guys. There are some shady operators on simcoe. S.

Ok, we can work something out then. I usually go out with hales once or twice a season too....for the same reasons you do....its just easy LOL. S.
