  1. Find a danforth type anchor, and put 6ft of heavy chain before the anchor. The anchor your using is a navy type, and it will hold 100% better with a length of chain attached to it as well. If you want to use what you have, put your smaller anchor about 6ft ahead of your bigger one. The pull from the wind/waves will pull on the smaller anchor, but keep the bigger one laying flat on bottom. They will hold better on one rope, then if you have two separate ropes. The key is to keep your anchor laying flat on bottom so it digs in. If your rope is pulling directly on the anchor, it won't set into the bottom, and you'll keep drifting. Make sure you've got lots of rope too. The wind sucks! I've been waiting for almost a week for better conditions to get out there myself. This coming week looks much better........for now!! I use a 20lb navy, with 8ft of heavy galvanized chain on it. IF that doesn't hold me, I don't want to be out there anyways. S.
  2. Now that is a great adventure!! Fish are always secondary on a trip like that, but man, you did well on the trout too!! I fished my go to speck lakes the same week, and let me tell ya, your right about the tough bite. Those winds pissed me off to no end too We managed a few fish, but nothing like it should have been. Any bugs up there yet?? We had bugs, but they weren't really biting yet. The wind really helped us in that department!! Glad ya's got in and out safely, and with some great pics! S.
  3. You can't go wrong in green weeds. Find the deeper edges and work them slow. S.
  4. I wish there were more reports like that, here! Nicely done! I've had similar results with the fishing around here lately. This weather sure doesn't help!!!! S.
  5. I adapted and fished a smaller, out of the way lake instead of the bigger kawartha lakes. Spent 8 hours out in the rain/hail/sleet/snow/wind and caught my 4 walleye. I had to use bait to get them, but they tasted just the same I released one under the slot, and caught an OOS musky about 32" as well!! I'll be the first to admit, it sucked out there, and I was wet and cold by the time I came off the water. I shoulda wore my floater suit.......BRRRRRRRRRRR!!! It stopped raining for about 15 mins the whole time I was out. It was worth it though S.
  6. I'm praying!! I'm gonna giver, screw it. I have rain gear, and a float suit if I need it. I'm sure the fishing will be tough, but its tradition EH! The boat is already hooked up S.
  7. Nothing that is any good, is cheap these days. IMO, spending your hard earned cake on fishing/hunting is the only way to go!! Just think of all the beer you'll drink trying to fill all the tags OH yeah, you forgot a few more tags/licenses in there too. You can at least double what you've already paid. S.
  8. I just use the snap swivel too. It works fine, but you don't really know what depth its running. For a fixed cheater, you half hitch a small rubber band to your mainline, then thru the swivel when you snap it on your mainline. That way you know what depth its at, and when a fish hits, the rubber band breaks, and the swivel slides to your mainline swivel. Works great. Does that make sense ? S.
  9. Hey Shaun, no pumps at snug. They're gone for good. Wind sucks. I've been battling it all week. It sucks when you get crap weather on your annual week off, but ya just make the best of it! S.
  10. I hope you got some bear tags!! S.
  11. Nice pic Phil! I think its the pink jig head myself! They really work, no matter how much I get picked on about them S.
  12. Its too bad your so far. Those old starcrafts are solid boats. I hope someone picks it up. If you were 1000km closer, I'd seriously consider it. S.
  13. Take a drive...........
  14. SF, I'm not saying duck hunters have more rights, we don't. I'm just saying its common courtesy to give us some space if your fishing. I thought you would understand that, and after reading this, I'm sure you do. I'd take ya out for some birds anytime. Now, after reading your story, I realize you've had a dealing with a couple freakin idiots, and I would have reported them too. I've had run ins with some real tools in my time on the water as well. I just keep on movin on. Its not because they have more rights, just for my own safety. No hard feelings dude. I was just a little shocked that you were that close to duck hunters while fishing, and then complained about them shooting. I misunderstood I guess. This post is getting off topic. Its not about race, colour or creed. If I saw a bunch of locals keeping over their limit, I'd report them too. Why is it that when poachers are mentioned, the race card gets played. Play by the freakin' rules and there are no problems. I see plenty of asians, germans, polish, ukrain, italian, even canadians.....etc. playing by the rules all the time. I'm not picking on any one race, just POACHERS!!! S.
