  1. The mechanic at the marina might have one. He's a pretty nice guy, I'm sure he'd let you have a look. Might be worth a shot....? Sinker
  2. We'll have to hook up then for sure and try our luck together........my boat is docked 4 doors down from Big Cliff. If I find them I'll be sure to let you's know! Its just funny that all the fishing I've done on that lake, and not one crappie. My dad has caught a few, but just incidenals while walleye fishing. I guess ya don't get many when your craking musky baits most of the summer.... I have a few spots in mind, and Im gonna work a little harder at it this year on sturg.......they gotta be around there somewhere! Sinker
  3. Hey, I've been fishing sturgeon lake for quite a few years. Over that time, I've caught the odd crappie, but nothing to get excited about. I usually hit rice or pigeon if I want to get into them good. Anyone get into them on sturgeon? I've seen them in our marina in the fall, but wasn't fishing at the time. Just looking for basic info......basically.....is it worth it to target them in there? Any special "areas" on the lake that hold them better than others? I know pigeon is loaded, cameron is getting good, and scugog has some huge slabs, but I haven't heard much about sturgeon for crappies..........? Thanks, Sinker
  4. I don't usually keep a limit. I like to have around 20-30, and I"m good to go. Takes me about an hour from the time I start, until they are either in the pan, or prepared for the freezer. That includes clean up....everything. Sinker
  5. It cost me $60 for a prop off a 40 hp, re built, and balanced. He has one of mine right now. Sinker
  6. That's where I take all mine. Good guy, good service. he doesn't do the work there, but ships them out to Kawartha props........I've always had good service with them. Sinker
  7. Definitly a great read! No problems with the links.....it all worked perfectly. Kudos to your dad for making a trip that extreme at his young age! He's a trooper for sure!! Wish you guys many more trips just like it in the future!! Thanks for posting, and i"m looking forward to many more to come!! Sinker
  8. Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure there is a set distance you have to be downstream of the dam in order to fish the regular season opener for crappies. The walleye season opens 2 weeks later below the dam, to protect the spawners that are there then. Your fine if your so far downstream, but I"m not sure how far exactly you have to be. Hope that is as clear as mud...lol. Sinker
  9. I don't know of a fish that has sweeter meat than a smelt. Just fry them up whole, some people gut them, but it depends on the size of them. I get mine from NB, saltwater, YUMMY!! Sinker
  10. Do you really think the crappies have had that much of an impact on the eyes in scugog? I know the eye fishing isn't as good as it once was, but I don't think crappies are the blame. Maybe too many people fishing....hard and softwater.....the lake gets pounded! Release the eyes and feast on crappies!! Sinker
  11. There is also a free launch in bowmanville. Good concrete launch, puts you right in the creek itself. Get off the 401 eastbound on liberty, take your first right, first right again, first right again.....first left puts you in the launch parking lot. Sorry, I don't know the street names.....just follow the launch signs. I've never tried it this time of year, but I know later in the summer Port Darlington is killer for kings. Should be the odd brown kicking around out there tho..... HIH, Sinker
  12. The only time I use my float rod is for crappies. Easy to make long casts with a float. Long casts are usually the key in catching a bunch of crappies. Its also nice to see the old loomis bent over with a nice slab on the end I usually hit rice or pigeon, but I have pulled some slabs thru the ice on the bog.....maybe its better there now? I'll have to give it a shot. Anyone get into them good on Sturgeon? sinker
  13. I had one try and take a duck decoy on sturgeon lake once. It hit it 3 times before it gave up. I thought my decoy was toast for sure.....he was a brute! Sinker
  14. If property is posted NO TRESSPASSING.......you need written consent to be on the land. Period. A CO will charge you under the tresspass to property act, but I think the land owner has to lay the charges. Sinker
  15. Those boats ARE sweet! I would enjoy a tour of that shop. My old man would REALLY enjoy it. He's built a few boats, but nothing like those ones. Thanks for the pics, Sinker
  16. I was out on saturday on a foot of good ice. South of North bay. The fishing was unreal!! Sinker
