  1. tight spot, if all you said was true you are in the right, hope your good deeds help you with good karma. Just a suggestion, you have helped this guy out with the gas and friendship, and the fishing. Give him his tackle back, it is only money. Everything in life happens for a reason, you seem like a good guy, be true to yourself. If your asking this question it is to relieve some guilt. I would not blame you if you did keep his stuff. You got stiffed. But If you were really worried about the money, you would not have taken him the 4 times, you would have stopped after the first. Mabey he did not know how you felt till you held on to his equipment or mabey he figured you were going anyway. We all make mistakes, somthing good will come from giving his combo back, trust me. Good friends are rare, this guy seems like a good friend that goofed up. For the original question (was I out of line) the answer is no. I am just trying help you reason with the crappy situation. I hope you find work, if you are looking, If it just about the money talk to the guy he might surprise you. I have some rods that have a ton of setamental and superstisious value to them, it just seem wrong to me. good luck and try no to let this fester I have seen good thing go so bad over a couple hundred dollars. seems silly after the fact. Just so you know I am in dept and put my workboats on one foot at a time every day because I have to. Just so you know where this is coming from.
  2. Hint go to smaller hooks I am a fellow minnow lover, I tie 3 hooks on a line using polimer knots, Unless I get tiny pinheads, I rip my minnows in two. They will generally suck in the hook and the small minnow so you can set when you get a tap. If you use a bigger minnow they alot of times bite and only look like there smoking the minnow. When this happens you miss half the hook ups and lose alot of bait. Somtime they will only hit on live minnows but they some time will hit on a little chunk of worm, minimal rebaiting. There is a bunch of excellent video on u tube type in underwater camera video perch.
  3. I am planning on a new purchas, of an underwater camera, this is the one I am leanig towards. under 600, Used a mercum yesterday I think ice fishing with a camera is just so much more enjoyable. I found that the one I was using was hard to see in daylight, is that normal or are there better units for this application, It was great in the hut though. I will probally mount a tv in my perminate hut will this unit have a vidoe out option, and has anyone done that.. how long do the batteries last, and with a lot of snow covereage how much light do u need, can u fish with this unit after dark. Has any one bought one of these and used it for a while and thought it was a apin or a waste of money. Any and all feedback will go a long way in prying my wife's purse open lol.
  4. I love my clam, single person flip up insulated top, comfortable chair, all day fishing. I don't have sled and I can easily drag this thinkg all over the lake. I sold 2 ht 2 pearson hut I loved the room but it severly limited the distance I could fish. Insulated top is the only wat to go. The less space you have the less you carry. It's a little tight after 8 hrs of fishing though. definatly recomend you look at these.
  5. I am also an AUk from way back, what course did you take
  6. cool but do they catch fish, I mean compared to live bait
  7. That sucks, I have run into alot of decent cops in my past, but it just takes one like that to make you hate them all. only you can say weather a days pay is worth it, but I would fight that to the bitter end. Does any one know if it goes against the cops record, when you get off. Well mabey after I slept on it I would let it go pay the fine and hope that Karma bited her in the ass. Now im pissed. hope this helped. lol
  8. Ya I am pretty sure there are at a store in Belleville, goggle quinte ice fishing team, they may even be sponsored by them now. They will know where to get them.. I had no issue with sizing, they asked me like 5 measurements, it fit perfect. It was shipped on the day they said it would be. I was leary as well but no problems
  9. I have two sets, I run with braid in any water deeper than 25 ft, If I am fishing eyes in 15ft or greater braid is good for the light bite, it definately is the way to go. I love braid for deep water simcoe whities. Ice fishing I would not run any less than 6lb mono. There is alot of edges you can catch, four just breaks to easily in the cold. Any other type of ice fishing I run mono. Even with the braid, I transfer to 6 or 8 ft of floural carbon off of a ball swivel. All rods even mono I tie in a ball swivel, it prevent the line twists that seem to be amplified by the cold, jigginh with a tube jug, twist your line so bad that it is unusable after 20 min. Other lures jigging do the same thing, the swivel lets cold hand stay in the gloves and not retieing or untangling. If you do re spool your line with mono run your reel under hot tap water for a minute, it will set a memory to your line so that it does not puke off your reel. good luck.
