BucktownAngler Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 What is your fav Kawartha Lake (Zone 17) for walleye opener? Are you heading out Sat morning? Or are you gonna be out there midnight Fri night? What are your preferred methods?
asdve23rveavwa Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Would love to be on Scugog, but, the "fishing queen's" 40th birthday is Saturday, so b-day get together instead of fishing. Good luck to all who make it out
Harrison Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 I'll be on Rice with a jerk bait in one hand and a bucktail for rip jigg'n in the other. With no doubt, my arms and shoulders will be on fire by 3pm, samething every year....fish or no fish!
canadadude Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Rice lake ottanabee river, drifting big jigs with chubs or rapala ice fishing jigs #7
Michael_Brown Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 (edited) I will be at Rice Lake trying to give away over $69,000 in prizes. http://www.ricelakespringfishingfestival.ca/ The panfish bite was hot this past weekend and the walleye seem to be everywhere. This is going to be a very good weekend for fishing Rice Lake. Harrison bring some pain medicine, those big Rice Lake walleyes will try to rip your arms off if you keep jerking that bait. Find a weedline in 6-10 feet of water, throw a jig or crankbait and hold on. Edited May 10, 2011 by Michael Brown
Harrison Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 I hear ya Mike. Love Rice lake, my bro and I have done very well there over the years. Looking forward to a later bite.

fishindevil Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 either my home lake ....sturgeon,or maybe pigeon...depending on the final weather call...more to do with wind than anything.... cheers & tight lines on everyones opener...
jimmer Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Battle the boats on Pigeon Lake for the morning, then heading away from the water for the rest of the day. I find it quieter during the week following anyways.
BucktownAngler Posted May 12, 2011 Author Report Posted May 12, 2011 Where ever you guys go, bring your rain gear
ehg Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 So walleye will open in FMZ 17(Kawarthas) at midnght tonight. I would check the regs before going. There were new limits that started last year. Walleye have to be between 35-50 cm(13.8-19.7in.)to be kept. With a conservation license only one can be kept, 4 can be kept with sport license. That really lessens the amount of fish kept. Balsam has different regs where fish between 37-55 cm. can't be kept. Only one can be kept with conservation license, 3 can be kept with sport. Rather confusing but should be followed as CO's are checking. In years past i would have a run on Pigeon Lake that was decent. Walleye opener always seemed rainy and cool like it is this weekend. Always was a good time anyways.
ehg Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 4 and half hours until walleye opens in the Kawarthas. With a conservation license one smallish "wet sock" can be kept