  17. Not legal. The question was pertaining to possession tho....... ......its right in the title! Easton, 2.If a conservation officer believes on reasonable grounds that there is in a building or other place any thing that will afford evidence of an offence under this Act but that the time required to obtain a search warrant would lead to the loss, removal or destruction of the evidence, the conservation officer may, without a search warrant, enter and search the building or other place. In other words, exigent circumstances. Key words are in bold to the definition of exigent. Also, check under search of a Dwelling......that may be different again, but I'm not positive in the FWCA. Need to see the definition of a dwelling first I guess. I don't have the time to check it out right now, but it will be in there. They can't just come to your door and expect you to let them in for a search without a warrant for no reason. If someone has called and told them that you have 100 walleye in your freezer, then sure, they're coming in, no questions asked. That would be reasonable, and probable grounds. I still say they don't give a rats ass whether you have a bass or any other kind of fish in your aquarium........you think they have time for something like that? I doubt it........ Sorry for getting off topic Brandon Sinker
  18. The tri-lakes and rice are a good bet for crappies. I haven't fished them in Scugog yet, but we pulled some bruisers out of there thru the ice!! May have to give it a shot this year. Opens the last saturday in april on all these lakes. Not sure about the sanctuary on scugog, I believe its only south of the causeway, but check if you go! Sinker
  19. The big boat goes in May 1st, then I'll be up there a few times a week. I'm in Lindsay daily tho.......we'll have to hook up for sure. Not quite sure where your place is, but I see your very close to the marina. You prolly see me coming and going all the time. I'm the guy who is out there breaking ice in the fall to keep duck hunting..............prolly the last boat on the lake. 16 ft Starcraft with a 40 mariner. Sinker
  20. Live or dead its still possession of an out of season fish............what was the question again?? Its gone from possesion to transport.........different laws there. A CO DOES need a warrant to search a dwelling. Unless there is exigent circumstances..........look it up in the FWCA....under search........its all available on e-laws. Sinker
  21. I can have fish in my freezer that are out of season, as long as they were harvested during the open season. For example, I go fishing on the last day of walleye seaon, catch my limit, bring them home and freeze them. The next day, when season closes, I can't be charged with being in possession of out of season fish........can I? ....works for wild game as well......I have some birds in the freezer now......I don't think I'll be charged because season is closed. I'd assume since the bass is in your possession and harvested during open season, you'd be fine. First of all the authority would need a warrant, or exigent circumstances to enter your dwelling to find this bass, and I really don't think they'd waste thier time with a fish in an aquarium. The judge would laugh at that one for sure....... Not quite a straight yes/now asnwer , but I wouldn't worry about it. Sinker
  22. Yup, that ice is powerful stuff! I didn't end up going to the marina afterall, but our boat is fine, our slip is fine and that's all I needed to know. Not sure what they're gonna do with it now tho......those boats in there are gonna be a big job to get out........if they can get them out!! I'm going to stop by there tomorrow while Im in town. Thanks for the pics Big Cliff! Sinker
  23. According to my fishing log, I was on simcoe on April 15th last year. There were guys out there a few days before me as well. The perching was killer......my boat is ready!! Big Cliff, I'm heading up there in a couple hours. I'll take some pics for sure. My dad's boat should be fine......he's on shore still. It was only a matter of time before those outside slips took a beating, they needed some work as it is. Our slips will be safe I think, we're on the inside. Sinker
  24. Ok, Big Cliff, your freaking me out here. I keep my boat at that marina thats 4 doors down from you!! My Dad's big boat is there now......hope its ok.......his is out of the water tho, so it should be fine. You must be talking about the ones that are raised in the slips? I'm gonna have to take a run up there tomorrow for a look see......... Sinker
  25. Ahhhhhh.....I get it. You guys with the fancy boats have to put it on the outside cause your nice rear casting deck is over the plug and you can't access it easily.........gotcha. I just have a plain jane open aluminum. No probs getting at the plug. Sinker