  15. Have you ever fished for them there? They're in there. I'd fish closer to Hastings if I was targetting them though S.
  16. I use 50lb braid. I find it rips thru the weeds the best. The hits feel more violent on braid too I sometimes put a 12lb fluoro leader on it, but not always. S
  17. freakin right its my business!! I did call, and warned them what I was doing. They continued to fill the coolers. In fact, that is exactly what I did. I even offered to take them out in my boat to take a look. Nobody showed up. Smalliefisher, I'm surprised with your comments about the duck hunters. I honestly am. If I was you I would have got the hell out of there. Actually, I would NEVER have gotten that close to start with. You obviously knew they were hunting. I hate it when guys come fish within range of my 12 guage.........I will never understand that. I didn't get up at dark thirty, set up 10 dozen deocoys in the dark, and wait for sunrise to come, only to have a bass boat sit in front of my set up. I would have told you to move along if it was me hunting.........nicely of course. I think its common courtesy, isn't it? Would you have a picnic in the woods, under a guys treestand........while he's hunting out of it? Same scenario. Give us duck hunters a little space. We've already spent a couple hours setting up in the dark before you've even had your morning coffee. There is a lot of room on a lake to fish, and its a lot easier for you to move along than me with a pile of decoys to pull in first. BTW, There is no regulations about killing birds on the water, its totally legal. S.
  18. Ok, next time you go to harwood, walk out on the rocks to the first gap. Put on a sliding egg weight, with a big circle hook about 18" below that. Jam as many worms on that as you can and cast it out in the channel. To the east. Set your rod in a holder, and start waiting. From shore, that's as good a spot as any for a shot at a cat or carp. If you think they're not there, its because your doing it wrong, because they are there. I"m no carp expert, but I think I'd use corn or something for them?? You'll have to ask someone else about them, I've never tried to catch one. You'll get cats though, that I"m sure of. P.S. your welcome S.
  19. I'm not sure myself. Somewhere around '02-'03. I coudn't even turn a cmputer on until then LOL. I wonder who the first ten members were? S.
  20. I thought the title said "Fishing Model Photography"
  21. I'd go to harwood and fish off the old railway. If that doesn't work out for ya, you can then hit gores and Bewdley on your way back home. S.
  22. This has nothing to do with race/colour/creed, so lets not go there. A poacher is a poacher........period. I don't care if your white, yellow or blue, if your keeping well over your limit within eyesight of me, I'm going to say something, then call the apropriate people. Calling the cops is a tough one when said people are in a boat. I'd offer to take the cops out for a boat ride, but I don't think they'd be allowed to accept it. Most police don't know the regs anyways.......... My camera and a cell phone are the only weapons I have, and neither of them seem to get anything done. S.
  23. IMO, you need to do something in order to have safe drinking water. Its going to cost you some $, but your property/home is not worth much with a non-potable water source. Talk to your local conservation authority's water resources engineer, they may have some input. There could also be grants available to help fund it. Your actually contaminating that aquifer by doing what you've done. That well should be decomissioned, and filled. The home springs system I mentioned above will run you about 5 grand, but it will make pure water, from any source. I've been running one for just over a year. It was a great investment IMO. Well worth the $ to keep my family safe. Again, be very careful going down that well. I wouldn't do it myself unless I had the proper safety gear, and someone above that is able to get you out, should anything happen. Lots of people die every year going down holes like that, its not to be taken lightly. s.
  24. Be careful going down that well Ryan. You never know what kind of fumes are down there. That casing doesn't look too sturdy either. I know a guy who went down his well, and never came back up. As for water filters, check out home springs. Their pricey, but they work amazing. S.
