sneak_e_pete Posted May 31, 2022 Report Posted May 31, 2022 Hi all, haven't been on here in forever, so first of all hello to everyone. I need some help. Started my Yamaha F20 this year and no water was "peeing out". I tried to clear any obstruction around the hole and nothing. I took the lower unit off and replaced the impeller (old one looked fine) and still nothing. When I start the motor, I can tell it is pumping because the water is being forced out through where the lower unit and top end join. The only thing I can think of is that the water pump housing is leaking? Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks in advance!
lew Posted May 31, 2022 Report Posted May 31, 2022 Could be a spider nest in the tube which is very common. Take a piece of stiff mono leader and push it into the hole and that will quite likely fix your issue. 3
BillM Posted May 31, 2022 Report Posted May 31, 2022 Thick mono or trimmer line up the pilot hole would be the first thing I do. 1
misfish Posted May 31, 2022 Report Posted May 31, 2022 What they both said. I had this a few times and it was always a wasp buried in it. 1
sneak_e_pete Posted May 31, 2022 Author Report Posted May 31, 2022 Will give that a try tonight. Thank you!
SlipperyVic Posted June 1, 2022 Report Posted June 1, 2022 My 30hp Johnson would constantly get a spider in the tube and I'd have to clear it out with a bottom bouncer. I started putting a golf tee into the tube every time I'm done with the boat and problem solved. 1
Rizzo Posted June 3, 2022 Report Posted June 3, 2022 some of these motors also have a thermostat. I thought I had a problem once because mine wasn't peeing out either...waited around 30 seconds and it started. That was in some cold conditions, gotta admit I was very nervous letting it run those 30 seconds! 1
rockin-steelhead Posted June 4, 2022 Report Posted June 4, 2022 (edited) As others have said could be thermostat think there is a way to test the impeller if pull the lower end and are able to turn the shaft at a good speed. Edited June 4, 2022 by rockin-steelhead
