  1. It is legal for my son to continue fishing if I have my 2 whities. As I mentioned, it was my sons line, I just set the hook and handed it to him. Sinker
  2. Just keep in mind, the kids have to catch their own fish. You can't catch their limit for them. That would be party fishing, and its illegal. I had a warden give me a real hard time on simcoe when I set the hook on a whitie, on my sons set line, and handed it to my son......we had to release it, even though my son brought it in, and it was his line...........I already had my 2 fish on the ice. My son was a little miffed, it was his first one, and he really wanted to show mommy. An ontario resident who does not require a license, is allowed to catch and keep a full limit. Sinker
  3. Next time, head over to the nonquon river. Its pretty much straight across from goreski's. GCD is right tho.....the rental places are closed for the prime eye bite. I've caught lots of eyes on the west side of the lake, across from goreski's, drifting the flats, casting small spinnerbaits. White or chartreuse, with double colorado blades. A worm harness drifted over the same area's will work well too. It needs to warm up a bit before the flats get good tho I think...... Sinker
  4. Its funny.....I've been drop-shotting eyes my whole life. For the longest time, it was the only way I knew how to catch them. Now the bass guys are using it, and come up with a fancy name for it.... I always call it "the rig". The stand out hooks are good, just check your line once in a while, I find the line wraps around the hook, and wears the line out. I like a big split shot for the weight in snaggy water....it just slips off when you get snagged.....easier/cheaper than a bell weight every time, and easy to adjust your height off bottom. I can't see the point of spending 4-5 bucks for a few of the clip on weights, when you can get a bag of splitshots for half the price.....and they do the same thing......?? I just use the improved clinch knot, and leave a long tag end for the weight. You'll catch eyes with that rig for sure.....no question about it! Sinker
  5. I'm pretty sure I got that link from this site....so, don't thank me It is a good one tho..... Sinker
  6. The kawartha's in general have been slow since opener. We need some warm weather to get the weeds going. Lots of fish still in the rivers spawning. It still doesn't hurt to try though...... Sinker
  7. If your using an inline swivel, keep the leader short enough that your not reeling the swivel up to your tip when you cast. You'll ruin the tip eyelet in no time. If your not using a swivel, go with the uni-uni and make it as long as you want......I usually go a rod lenght. For casting=short, Trolling=rod length.....that's just what I do though... Sinker
  8. I agree with what has been said about vanish. I find its great for icefishing, or vertical jigging. I think casting with it really weakens the line for whatever reason. Its ok for leaders, but that's about it. Sinker
  9. Have a look at some of these. http://www.animatedknots.com/ Personally, I use the improved clinch for everything, and never have a problem. With braid, I burn the tag end off, just in case it wants to slip a little, the burnt nub won't slip thru all the way. I find fluoro, you really need to get it good and wet before you pull it tight. Sinker
  10. The best is when you get to fish with both your son and your father I'm fortunate enough to have many years of this to come if all goes to plan Great post!
  11. I use the oil recomended by my engine manufacturer. I used to run the cheap stuff, until I got real bad carbon build up, so much so that it plugged the exaust port on my engine, then I looked on the oil bottle and realized the ash content in the cheap oil is way higher than the recomended oil. The good stuff is more $, but worth it in the long run I think. I think I paid $40 for 4L, and it usually lasts me a full season in my 40HP. Its the only lu;bricant in there, so may as well get the good stuff. I have a mariner engine, and use merc oil thru it. Less smoke, and not as much carbon build up. Sinker
  12. I had the exact same trouble with my trailer. Had all lights, till I put on my running lights, then nothing worked right. It was the plug that changes it from a 7 way to a 4-way. I racked my brains for a whole weekend before I changed the plug. I'm sure its something simple/stupid. It usually is with trailer lights. Sinker
  13. Never caught a pickeral in Simcoe either..... I've heard of them getting caught on the east side of the lake tho....so, that's where i'd try, but to be honest, I would try a different lake if its pickeral your after. Any of the kawartha lakes have good mumbers of them. If you do find them in simcoe, I'd love to hear about it!! Sinker
  14. So does anyone know if we're talking PIKE or PICKERAL (walleye)? if we could clear that up, maybe I could help you out baitbuster..... Oh ya...welcome aboard! Sinker
  15. You got that right!! LOL
  16. Well as long as your not in a rush, it could be a fun project. I'll bet that old johnson fires right up! Sinker
  17. Yup, use the oil your engine manufacturer reccomends. At least then if there is any problems, its not from not using proper oil.
  18. So the new recipe is corrosive? My boat is fine, I've been keeping a close eye on it since I heard about this whole ordeal. I agree on the marine grade pl as well. Regular exterior ply will last just as long.
  19. I don't think the PT lumber has any effect on aluminum like they say. I've had a PT floor in my boat for the last 6 years, and its just the same as when I put it in. No problems whatsoever, and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I had the whole thing stripped down the last couple weeks to do some reno's and all the metal is just like it was when I got the boat. Its a '93 starcraft. I used 1x6 fence boards, and its great. All the water and dirt goes thru the small cracks between the boards. A quick power wash and its like new again. A lot easier to install as well. The floor of my boat is like a nice deck.....all its missing is the hot tub and BBQ! It dries in no time, and holds no dirt like carpet does. I hate carpet! All it does is hold dirt and stay wet!! I still don't understand why they ever put it in boats? Sinker
  20. Buckeye marina also rents boats. Right in bobcaygeon.
  21. Im partial to the eagle claw wide gap hooks. Laser sharp. I don't like hooks with offset eyes, I find they pull out a lot of times. The Diiachi's are a good hook too, but the small hooks have a tiny hole in the eye.....just makes it hard to get your line thru when its cold out and your hands are frozen.....but they are a great hook. Nice and light, the minnows can really move around with them. Match your hook to your bait size. For med. minnows I use a #12 eagle claw, same for trout, but depending on clarity, might need #14's. For small pinhead minnows, I use the #14's. If your using bigger bait, bigger hooks. I fished the whole winter this season with #14 hooks on 4 lb test for everything from perch to simcoe whities/lakers with no probs.........have been for years. Sinker
  22. My lawn is crawling with worms right now. I should go take a picture....its unreal!! That is usually a first "real" sign of spring. Also a good time to go smelt fishing!! Sinker
  23. Nice boat, I saw it parked outside the gates at boatland the other day. The deal may seem great, but be careful with those guys, I've had nothing but bad luck there. Sinker
  24. How about the guy at the prop drop, just south of #7 on #35? He's a pretty good marine mechanic. ...........has been good to me anyways. Did you check Robinsons Marine? They should be able to get you one, if they don't have it. Very helpful in there as well. I know nothing about power trim, so I'm of no help, but if you need a hand with something don't be afraid to ask. If your boat isn't up and running for the start of fishing, I'm sure we can work something out to get you on the water Sinker
