I was reading the ministry docs on Doe recently. It's interesting that yiu bring up the pumpkinseed because the ministry report said it has very large pumpkinseeds.  In fact it mentioned that they caught in their trapnets one of the largest ever recorded out of doe. I wonder what it is about that lake? 
 

If I had a choice of cottage lakes to buy on, Doe lake would be right up there.  There are relatively very few cottages on it and not many, if any, of the flashy/showy cottages that you see in Muskoka and kawartha lakes. Even Haliburton lakes are getting overrun with those gaudy things.  Large stretches of shoreline that isn't developed too.

Thank you Cast Away!   I am assuming that an older Johnson is something he would  fix too? I'll look him up. and have a chat with him.

I haven’t used him in about 5 years but 
Paul is as good as they come that why most days there are many tournament bass boats lined up to get fixed

but he is super busy all season long

Read the reviews... this one guy wasn't a fan! "Owner is known for switching parts from one customers engine to another. Doesn't have merc diagnostics either. He is the true MacGyver of the industry. Stay away"

Who knows.. maybe his competition!  But this is the problem with Google reviews... they can't be trusted always.. I'll trust Terry on this one.

Suggestion

 

get a propane torch turn the gas on don’t light it run the nozzle around all your fuel lines next to the carb not the throat with the engine running if you have a suction leak somewhere the propane will make the motor rev higher  don’t worry you won’t blow up

check that your fuel tank is venting 

if it’s an old fuel line from the tank spending the money and buy a new one I don’t think your issue is worth taking to a shop check the idle setting as well it sounds like an easy fix

and throw some SEAFOAM in with your gas

I'n more concerned about the lower unit, which is shot.  See above pics!  Finding a lower unit has so far proven futile.

That end plate you may have more luck getting that and a couple of seals run the serial number on line for the motor find the name of that plate and chase that number and the seals do you actually still have a visible anode on your lower unit it should be around the cavitation plate somewhere held by I or 2 bolts 

better yet give me the make model hp and serial number and I will look for you right at the moment I don’t think you need a full lower

Very nice if you to look into this for me! Have you seen the pic I posted earlier in this thread? I'll re-post.. you still think this is salvageable?  It's corroded badly:

Paul kryskow is an interesting character.

hes excellent at what he does, he’s just very poor at customer service, and that’s the nature of the beast. He’s a mechanic, not a dealership.

Will he fix your problems, and find a way to get your problem solved at a reasonable price even if it’s weird stuff where you need parts from another motor? Yes the guy practically has an outboard junkyard at his disposal. 

will you know what the hell is going on, or when you’re boat will be fixed by? Typically no lol

So, you don’t go to kryskow if you’re intent is to just slap a new lower end on a boat, do that yourself. 
 

however, if your lower end explodes and your looking to find a used housing and to get it rebuilt for an older motor, he’s your guy.

he found one that fit my old Yamaha totally rebuilt it for me and it was 30% of the cost of a new one. Problem in my case is the water return wasn’t in the same spot because it was an 03 motor instead of an 06 and it caused issues for my particular set up, I ended up blowing my entire motor that same year. 
 

it’s not exactly Kryskow’s fault though, he doesn’t know my boat hull, prop to pad and how I’m running my set up.
