Gregoire
After putting off getting a pleasure craft card for years I finally bit the bullet and want to take the test today at the fishing show. After no prep and taking 15 minutes to write the exam I ended up with a 35 out fo 50...not a pass. It turns out I saved money by not passing as it costs less to take the test online. I think I found out why. Now either module 1 is really tough, or the double chocolate stout that I am drinkng is more potent than I thought, but I am on my 4th attempt at module 1 and I keep doing worse. Being a teacher I am starting to feel for my students who do poorly on tests. I am at my witts end. Pretty soon I will stop forwarding and actually do the readings. Gregoire
Oh and 25 minutes to do the readings...even if I were to have to learn brail and read the pages it wouldn't take so long. By the time I can take the practice test I have forgotten everything...stupid ADD.

Roy
When I wrote mine I got 91%. That's 33 of 36 correct answers. I know that one answer was dead wrong and the other two were very debatable. The bottom line for me is that the card is necessary to drive a boat but it sure as heck doesn't make you a better boater. All of the accidents that you hear about these days..guess what, they all passed their boaters test. No folks, you can't legislate common sense. Oh, and guess what else..there's no central registry for that.

Gregoire
no witness needed for the boatsmart anymore...at least that is what I was told. If I am wrong I'll just use my girlfriend. I do not feel good about module
mercman
You can do it. Just let common sense take over your answers. 90% of the test is/was comon sense the rest was buoys and regulations.

NAW
No offence.. But how can you fail these tests. Get the book. read it a few times. Study!!! Then write the exam. No problem.?
DRIFTER_016
I did the test at The Spring Fishing show a million years ago now. I borrowed a copy of the book right there, did a 5 or 10 minute read through and got 33 out of 36. But I was a pretty good boater before hand. Y'all can call me Cap'n. Gregoire
I did not read the book beforehand. I am guessing that most people would not pass the module tests without studying. You need an 8/10 for each module before you can move on. On a positive I am done module
Gregoire
Failed module 4...I'm calling it a night. This test not relevant and overly detailed in it's nature.

adempsey
The whole process became more difficult with the changes they made last year. The exam is not as much of a joke as it used to be. Glad I got mine when I did.

registerfly
The whole process became more difficult with the changes they made last year. The exam is not as much of a joke as it used to be. Glad I got mine when I did. yes took me 3 tries to pass last spring. 50 questions and need 80%. Buddy who took it previously also felt it was much more difficult than his version. taking it online you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can even proceed to the next section, mandated so called apparently thinking you will study that much more prior. Roy
If you want to be getting anything at all out of it, the best way is to go to a Canadian Power and Sail Squadron near you and take the course. You'll learn a heck of a lot more than doing the multiple choice answers in the online tests.
Gregoire
Example of the most rediculous question yet: "what is the name of the white navigation light that shows in an unbroken light over an arc of 225 degrees dead ahead and 22.5 degrees abaft on both sides of the vessel"
