  1. Most important tip right there. In too far is trouble, out too far is trouble. There is a sweet spot, you have to find it. S.
  2. I drill 90% of my holes by hand. I just can't be bothered to haul around a gas auger when I'm walking, or on early ice. I know when my buds come with a gas auger, my hand drilled hole is done, scooped out and my line is being sent down before they have thier holes drilled Until there is a foot, I drill by hand. Its not a big deal to pound a hole thru the ice. I am good with the old school mora/swedebore augers. I haven't quite got the finbore down, but I just picked up an 8"er to try out for this season........they're supposed to be good........I'll let ya know S.
  3. I don't actually set up and hunt them, but I shoot everyone that I have an ethical shot at. When you lose a deer to coyotes, 50 mins after you shot the deer, you tend to get a hate on for them. Coyotes are smart. The more you kill, the more they will breed. Killing them off isn't much help. S.
  4. Thanks Brian, now I'm homesick I was talking to the family down home this evening, man, I wish I was there. Nothing like a down home Christmas!! S.
  5. Well, the kids are in bed, we're all set and waiting for santa. Me and the wife are just having some quiet time, with a couple festive beverages. I can't wait for the morning. No doubt, the kids will be up before day light!! Merry Christmas Brian!! S.
  6. Atta boy Steve!! I'm jealous!!! S.
  7. I leave 98 more people I also went to two of the meetings I can't wait to pound some slabs on my home lakes!! Its gonna be a sweet winter for sure!!!! There will always be bad apples in every bunch. Leave it to a fishing message board to bring out nothing but the worste!! You can't win, they will whine with no fishing, and they will whine with fishing......Just go fish and be happy!! I know I will S.
  8. Sorry to hear that Ron!! At least it wasn't your hip!!!! S.
  9. What if they were just lost?? Or maybe thier car broke down? Do you approach everyone that comes to your camp with a shotgun? You'd better shoot the thing if you approached me with a shotgun pointed at me, cause I"m going to ram it so far up........ S.
  10. I just use a slip float on my second rod. S.
  11. That's good looking ice Terry. It doesn't get any better than that! Lets just hope we don 't get a big wind, and snow on top of it. Thanks for the report!! S.
  12. Happy birthday TJQ!! S.
  13. That's great! I've fished the kawartha's for over 20 years, and I've NEVER been checked by a CO, or cop on the water. Never even seen one out there!!!!!! I've been checked on scugog on the ice, but nowhere else. S.
  14. Williams ice jig, half and half hammered, #60, no bait. Just jig the hell out of it!! I always put a berkely sparkle nugget in my tubes for lakers. For some reason they seem to like it. I also leave the weight about halfway back inside the tube, this gives it a slower fall, and larger circle on the drop......that's when you get most of the hits. Watch your line. S.
  15. Its always nice to have a back up. I know when I go out on the big lake, I have the electric (which will only keep me head on into the waves) with a back up battery as well. At the very least, its piece of mind. Its worth the $ to get that Johnson looked at by a pro. It won't cost you much, and it will run like a dream. They last forever. S.
  16. Its been tight for over a week. It iced right across last friday. I haven't been out on it, but I'd say there will be more than enough ice for opener. S.
  17. Be careful out there boys!!! A break down can be a BIG problem this time of year. Your pretty lucky there was another boat out there!! Nice fish though!! S.
  18. I'm pretty sure you need a guide to fish down there. I did where I was anyways. We were on the mayan riviera. S.
  19. We're talking ice huts here guys.......
  20. The heavier and sharper the better. The rope on the end is also VERY important. Don't ask me how I know S.
  21. Get your mind outta the gutter!!!
  22. You can't beat merino wool. Its the best stuff for keeping you warm.......even if its wet. Its all I wear on my hands and feet on the ice. S.
  23. Yeah, its pretty much the same as the quickflip 2. I had one (gave it to my old man). Its a decent hut, but a chore to pull by hand. Behind a machine its a thing of beauty. I had mine for 4 seasons, and its still going. I hope they changed the window system though, if you werent careful, they would break on you when taking it down. (eskimo replaced mine for free twice) Make sure and get the cover, its worth its weight in gold. Easy to set up by yourself, even in a good wind. I rubbed wax on my poles, it made it that much easier to extend them. Put runners on the sled, it really saves it. Good hut all around, I liked mine. S.
