Muskieman Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 A couple from North Bay FN capsized their boat on Lake Nipissing yesterday during the storm .. Mrs , managed a tough swim to an island , husband is still missing and presumed drown , search is underway . Terrible .
Rich Clemens Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 She can get nasty out there. Let's hope the man was able to get ashore somewhere and is OK
Headhunter Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 That lake can get ugly really fast! Hoping for a positive outcome... HH
Muskieman Posted August 26, 2013 Author Report Posted August 26, 2013 Nip can be a nasty lady , happens all too often , she sure has taken her share of lives ... Hoping for a good outcome , just might not be the case .
fishingwithbob Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 "A male body was located 26 August 2013 at approximately 9:30am by the Great Manitou Island."
Muskieman Posted August 26, 2013 Author Report Posted August 26, 2013 (edited) That's too bad , thoughts go out to the families ... Edited August 26, 2013 by Randy from Sturgeon
[email protected] Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 That is terrible!! "like glass one minute, 3 foots swells in a moment"...
Handlebarz Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 Very sorry to hear he did not make it.
Twocoda Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 smaller lakes have a tendency to have tighter waves (closer together) ...this is what causes so many problems...there isnt a bilge pump in the world that will keep up to a boat being swamped by a wave....but if someone reads this and it gets imbedded into their mind...it just may serve its purpose Very sad for the family
Muskieman Posted August 26, 2013 Author Report Posted August 26, 2013 http://westnipissingouest.com/2013/08/search-on-lake-nipissing-for-missing-boater/
davey buoy Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 So sad, what more can I say. I've seen Simcoe blow up in a hurry in my 12' boat.Too scary for me.Condolences to his wife.
Old Ironmaker Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 Very sad, deepest condolences. The man was from NB. I'm sure he was experienced. Which sometimes isn't enough.

Over 30 years ago 5 men from the same family lost their lives on the south shore west of Calendar. All experienced boaters that played the wrong card. Sad, unfortunately it will happen again.

I was safety checked recently by an OPP boat on Erie, they told me they found that same day 2 idiots in a canoe, no life jackets and 1 paddle drifting 5 miles from shore off of Nanticoke In the shipping lane!
Rod Caster Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 Very sad and my heart goes out to the family From what I understand, they were netting with new gear and the combination of weight (from fish and new nets) and weather was too much for their small boat. The man was wearing a lifejacket at the time but the waves were likely too powerful. Very sad; they are good people from a good family too.
Joeytier Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 The Manitous is a big run in any size boat...terrible story.
