duke2555 Posted July 9 Report Posted July 9 Heading to Chandos Lake near Apsley ON, never fished the lake before and it looks like a HUGE lake! Any tips on where to fish for Small or Largemouth Bass would be appreciated. Top waters, chatterbaits/spinnerbaits good here? Thanks
BillM Posted July 9 Report Posted July 9 Find back bays with weeds via Google Maps, start there for largemouth. This will all depend on water temps as well. If you're seeing high 60's/low 70's I'd start shallow and move deep. Jerkbaits and spinnerbaits to start, slow down if you connect with nothing.
CrowMan Posted July 9 Report Posted July 9 Fished Chandos many times over the years. My uncle (since passed) had a cottage on Winter Bay. Good Smallie lake, and had some decent Lake Trout. Clear water...try Drop Shots and Ned Rigs in natural colours like Green Pumpkin around the offshore rocky reefs in the north end and the west arm.

Looks like the whole lake is a sanctuary from Dec 1 to mid May https://www.lioapplications.lrc.gov.on.ca/fishonline/Index.html?viewer=FishONLine.FishONLine&locale=en-CA&extent=-8690351.739567589%2C5585280.255103454%2C-8671242.482496321%2C5597586.61665735&layers=0vBHO%2F1aoGjj0OzgHB3B6Jhu30AslE&waterbody=18-2645-49676
AKRISONER Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 (edited) top water in low calm light at dawn and dusk or during cloud. During the afternoon, dropshots, ned rigs, whacky rigs or just good old dunking texas rigs on the deepest weed edges of the lake will produce. spinnerbaits around milfoil beds when the wind is up. or bladed jigs over the foil beds. cant go wrong flipping docks this time of year for buckets.