  10. I actually had to order mine throug the states years ago, now I hear there in canada but I dont know where. I would call Jeff or Paul from Quite ice fishing team, they are the guys who put me on to these suits. They will now where to get them. There in Belleville. I use mine for musky fishing right from sept till december. I beat it up and still no holes.
  11. I run with the Artic Armor, absolutly love it. 2 peice, you can use it warm or cold they breath duriable can't say enough good about it. I went thru the Ice on quinte down strean the bridge, last march, It sealed up around my legs I did not have my top on and it bobbed me up like a pencil in a glass of water, I could feel the current pulling me under, this suit saved my life, I am sure a survival suit would of been good as well, but there was no bulky floatation,I had no problem getting out. Not coastguard approved, in canada, at least they were not when I bought them 5 years ago. Oh yea after I fell through the bottom of my arms were the only things that got wet I fished the rest of the morning the kissed the ground when i got in.
  12. Ya it is the first time here and Inow live in chemmy, I bailed ond fishing and decided to help a fellow out on his hut instead on sat, but the smorning I went out to whitewater lake instead of the long 15 min drive to suds and lets just say the eye's and a pike are cooking had a great few hours of fishing and will be going back there tonight, But I plan to fish cpr bay again one night this week unless you think I should spend my time by the launch ramp. Please let me know and thanks for the reply.
  13. Ya funny but the new clam huts have insulated the tops of there huts, My old portable would be dripping on me all day the new clam is noticably different, the walls still get wet and you have to dry them out between outings but the day is way more enjoyable with tho tops insulated. well worth the money.
  14. I totaly agree time is of the essance. How ever i have found a few simple questions to as many people on any lake you will see a pattern, ie particular colours particular depths, times. It is amazing how one lake can differ from another. three simple questions can save years and lots of wasted money. scratch that when it's fishing it not about the money. Alot of times I will sneek out friday's to figure out a spot so that sat I can take the kids on sat. I like to know what I am doing so that the kids can catch a fish or two, there yound but there getting addicted. This place is perfect big tobaganing hill and a short walk, all I nee to do is figure out the fishing. perfect day.
  15. I have used that finder for 16 hours over a 3 day weekend on Quinte and did not lose power. I agree it is a great unit. A couple thing as food for thought, I buggered my zipper, because I was going from hole to hole and splashed water in the zipper and it froze, at the end of the day I tried to close it and now no zipper. Another thin is to watch the cord where it goes into the transducer and back of the unit. I looped them and tapped the loop so that ir it gets tugged by fish or what ever it won't seperate the insulation from the wire where it is connected. Hit menu sensitivity is in the top take off auto and crank er up, I fished whities in 100 plus in simcoe and still awesome. Don't get rid of the camera just yet though, I am buying one just to find out what species is nibbling and not biting. The finder cant tell you that.
  16. I talked to a few people today about where to fish, took there advice got scunked, lake number 7 for my quest to hit all the lakes in the sudbury area was dissapointing. I will go back because I can"t leave that lake a skunk. Generally I will ice fish eye's from 2 to 18 ft of water, today I set up where 3 people agreed was a good spot just off somerset road by cbr bay or whatever it is called, I drilled holes where people have drilled before, to find 30 ft, I fished it and 1 hit so I drilled a line of holes to the shore, 20 feet off the shore to find 20 ft of water. Fished here one hit, only saw two fish on the finder. Now my questions are what depth is productive. What time is productive and is this area a decent area. Was any one else fishing today was it just an off day? Still was a great day and that lake just looks awesome, but it seems deep and like there are thousands of decent area's to fish, I honestly think a person could fish a lifetime and not learn that lake entirely. If you worked on learnig that lake, I would love the advice. I plan to fish it again tommorrow.
