  1. That Larson boat looks like a really nice fishing platform. I didn't see it in person, just in this thread.
  2. Radio world is selling Fish Hawk X4's for $540 at the show. That's a very good price. I picked up mine at the Sportsman Show last year from Radio World for 5 bills. The boats seemed to be priced fairly well. I zipped over to Sail in Vaughan and picked up some NK Mags for 4.49 a piece (regular price). That's a very good price and far better than anything at the show (or anywhere else for that matter). The show is fun but I don't go expecting a deal. If you keep your eyes peeled you can catch a deal, it just depends if it is on something you need. Remember, it is not a deal if you didn't need it in the first place! I can not find Bomber deep divers anywhere. Lots of shallow ones around but I have been having a tough time finding the deep divers.
  3. I realize that you were just responding. I was just thinking that if the son would read this thread and saw it turn into a Darryl Choronzey thread instead of what it should be, well, it would be slightly depressing that's all. Anyways, I thought it was a nice article giving credit to the people behind the scenes.
  4. If I lived in that area and was a reader of that paper, I would be thrilled that it added an outdoors piece. I wish my local paper would do the same.
  5. Leave the old man out of it. This is a good article by the son. I happen to like the old man. Whether you do or do not like the old man has nothing to do with the work of the son. He is his own person and should be judged on his own merits.
  6. I have to ask, why would you knowingly plan a trip to the worst rated outfitter on the lake? It has me almost suspicious :-)
  7. Correct. Meegs have bumps on the top of them.
  8. I just went to the site and noticed they are bringing in a boxer to sell t-shirts. It's getting pretty weird. Lol.
  9. Do you have a chainsaw?
  10. Sleeman Original
  11. We were fishing with live minnows if my memory serves me correct. The water is shallow and really stained. The Walleye are light in colour. I was lucky enough to catch this 7.5 pounder. You can see how clear the fins are. We were in a giant Bungalow style hut. Ray Blackburn was the guy we went with. I wonder if that is the 'Abitibi Ray' that these guys are talking about. Great guy anyways. My Dad caught this Silver Pike up there too. FYI, it is just a Northern Pike with no pigment. Really cool looking fish. In person you can see how the sun reflects different colours off the scales. Really neat. Here is our minnow bucket, just to give you an idea of the stained water you will be fishing. For us there was lots of Walleye in the 16-20 inch range, a bunch of little Saugers and after the sun went down loads of ling to about 22 inches. Oh yeah, the Pike too. Have fun. I have always meant to go back.
  12. That really great. Way to go. Those are some real beauties. I wish I didn't put my boat away for the winter.
  13. I also loved the substitute teacher making an interception in the Super Bowl. Great story. That was very bad throw selection.
  14. That broadcaster is Cris Collinsworth. He has nothing good to say about anybody. I was pulling for the Giants because I believe the NFC is far superior. Brady had to throw that ball a bit behind him because if he led Welker up the field he would have been destroyed. I really enjoyed the whole game. That Manningham catch was unbelievable. The one Cruz catch wear he jumped like 4 feet off the ground to grab the ball was awesome too.
  15. The new style hiking boots are like running around on the rocks in what feels like a pair of asics and you look down and you have the ankle protection of wearing hiking boots. Combat boots are great for ankle protection and are rugged but they aren't as nimble as hiking boots. I could literally hit the treadmill with my Keens or my old set of Merrells.
  16. I have a pair of Keens that I have put through the ringer. They cost me 190 bones about 4 years ago. Great boot. I had a pair of Merrels before and I really liked them also.
  17. I fished Abitibi in 2007. Great Lake to ice fish. Pretty shallow. You will get walleye and sauger all day and the odd pike. The pike that come around are usually pretty bloody big. Keep it simple, jig and minnow or spoons. Once the sun goes down it is ling city. The ling provide a great deal of entertainment. You are going to catch plenty of fish. Have fun.
  18. Some time ago I saw "My hovercraft is full of eels" on Facebook and almost fell over laughing as I am a big Python fan. As for the rest of them, I think it is a really neat idea to have to make up an original story for an original model.
  19. Cool model and an even cooler story.
  20. EI is to help make ends meet after a layoff while you search for another job. EI parental leave is to help make ends meet while you spent the first year with your child after birth. Going fishing 3 or 4 times a week is neither. I don't mean to be rude but you are asking us for reassurance on your decision to repo a fishing rod combo to offset a perceived debt. In doing so you have revealed information that is making people question other aspects of this ordeal. You are starting to get a bit snarky with those that are not offering you the reassurance you are looking for. You financed your buddy's fishing. The Governmemt of Canada financed yours. If I was your wife I would choke you. I have a 2 1/2 year old son and have been keeping my wife at home with the kid. For the last little bit I have been paying for part time pre school so he has more time spent with kids his age. I have a big ole boat and a garage full of fishing rods but haven't gone out in some time because I want to help my wife and spend as much time as possible around them. I couldn't imagine taking off on my wife every week-end to go fishing or sending her to work and go fishing if I was as you describe yourself as 'broke'. I guess you could tell everyone to mind there own business but you asked.
  21. Wow. That is one fine fish.
  22. That is great! If he finally got a day off and you are the first one he phoned (especially at 21) then he must hold you in the highest regard. It sounds like he is taking a liking for fishing as well. I have not fished with my father since September. We use to fish together every week-end. We have both been busy at work and I have a little boy now. When I was 25 I figured out that my father was right about all those things I thought he was wrong about. We have been inseparable ever since.
  23. My mother in law LOVES the Mardi Gras from New Orleans Pizza. My advice is to take a pass on it. 20 grams of fat in a slice of pizza!
  24. Beauties! It is nice to see people finally getting the opportunity to get out to the laker grounds.
  25. Good job for keeping at it.
