Fisherman Posted December 8, 2020 Report Posted December 8, 2020 First time I've ever seen 2 that close together. Taken about 35M away with a 30x lens. 5
mamona Posted December 9, 2020 Report Posted December 9, 2020 Lovely photosMaybe they are planning to move in?
tomkat Posted December 9, 2020 Report Posted December 9, 2020 Nice looking birds. I see them the odd time in Bronte park and I’ve seen them down in Florida.
Fisherman Posted December 9, 2020 Author Report Posted December 9, 2020 I first saw them in the area about 6-7 years ago wondering what the racket was in the woods. When they get it in their head to make holes in trees, look out, the chips fly just about as fast as a chain saw.
smitty55 Posted December 10, 2020 Report Posted December 10, 2020 I'm not a fan of them on my little 1 acre of Lanark property, they do way too much damage. Had to take down a 14" maple beside my house after they did some major damage over the course of one day while I was at work. There was a good 20ft spread of wood chips on the driveway.
tomkat Posted December 10, 2020 Report Posted December 10, 2020 I’ve seen the damage they do to trees in the park, our house is stucco and for whatever reason the Downy woodpeckers like to peck at it.
Cando Posted December 13, 2020 Report Posted December 13, 2020 We have them at the cottage. They helped us out removing 2 tree stumps after we had to cut down 2 white birch trees. I took pics of it but they turned out blurry.
lew Posted December 15, 2020 Report Posted December 15, 2020 Beautiful birds and we're fortunate to have a few around here too, this fella is helping to remove a dead tree from my backyard. 2
mamona Posted December 16, 2020 Report Posted December 16, 2020 Lovely. Wondering how long he is going to be helping you.