  17. penache is a good lake for lakeres but the ice is supper thin in spot, did around ten fish you can only keep 2 in about an hour, you gotta know the spot I Had a local guy take me out it was silly. White tube jig heavily weighted tippes with a shiner not a dace. Lakers very tasty. Put a treble hook in the snap of the swivel I did not do this but it works for eyes for hook ups. I missed alot, find a local guy on any lake to shoe you the way. I am new to the area and not a guide yet so I cant offer much more. I have hit 6 of the 330 lake in the greater sudbury district, I have got fish on all of the not every time but these lake all have fish. good luck pm me if you want to fish when your up here. Im going to ramsey tommorrow, lake number 7
  18. mr buddy is good and you can flip the cage at the front to cook on it, how ever the damn thing is always shutting off. I would go with the five pound tank the green coleman are too expensive, you can also go tho the plumbing isle at canadian tire and they have blue propane tanks, whick are Identical but are cheaper. i\d give 6 out of ten for convience, but the sunflower which I own , constand heat down to a t shirt and you can also cook on it. is by far suppior, there are some flaws though, the thin copper tube snapped off about my thirrd trip buddy threw his bag on it that was it. It also near killed three of us, did not realise how close we were until a buddy tried to light his smoke and his lighter would not lite, not enough oxygen to lite a flame. I run with my buddy now it pisses me off but the other is broken and I know I won;t die. sunflower is better in my opinion, just don't go to sleep.
  19. My parents stayed there on a little island a couple of years back they tried to get me to go they were baiting me with a bunch of fish pictures, they had some big ones, what they were I don't know. They said alot of big barricuda when snorkling, they also said they were fear less the cuda would swim right up face to face. I skype them once a week they are in mexico right now, but pm me if you want any additional info I could ask them but be specific, and I will do the best that I can. They absolutly loved it there That I know. enjoy your trip.
  20. I don't know if this will help, but I have fished scugog annually with good results. Each year is different. But you could try off of mclarens beach a little towards the left in around 7 feet of water. Don't go all day just be set up at 4 pm the bite usually happens just befor dark or just at dark. try an prop jig, I like the glow in the dark ones, tiped with a 2 to 3 inch dace minnow, you should use a cheater, but it always pisses me off because it tangles. I still catch ok but you will miss a couple always. 2 foot lifts and the jig will fall on it own pace, if you can hit bottom without weeding up make sure you do three bottom hits then just off bottom for the next few pause for a bit every now and again, if you have a sonar, slow twitching minimal when you see one on the screen gently raise the fish up off the bottom, if he fallows raisd him up around 3 feet the dead stick and wait for the hit. Gorskies is another good spot to go , go past the big boat on the left out to the lake just past the point look left, go straight across the lake almost to the other side, in about 7 ft of water, same time everytime. Use your second rod with just a small split shot and a single hook, hook the dace minnow in the tail area between the ass and the tail fin. The minnow has to stay alive. When you first get there add a cup of water from the lake every 15 to 20 minutes to your minnow pail so they get used to the colder water. I keep my minnows in a cooler it stops them from freezing and temp changes are minimum. Make sure your minnow is lively from 4:30 on.your minnow rod should be around half way down ie if your in 7 ft of water, put your minnow so that it is 3.5 ft down. Alot of people make the mistake of huggin the bottom on scugog there is alot of weeds and most bury the minnow in the weeds. What happens the eye's and crappie will travel from the deep to the shallow waters to feed at dusk. So they are crusing, dont drill any holes after 4 stay quiet and try to get away from other people. they will cruise in mid column. Have a couple extra rods baited and waiting in your minnow pail, the second you get one out drop in the new baited one don't dick around don't even take the fish off the hook, just get the next line in the water. The longest bite I have ever experienced is 25 min. Most are done in 15 minutes. I have limited out 2 people in that time. But you got to be luckey and be in their path. First ice is usually the best, and tapers off dramatically by the end of the month. good luck and post me when this works for you...it will
