  1. I don't know of any self charging batteries.....if you know of some, please let me know LOL Get the biggest DEEP CYCLE you can afford, then get a good DEEP CYCLE charger, and you will be fine. S.
  2. Well, I didn't think we were comparing the kawartha's to the Larry. That's apples and oranges. Scugog has some good muskies....for the kawartha's. It wouldn't be my first pick of lakes around here, and I would launch on the east side of the lake if you can. S.
  3. Yup Catches everything. S.
  4. Best advice I can give is to get the bigggest deep cycle battery you can afford, and a deep cycle battery charger. The motor is the easy part, the battery is the key. S.
  5. I can only assume you haven't fished it much? Scugog has some of the biggest musky in the kawartha's IMO. I've spend the last 25 years fishing the kawartha's for musky, and my three biggest are out of the bog. I troll deep weed edges this time of year. Anything will work, any colour too...as long as its black and orange Where you launching?? S.
  6. Just remember to shorten your leaders on a flasher fly, from the dipsy, so from the dipsy to the hooks is a rod length. A spoon leader will be longer than a flasher leader. Makes netting easier when the line from dipsy is a rod length to the hooks. S.
  7. Check the hub on the prop. I had one like that that did the same thing, and the hub was spun out of the prop. At high speeds, the engine would rev, but the prop wasn't spinning. It was Ok at low speed. S.
  8. Nice....does it catch more fish??
  9. What do you consider a long time? I've only seen them the past 3 years. This year should be the peak. It will have an effect on the lake, for sure. I know the perch are full of them...the smallies should be too. I've been getting perch in different spots than usual this season, all due to gobies. S.
  10. Good stuff, Erik! GREAT to see you out on the water! Glad ya got into a few musky, as I know you like them, just too bad the walleyes didn't want to play nice! It happens...I'm sure you guys had a great time, regardless! Thanks for the report! S.
  11. Ya, you have nothing to worry about. They're pretty tough. S.
  12. I use my 4" rap more than any others. I have a few of them. I find the rapala knives with the black blades are the best for holding an edge, but they're all easy to sharpen. Get a good steel, and you will never have a dull knife. Use it every time you use the knife and it will stay razor sharp. I have a set of rapala's I use for fish only, a set for game only, and a set in the kitchen that we use every day for all sorts of things. Ya can't get a better blade for the money IMO. S.
  13. the presidents are a great reel for the money for sure! S.
  14. Or at least wire two together in 12V for the trolling motor. S.
  15. Good stuff, Bunk!! Nice to see Mr. Zebco joining in the fun too! Always smiling, that lad! S.
  16. I never listen to music on the water.....I find it disruptive. On shore is a different story. S.
  17. Could also just be junk in the water......bugs or plankton kinda things or something. Definitely turn down sensitivity and surface clutter. S.
  18. The cavitation plate should be within an inch of the bottom of the hull. Usually, the "pee" water is just extra over flow, or an indicator that your water pump is working. Most of the hot water, that is used to cool, should be coming out of your prop, or exaust ports on the back of the engine. As long as you have water coming out there, you should be fine. Does the "pee" water get hot? It shouldn't on most engines. It is odd that you have flow at low rpms, and not high though....weird. S.
  19. My CT charger is also specifically made for charging deep cycles. Works great. I also have two true deep cycle nautilus batteries that have been going good for 4 seasons now. I need to replace them soon, but I think I can get the rest of this season out of them. I use mine primarily for slow trolling walleyes, so they get used a lot, and are usually drained when I'm done a day of trolling. I can get about 6-8hrs on them though, depending on wind/conditions. S.
  20. Mine get charged at 10A most of the time.....when they're really low. When they're not so beat, I charge them on 2A. Get a decent charger, its worth it. Best way is the onboard 2 bank. Just plug it in and your done. S.
  21. If I was to remove a hook from a crank, it would always be the tail hook. Any predator goes for the head when they attack, and 99% of fish on cranks are on the front hook! S.
  22. Good read. My old man always told me to be ready for the worst at all times. Stuff happens fast, and always when you least expect it. I try my best to be prepared for the worst at all times, and never take any chances. Thanks for posting that. Its an eye opener for sure. S.
  23. A buddy of mine bought a pair about a month ago, just like yours, for $200. Cables, swivel mounts, cannonballs, releases, and power wires included. We haven't installed them yet, so can't say how well they work. S.
  24. My ducer comes right off for duck season! Been there, done that.....it gets expensive quick S.
  25. Get a razor and cut it out. No big deal. That's all the plastic surgeon is going to do anyways! You will save your time for fishing, and also save the time of the doctors and patients who really need treatment for something more serious. Geeze...its no worse than a sliver! S.
