curlrap Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 I think we can stop complaining about low water levels in lake nipissing. The lower Sturgeon river has probably risen two feet in the last few days and with three gates wide open it will continue to rise to above normal levels. I'm guessing it's above normal right now.
irishfield Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 (edited) BE great if that happens curlap! Temagami is still well over a foot below normal.. almost 2, as of yesterday. Edited April 29, 2011 by irishfield
sandybay Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 We here at Nipissing are above normal for this time of year, which is about a foot higher the last July,Normals for this time of year are about a foot lower then summer levels and my prediction to what is flowing into Nipissing this spring is we may end up with near flood conditions in about a month from now.
Bernie Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 It's risen a foot in the last 7 days. With the rain still coming down and rivers overflowing I would expect Nipissing will certainly flood in two weeks. We need some warm and dry weather. Soon!
Nipfisher Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 I drove North Bay to New Liskeard and back today. There is allot of water. Here are a few pics taken from the truck with the cell phone. A little ice left on Temagami Tomiko River Rest stop flooded This is the Chippewa Creek which runs through North Bay. The Conservation Authority issued flood warnings for it today.
Muskieman Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 As Dean said... we don't have to worry about low levels, but flooding is imminent. taken this morning... Taken last year at about the same time... Randy
Mike01 Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 I'd rather see a week or two of high water than a summer of low water. I couldn't even get a 16' boat into my dock last year. Hopefully the flooding doesn't do that much damage, my mom lives right on the beach in NB.
curlrap Posted April 29, 2011 Author Report Posted April 29, 2011 Those are some nice pictures, we haven't seen four gates wide open in a while. The lake going to rise quick with that amount of water spilling.
Nipfisher Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 Randy, I can't see Pickeral rock this year? I guess you're gonna have to take me.
Bernie Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 http://www.nugget.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=3101910 I think these guys are not realizing how much water is entering the lake right now. I don't have a lot of faith in conservation authorities.
Rod Caster Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 What a difference a year makes. Great shots Randy, they make for a great comparison.
bucktail Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 High water years after low water years are normally associated with a boom in fish production...lets hope!
Mike01 Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 As of yesterday my dock was only a foot from being swallowed up by the lake and there is more rain the forcast.
capt_hooked Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 At Lakair our docks are now officially under water. But regarding the statement above per fish population (high water/low water)... the MNR fall index netting study in late October 2010 showed a very good year class for walleyes. In other words, despite the low water levels.. the walleyes enjoyed a very good spawn in the spring of 2010. Good news for the years ahead. cheers.. the capt.
lew Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 At Lakair our docks are now officially under water. the capt. Huge difference from last summer Kevin and hopefully the levels stay up....well maybe not quite over your docks See you guys in August !!
Nipfisher Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 (edited) Very little rain in the forecast for the next two weeks according to the Weather Network. Should help out the water situation a bit. I started up my 1986 Jonson 4hp today for my little boats. 2nd pull with last years gas. Was stored in my basement all winter. My big boat will come this week and I'll back it into the lake and fire it up on Thursday. Edited May 2, 2011 by Nipfisher
