  1. When I was young, my Dad bought an older, full size Pontiac station wagon to use for banging our way into back lakes, lol. It had a 350, four barrel. I remember he liked getting his foot into it on the road and hearing the roar. The floor was rusted with holes, so we had to keep the windows cracked for the fumes from the beat up, loud exhaust hanging from coat hangers. There was 2x4s on the roof to carry the boat. It became "the bass buggy". It had a gold bass hood ornament, stickers on the doors and "kiss my bass" on the lift gate. I wish I had pictures, good times.

  2. With the bit of snow we had on the weekend I was able to get Sally out to the back lot here at the shop. Driving through foot + deep snow banks wasn't an issue. Then I tried climbing a 3-4 foot pile that the snow plow left. Got 3/4 the way over and the now wet tires started to spin inside the tracks. So back to the drawing board and came up with these cleats. One side is about an 1/8 inch down to grab onto the tire. The other side is about a 1/4 inch to dig into the ice. Had a few minutes to put the chains on the quad; so it's read to go as the back up vehicle if Sally craps out? We're going to look like the Nipissing Hillbillies have come to town. LOL Even Rosco my basset hound is ready to go; but my wife says I can't take him with? Dan.

  3. Hi all, Managing to grab short sessions early and late recently. I got out just before sunrise last week, stunning scenery and a few fish, great start to the day.

  4. Heading out tomorrow morning for Nipissing. All loaded up, fueled up and crossing fingers that we're ready to go? Also hoping that the MTO has a bit of forgiveness. Maximum width is a 102 inches, the trailer is legal but the skies of the bobsled measure 109". Oops officer I didn't realize , I had 7 more inches then I thought I had? (I could only wish) LOL Anyway we're off later tonight and will let the cards fall where they will. Dan.

  5. Yes I knew that but it was a good excuse to buy a new truck LOL I also didn't like the single axle trailer that came with the boat so I had a custom 2 axle trailer built in Michigan and it made a huge difference in the towing.

  6. Lew you could move that boat 1-2 inches back taking amazing amount of tongue weight off.

  7. Perch fishing the Talbot river. It used to be a regular occurrence for a mink to come up to you and check out what you where throwing in the white bucket. We feed the critters and birds at the cottage but this winter we had a first. Looked out to see if I needed to top up our treats on the porch and right outside the window was a fox eating peanuts, shell and all. We fish a marina on Simcoe in the spring and fall for perch and crappies. Lotsa friendly geese and ducks around so I'm sure the boaters feed them throughout there summer season. One time in the fall, some ducks swam over to my boat while we where taking a break and eating our lunch. One duck beside the boat jumped up out of the water and sat on the middle bench and just stared at us until my buddy gave him a chunk of bread from his sandwich. He ate it and asked for more, so he got some of my sandwich too before he jumped back in the water with his jealous friends. However my favourite is feeding a Blue Heron and a Osprey while I'm bluegill shore fishing at the cottage. The osprey will sit in a tree behind me and if I get a small gill I step on it to kill it and then throw it way up in the air. By the end of the summer it will have the routine down and will be flying before I throw the fish so it grabs it in the air before it lands in the water. Same with the Heron.Kill a small gill or perch and throw it to him on shore. I think the same Heron comes to me every summer because he is very territorial and loudly and aggressively chases away any of the other 2-4 Herons that are watching us. As the summer wears on the Heron gets tamer as well. Some years by the fall as soon as I show up at my shore spot he will just fly over and stand right beside me waiting for his free breakfast.

  8. I bought a new boat in '09 and the tongue weight was just a bit too much and the engine didn't really have the power to pull that heavy boat for long distances so I decided to get rid of it. I've been driving those yuppie trucks ever since LOL

  10. All we've ever used is an auger in the corners. Amazing how fast you can pump water and great if you have someone on skates with a squeegy broom to move it while you run the auger.
