Hey folks,

This appears to be a bear.  Look at the other critters - I believe all racoons, but can't be sure.. Thoughts?

Thanks

I don't see a bear.  But possible a big momma raccoon and a few kits..   momma's can get pretty big.  Unless there's a light back drop bears are incredibly hard to see.

You're looking at the animal on the right side of the frame right?

Carrots.

if you look at the other coons they are much smaller.  Look at that animal in relation to the tree.

that's one BIG momma if it is a coon.   Might be climbing so looks bigger? I have other pics just before and after if you want me to add.

This is a simcoe forest I hunt.   It's just west of Thornton.  I've heard of bears in there and the Nottawasaga runs through this property so not surprised if it is indeed a bear.  In the 15 years I've hunted there, I've not seen one, either in person or on a cam.

PICT0041.JPG.be818a3ad0fc46361380f2d32cb600d3.JPGMy bet is big raccoon for sure, head is too small for bear and the colour is a dead give away. I've seen lots of bear cubs up close and they are always black. Plus by this time of year cubs would be much larger than that. Here's a pic from Aug 22, you can add at least another 10lbs two months later with the fall pig out.

That is not a bear. There is nothing about it that  indicates it being one. Racoon yes, they can weigh over 40lbs, especially in the fall as they don't hibernate.

They may not hibernate, but same as bears they go into a state of torpor. Soon as it gets cold out I stop seeing coons around the bird feeders here, but I've had bears at my deer feeders in December.
