fisherman7 Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 Hi all, I bought a 14' boat, 15hp motor and trailer. What do I have to do to get these items registered? The trailer has plates already but there's no registration # on the boat. Thanks and well on my way to actually posting about fishing.
Tom McCutcheon Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 I am assuming this is used? Normally, the seller keeps the plate from the trailer and that portion of the ownership and then you need to then register it in your name with new plate. Anything over a 9.9 horsepower motor needs to be registered with Service Canada. They will then assign you a registration number which you can then put on the side of the boat. Keep your receipts. They may come back at you in a year or two for sales tax. You may also want to get separate receipts for the boat and motor and then the trailer.
G.mech Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 i think all the info you will need can be found here for the boat and trailer: http://boating.ncf.ca/license.html
Dutch01 Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 (edited) You may also want to get separate receipts for the boat and motor and then the trailer. ^^^ This. When you go to register your trailer, they will ask for a receipt. If your receipt is for a boat, motor and trailer, you will pay tax on the whole amount. If you a receipt for the trailer only you will pay less tax. Edited April 18, 2016 by Dutch01
Fisherman Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 And keep a copy of the receipt with you in the boat/tacklebox or dry box, it's your ownership. The registration is not considered ownership.
chris.brock Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 or, remove the 15 sticker from the outboard and replace it with a 9.9 sticker and you're done
dave524 Posted April 19, 2016 Report Posted April 19, 2016 or, remove the 15 sticker from the outboard and replace it with a 9.9 sticker and you're done Yeppers, most often the 9.9 and the 15 are the same engine, the 9.9 is just a detuned 15.
fisherman7 Posted April 19, 2016 Author Report Posted April 19, 2016 Yeppers, most often the 9.9 and the 15 are the same engine, the 9.9 is just a detuned 15. So where would you get a 9.9 sticker?
dave524 Posted April 19, 2016 Report Posted April 19, 2016 So where would you get a 9.9 sticker? Why outboarddecals dot com of course http://www.outboarddecals.com/
