  2. Until my summers got filled up with tournaments, we used to make at least one trip north and did try a bunch of smaller bodies of water. I used to cartop a Coleman Crawdad back in those days and could launch it anywhere I could launch a canoe! We had some good days for numbers but never ever did find anything with giants in it!

  3. Chatting with my buddy Colin the other night when the topic of our first "backcountry" canoe trip came up After so many laughs I thought - this is a post that I need to write I am not sure which of us coined the title "The Citiots Take Algonquin Park" but since I wrote it and its my site I am taking credit lol Here is the link https://www.northernjacks.com/post/the-citiots-take-algonquin-park Cheers Andrew

  4. Another Great Lake transplant from the south. Hydra Sports 1800cc with a Mariner 150 both 1989 from Fla. Great little fishing boat that will handle more wave than most guests can take:)

  5. Smallies are everywhere. Walleyes/Pickerel will always be taken with a jig and worm in that area. I've used 30 lb braid with a flouro leader the last few years and it's made a big difference. The fishing is still fantastic up there. You won't likely be traveling up to Nip so i would look for deeper weedlines. The closer you get to the lake, the deeper the water. You'll be constantly taking the weeks off the jig but that's where the fish are. Try to search my older posts and you'll see what's waiting for you. Never had night fog up there.

  6. Used to fish Dokis down the dam. For walleye worm harnesses produced best results. jigging with live bait is great as well but you have to find eyes in numbers. For bass - senkos or any swimbaits. You are correct - rocks are everywhere. Go with trolling motor or slow speed until you feel comfortable.

  7. Dangnabit it was a crispy morning. Arrived in Fergus 5:30 this morning to fish the Grand and it was well,,, Was a very refreshing fish this morning, but a fish would of been a real nice bonus, but I got to get more practice in. All good. The ole stogie was smoking away this morning. LOL And NO, I am not getting the hair cut. I can live with it.LOL Great seeing you again Brad. Will try and meet up in the fall again.

  8. We will be crying for that cool weather come later this week. Bass opener is going to be a scorcher. I’m shaving the quarantine beard for it, no way In hell in wearing the sun buff with this big of facial hair lol

  9. Since the weather forecast was a lot cooler for Sunday I thought it would be a good day to smoke a beef brisket. Here's it is, kosher salt and pepper rub with a small amount of bbq powder all held on using a mustard glue. I used a mix of apple and mesquite wood over charcoal. About 8 hours start to finish including 2.5 hours wrapped to beat the thermal stall. I let it rest for another 1.5 hours until the temp was down to about 140F. The bark was still fairly crunchy even though I wrapped it. Turned out great...man I love this stuff!

  10. I have done a few on my pontoon. I learned quick to wear nylon ladies stockings as these lakes have them blood sucking leeches. The socking keeps them off. I have found bass and perch, but that about it.

  13. Brian is always happy to help a fellow fisherman. I have a few pals that own Princecrafts. The only thing that isn't great in my mind is that the transoms are low in some models. Water splashes into the water wells more than others. So much so that one guy I know installed a 2nd bilge pump under the water well just for that. Other than that great boats. That 91' 680T Ranger of Tomcats is a beauty. And Arts Bass boat looks showroom new, I wouldn't expect anything less.

  14. absolutely! Hit a bunch of spots in the Parry Sound area and caught lots of pike and largemouth. Did the same when I lived in Barrie...found all kinds of ponds, some only an acre or two....some had pike stretching to 40 inches! I knew of a pond where I had caught a beaut...then saw the ponds being filled in! Tried my best to catch him again to relocate him to the pond across the street. Actually had him on again but unfortunately lost him...poor bugger didn't know I was trying to help him. Next thing I knew the pond had been filled in...big pikey was just fertilizer now
