  1. That first shot of the bufflehead is awesome!!! Cool little bird them.......make a great target!! Theres something fishy about the landing hen mallard though. Take a close look at her bill. I think that may be a mallard/black hybrid? Notice the bill on the next hen pic (orange/black)? I can see some white on the speculum of the landing bird though, which leads me to believe its a hybrid? Sinker
  2. Well, being family day and all, I figured there was no better day to get the kids out. The original plan was to go perchin, but we changed that when we realised the weather man was actually right, and it was going to be a beauty day!! We packed up our grilled cheese and hot dogs last night, loaded up our backpacks, and hit the fart sack early. I warned them that the fishing might not be stellar, but we were going to enjoy a nice day in the woods around the campfire......we were all excited for the adventure in the morning. Up at the crack of 7am this morning, a quick breaky and away we go. Met up with friends and their daughter on the way. Drive up was beauties. Couldn't have asked for a nicer winter day. Got to the lake, and loaded all the gear in the sleigh and we're off. I forgot how much more gear you need with t he kids......they eat like horses!! The sleigh was a little bit heavier than normal, but it was good going since the thaw last week. The lake was pretty much all glare ice, with a few spots of snow. Me and my daughter were the first ones to make it on the ice. We drilled a bunch of holes, and got our lines in right away. We weren't set up long, and Melissa is yelling......fish, fish, fish.... ... ......I look over and her rod is thumping. Out pops her first ice brookie.....I think I was more happy than her!!! She said its the prettiest fish she's ever caught......I have to agree with her. Same fish, different angle....... A little closer... Things went quiet after that one, so we got off the ice and made a nice fire. These guys had a hunger on from the walk in I guess. We gathered up a nice pile of wood. Got a raging fire going, and prepared to eat our faces off. Once the fired burned down a bit, we got the hotdogs going. Then a few grilled cheeses, and some roasted marshmallows. Oh, can't forget the hot chocolate. I was kept busy for a while. All this time, Rich had moved away from our little set up, so a little quiter area. He thought we were spooking the fish with all our noise. Didnt take him long and he had one on the ice.........the kids went running. Heres the fish....... My little guy with the same fish. Unfortunatly, him and me were skunked......but hey......someone had to get wood and keep the food going Once again, things went quiet. The kids did a great job of keeping the holes cleared, and making sure the minnows were swimming around good. We played a game of ice golf, did some skating, and basically just had some good ole winter fun. Just as we were getting set to pack up, Frank starts running. Now, Frank doesn't run, so we all knew right away, there was a fish on!!! Once again, the kids went running!! Again, another nice brookie on the ice! No pics of this one, I was busy packing and picking up garbage and beer bottles someone else had left behind........slobs!! It was a great day out there. We truly had a fine day in the outdoors. A nice fire, lots of grub, and even a few fish. Watching those kids running for the lines brought back memories of myself when I was that age. Good times for sure. The were all sound asleep before we hit the main hwy home! They're already asking if we're going again next weekend Sinker
  3. Me and my kids are going trout fishing in the morning. All our gear is packed and ready to go. A nice little speck lake, should be nobody there. Get a nice fire going......roast some weenies and marshmallows.......can't wait!!! Maybe even get a fish or two!! Not sure about the trout pond at the show........ Sinker
  4. If you don't drive into cracks, you won't go through. Ya gotta watch them cracks.......
  5. Sounds like a blast Fidel! Makes me want to go back again already!! Your weather was similar to what we had, but still a great time!!! I pasted the vids in a new browser and they worked fine. Sinker
  6. Throw the T3's out, Advil is better!! All T3's do is make you feel like crap, and bung you up!!!! At least Advil has an anti inflammatory, I found it worked a lot better than the T3s. Sinker
  7. Our trails here are glare ice. If they're not ice, they're bare ground. Im not surprised they're closed, but not sure about a land dispute....... Sinker
  8. That gizzard shad is pretty cool! I've never seen one before........neat catch for sure!!! Sinker
  9. Access rds are generally fine. Just use common sense. Don't go down a road that's not plowed......Deep Bay Rd is a paved road. If you have a lake in mind you'd like to try, shoot me a pm. I might be able to point you in the right direction. Sinker
  10. I agree with aniceguy. This is just a proposal. It will get killed in council. Sinker
  11. I can second what cliff said. I had the same sort of thing happen to me. Just out of the blue.........I didnt' do anything out of the ordinary, my back just gave out on me. Shooting pain down my legs, couldn't straighten up......it sucked!! Did all the hospital/doctor things with no results. I was given muscle relaxants and anti-inflammatory........then decided on my own to go to the chiropractor. At first I thought he was making it worse, but like cliff said, after a couple sessions, it got better...........MUCH better!! I feel for ya Tybo, its not a nice thing to deal with. Sinker
  12. Google some of these.......you might have trouble getting a hut monday with it being a holiday, but you never know. Tim Hales Fish Huts Hanks Huts Bonnie Boats Randy's fish huts Floyd Hales fish huts Mitchells huts... That should get you started anyways.........start with Tim hales, we did well there thursday. Sinker
  13. Thanks for the heads up Sinker
  14. Just get a map, close your eyes, and put your finger on a spot. Go there. Honestly, most of the lakes up there are pretty much the same. Just pick one, and go. I've been doing that for years, its the only way to find new waters. The whole chain up #35 highway are all pretty good for smaller lakers, but there are the odd good ones in there too. Gull lake, off Deep Bay Rd. is a decent spot to try. Lakers, whities and ling. Just check the regs, most lakes up there are one line and slots on lakers. Sinker
  15. I'd love to man, but I work EVERY weekend!! Good luck, Sinker
  16. We were actually going to do the 3 hour drive for SMELTS! Its been a long time since I've had a good bucket of smelts to clean.......and EAT!!! Sinker
  17. That was the price. NO kidding!!! I didn't buy them there for that reason, but I also couldn't find them anywhere else either. I bought blades for my swedebore instead. $25........ Sinker
  18. Hmmm..........maybe we can net those smelts from shore now??? That would be awesome!!!! Keep us posted Fishmaster!!! Sinker
  19. Brian is going fishing Take cover, something baaaad is going to happen!!!! Sinker
  20. Gagnons had some last week. Assuming its an 8"??? They were $45.99. Sinker
  21. I came off the ice at beaverton around 5pm. The pics you posted.....are nothing compared to what it was then. The whole place was JAMMED with HUGE chunks of ice!! Quite the difference from w hen we went out this morning! BTW....the whities were on fire today out there. Sinker
  22. Mine works fine, and its not down under the ice. Mine is down about a foot. I don't see any reason to have it down past the ice. I can shoot THRU the ice if I put some water on it. Sinker
  23. Its so easy. Once your pics are loaded to photobucket, copy the IMG link under the pic. Paste it into your report, and you should be golden. Under each pic, there are 4 link options, make sure you pick the IMG link. Sinker
  24. Man, I just sat and read all that front to back. I just couldn't stop. Your living the dream bud, I'm jealous!!! Thank you for posting this......great read!! Sinker
  25. Both very nice deep, clear lakes. Typical canadian shield lakes, different from the kawartha's. Mainly sm bass and lakers, but kennisis is also stocked with good numbers of brook trout. I've only fished redstone thru the ice, but we did well with lakers, and a couple ling. Sinker
