  1. This one will be a while for me to beat. It's definitely the heaviest rainbow I have ever caught.

  2. I often feel that I don't have the "go to lure" when times get slow. That's the best time to get back to simple and do what you know works. A plain little grub on a jig head just dragging the bottom does wonders at times. Two extremes from a slow day both on the same little grub. I also tagged a perch a pile of smallmouth two largemouth bass and a lake trout with this little lure.

  3. WOW WOW WOW What a deal I got on these new winter waders. They are basically hunting waders, but they will work for river fishing. Got them at the online auction here in Barrie. I always look on amazon, so I know what retail price is. I always set a price I will pay and wait til the final day . If I want something bad enough,I will compete bid . These I did not have to. I set a price at $75 and won them. Retail is $275 . I can not wait to wear these in the cold waters. They are quilted inside. They are so warm and soft . Boots are lined like a slipper . Cleated as well. Extra wear material on the butt and legs. Breathable . 6 days off coming up,so I will get to try them out.

  4. Once upon a time when I was a working stiff and did not have a lot of time off, fall meant steelheading, bow-hunting and duck hunting. You can't really do all three, at least not in any reasonable way. First to go was duck hunting, then steelheading. I had a really good run of fall steelheading, but could still do that in the spring, so I did. And I had a heck of a run with the bow, probably forty deer or so. Maybe more, I lost track........ Now I am a retired old fart, and can do whatever I want. And I hardly do ANY of those things any more!!! So enjoy it while you are fairly young and vigorous! Doug

  5. We stayed with Tony and his wife in one of there cabins about seven years ago, best pike fishing on top water baits i have ever experienced and fantastic service. We shall return when time permits. P.s the complimentary bottle of lost lake red was also excellent.

  6. Such a great tactic for this time of year. I was slaying them last weekend with a 3inch tube on a Ned rig dragging the bottom. The slower the better this time of year!

  10. Where do you live? St Catharines area has some of the best action every year from mid April to late May. Spoonpullers is great so is Lake Ontario United Grimsby Tackle periodically has free seminars in store & via Zoom and a You Tube channel. Joining a local club is a great idea too for learning and networking ( St Catharines Game and Fish Association, Strait Line Anglers, Halton Region Salmon And Trout Association, Port Credit Salmon and Trout Association, Metro East Anglers etc)

  11. I suggest your FIRST step is learning how to run a boat safely. For sure there will be a chapter of the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron somewhere near you: https://www.cps-ecp.ca/about/ Once you can trailer your boat from your house to the launch safely, and then launch, operate, and recover your boat safely, then I suggest is the time to look into the fishing part. And it's not rocket science. Of course, the REALLY successful anglers do have a tonne of knowledge, experience, etc, not to mention gear, but to get started (in my own experience anyways) you don't have to own the best of anything, just some gear that works for you. I am going to send you a pm, and you can respond if you are interested. Doug
