  1. Another great lake that I haven't been to in a few years. I used to ice fish it a lot. You should fish it through the ice, its great. I will let you know if I'm up there. Beers are on me! Land O' Lakes is my favourite area as well. S.
  2. MNRF has no jurisdiction here at all. Really, it was just an unfortunate accident that everyone walked away from. Lets not get in a huff about it and call in the authorities for nothing. Sheesh. S.
  3. That right there is what its all about. Good stuff! S.
  4. This ALWAYS happens on my weekend to work. I haven't made it yet. DAMN!!
  5. Just to be clear, the airbags didn't stop the machine from going through. He got hung up in the crack. Had something happened and the machine went down, the airbags would keep it afloat.
  6. I had a guy give me hell for launching to the side of the concrete pad one time, because he was taking too long getting his boat out. I gave up on waiting and just backed down the gravel, dropped the boat in, and he went nuts saying that I was launching out of turn, I was wrecking the gravel...blah, blah, blah.....I didn't say a word, just parked and hopped in the boat laughing while he struggle to line up the rollers on his fully submerged trailer. S.
  7. Yes, great report and video. Man, if you need someone to go with you this year, hit me up LOL S.
  8. Funny, I've been going up there for a number of years now, and we rarely catch pike. I can only think of one pike we caught. You must be fishing the very west end, what they call little gull lake. I have a hard time even finding weeds on the east end. Its very rocky and deep. Tough to find fish, but we always get enough for a fish fry, and usually a few over the slot to keep it interesting as well. S.
  9. There aren't many operators out there that would know better than this one. Simcoe is a big lake, and the ice has been "safe" in that area for over a month. Stuff happens. Kind of like a car accident. You just never know. Most other operators on the lake would have went straight to the bottom of the lake. This one has extra safety measures in place in case something bad, like this, happens. They did a great job making sure everyone was safe. S.
  10. I didn't know that you went up there. I'm usually up there for the walleye opener/ May long weekend. Pm me before your trip and I can share what was working....or not working LOL. I have the same experience as you. You have to work to find them, and they are always somewhere different. S.
  11. Just got back from 4 days up there. Love that lake. What kind of info were you looking for? I haven't explored much of the lake, and we stay in the very east end. Always decent fishing, but like FF said above, you sometimes have to work for them...but once you figure them out, the fishing can be really good. Its beautiful country any way you slice it, and I just love being there. One of my favourite places to be. S.
  12. Yes, good on the operator for getting everyone out safe and taking the extra safety of air bags too. Not many operators have the air bags. He didnt just suddenly break thru the ice either. The story i have is there was a new crack he had to cross. There is 15" of ice there. Plenty safe, but stuff happens. S.
  13. He needs a tiller. S.
  14. Well, there should also be something in there with regards to helping someone who is having trouble. I know I have helped many people at the launch, simply because I could tell they didn't know what they were doing, and were under pressure making it worse. If you see someone doing something wrong, or you know there is an easier way, offer to help them. Biggest mistake I see is people trying to load their boats with the trailer too far in the water. S.
  15. Yes, this. I like it myself. Its great for getting into shallow water. My hunting partner has the same emgine on a 16ft lund. It goes good. Sounds like a great rig. S.
  16. I wish i did!
  17. I can help you out with some jigs. Make sure you have some williams spoons too. Both sizes. Im away til sunday but next week i will drop some off for you. I am hoping to be out there next weekend, so if your out there call me and i will come by and give you a demonstration on how to work the meegs. I also have a portable graph you can borrow if you need it. S.
  18. Check Radioworld for the iceducer. They had them not long ago. S.
  19. Sweet! Tim is always moving his huts around. We did well out there saturday as well. Kept 25 real nice ones and released the rest. 25 is my cut off. Thats enough for a couple meals and I can clean them all in less than an hour. I'm itching for some reel peel now. Going north this weekend for 4 days. Can't wait!!
  20. Shallow, yes, but I don't find moving really helps. I find brookies like to cruise around under the ice. They don't sit still. I set up in a shallow flat with a muddy bottom, maybe some wood or rock along shore, but I set up and wait them out. The tend to do laps around the lake. You will get a flurry of action, then nothing, then another flurry. They are curious. Noise seems to attract them. I've even taken a stick and stirred up the bottom in the holes and caught them. They are very hit or miss.
  21. Yeah, the slush under the ice is a bit of a pain for sure. I find the perch are always in the areas that have it though. Not sure why that is, but I have seen it a few times now. When its like that I put the jiffy down the hole and just let 'er rip pulling water and slush on top of the ice. It helps a lot. My better half and a friend of hers were out with Tim Hales yesterday and did well again. She came home with about 25-30 good ones for me to clean LOL.......said the morning was hot, but it slowed down mid day and started to pick up again about 4pm. S.
  22. I'm in no big rush for them. I won't be tapping trees for a while yet. That said, this mild spell has had a few trees running a little.....I may have missed a bit, but oh well, I'm just not ready yet! Thanks again, really appreciate that. S.
  23. I've positively seen two. One was at Lingham lake. One was closer to home around Janetville. The one I saw by janetville jumped clear across a 2 lane road in one leap. The one at Lingham lake walked across an opening along the shore of the lake in a very secluded bay. Thought it was a deer at first, but there is no mistaking a big cat like that. We were only about 70yds from it. There is no mistaking the tail on these cats. And the size of them is scary! I hope you get some info back, Chris. Would love to hear it. S.
  24. I will take as many as you want to get rid of. I am going to need them soon. Last year the bucket deal happened after syrup season, so I forgot about them....I feel bad now. S.
