baseball and soccer fields are prime locations. you can also make any backyard a prime location by releasing leftover worms from fishing trips. my dad has been doing this for a long time and now the yard is littered with worms every night there is rain. i like to go bare foot because it makes it much easier to walk silently and to avoid vibrations. you'd be surprised by how many more worms you will see if you tread very lightly. i also stretch a red balloon over my light to avoid spooking them. also makes it easier for you to see in the dark as the red doesnt effect your night vision.

If you could permanently move to one area for the sake of fishing...
ch312 replied to Mykester's topic in General Discussion
1) southwest newfoundland. have been there two times for 3 weeks each trip. fishing for brookies in bronze colored freshwater lakes is awesome. sea run trout in the lakes that fill with high tides and schools large enough to make stream pools black. then you have the cod, mackerel, halbiut, mussels, lobster, snails, turr, caribou, moose, bear...wait a minute, why the hell havent i moved there yet!? plus the people there are much nicer than most around here. 2) great slave lake. i love fishing for big pike and im sure i wouldnt mind a huge laker here and there. im one of those guys that likes to "rough it" and would love living like a mountain man living off the land way up there. of course id still need hydro for the flat screen and ps3...lol. -
just go inside and ask the cashier to turn it on for you. most are willing to give you the air for free...

keystone light is a new beer out by molson. picked up 24 cans for $29 and 7 out of 8 people liked it. im not a fussy beer drinker so its usually just cheap stuff for me. works out great because no matter whose friends house i visit, i like their beer

actually, the article stated that the shark bit through the net after detecting a COUPLE dead fish. the article also stated that there was no way to get it out, so the decision to kill it was made. id say they weighed their options and killing it was the only sensible method of removal. i fully understand that people dont want to see an endangered species killed, but legally it doesnt matter if its an endangered species or not. farmers are allowed to protect their livelihood from endangered predators including cougar, leopard, lions, etc. great white too by the looks of it. i wonder how many armchair warriors here would jump into a relatively small pen with a healthy 6m long great white to try and save it? this guy was nuts for jumping in after the fish was likely half dead...

tuna are caught and then transferred into cages where they pack on weight for a season and then get sent to slaughter. cattle is purchased young and packs on weight before getting sent to slaughter as well. sounds like the same deal to me farmers can protect their livestock from predators. why cant tuna ranchers protect their fish from sharks?
-
 heaven forbid these people protect their livestock and equipment. farmers can kill animals that threaten their livestock. why cant these guys? farming tuna is big money and i wouldnt expect people to sit back and watch as a shark was damaging the nets or killing tuna. i just checked out a google book which stated the tuna ranched in mexico fetch an average of $30/kg. the maximum density per cage is 4kg per m3 in a 20,000m3 cage. assuming each farm follows this, each cage can have an average of $150k worth of tuna. tuna are caught and then placed in these cages to gain weight. just think of how much money it costs just to catch these fish and transport them to these holding cages. soooo...to those who are crying about a shark being killed. its easy for you to sit here and try to make these guys look bad, but would you sit back and watch while an attacking shark could cost you or your employer over $150,000? and a little tidbit i also found... the record sale for a blue fin tuna is $175,000 for a 511 lb fish...$342 PER POUND!

http://www.brantfordexpositor.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2227090 its just for repairs and will likely be back up in the summer. no need to worry unless the worst case scenario of being drained for 4 years happens. it is not the rowing club that is causing destruction. the article says that the rowing club uses the lake for training so it doesnt make sense for them to want the lake drained. draining the lake is the most cost effective way of repairing the dam...
-
not too much information in that article. but, when they mentioned that the dam was deteriorated quite badly, i assumed they were just doing repairs on the dam? anyone have more info?

i broke my normal rod, so im going to try something different this year. its a 2 piece 10' abu garcia conolon xc 100m hellbender. not sure what its actual purpose is, but it should work nice for making long casts with heavy rigs. id love to hear what this rod is meant for. my buddy gave me it with no information about it. ill be using an old shimano tx 130 spinning reel that has a rear "fighting" drag. its old and its ugly, but its a bigger reel with a nice smooth drag. as you can tell, im not the type that must have new and nice looking gear to catch fish im sure ill hear it for using a spinning reel on a bait casting rod

i did it on my computer with XP and have had no problems in a few years. thing is i forget how i did it. i do know that it took me quite a few google searches to find out how to do it and it was a pain in the butt. not really worth it for the average joe...

for the last few years i have been using 15lb mono for these critters and have lost the odd fish here and there from the mono getting chewed up on rocks/trees. i picked up some 50lb power pro on sale at fishing world just because it was cheap i was thinking this would be a very tough line, but what about dealing with snags? i was thinking of using the following in order from the rod to hook: 1oz egg sinker plastic bead heavy swivel 2ft of mono circle hook what im worried about is getting the egg sinker hung up between 2 rocks and not being able to break the power pro. what test braid would be good for a main line? what would be best for a leader?

i was fine with paying the high price to get into the show and even bought some very over priced food. but what really pissed me off was paying $17 to park for 5 hours. like i've always said...there is NOTHING good about the garbage pit we all know as toronto. the location was horrible and who the heck wants to walk around that much to see everything? i picked up a couple rods, a waterproof barrel for boating/canoeing, and a few lures. it was quite pathetic when a couple different dealers wouldnt even take $5 less for the $30 barrel that likely cost them $15 or $6 off a $70 rod so i wouldnt have to carry change. this was the last chance for the show to put a smile on my face and they really blew it. my money will never go to that money grab show again and i could care less if they stopped doing it.

im up for fighting hackers, but the new format is less than desirable.

nobody has mentioned nanticoke yet? ive seen quite a few huge carp there over the years.

the best part of fishing is not knowing what you may hook into...fight em!

because in many places there is still safe ice once you manage to get off shore without getting wet. ill take a drive out to waterford tomorrow to see whats going on.
-
took that beauty on a 1/2" piece of worm while targeting finicky bluegill. for those who havent fished waterford ponds before. this is not a typical catch and id assume that its one of very few bass in those waters that is that big. dont go there with high expectations of catching big bass or you will be disappointed. kinda like the 12.25" perch i caught out of puslinch...likely the only one in there that size. lol tell me about it. they recently paved an old rail bed that people on atv's and dirtbikes have been using for years. once its paved we arent suppose to ride on the trail anymore even though its outside city limits ive been stopped by police 3 times now and every time they have threatened me with towing my quad, no insurance (even though i do have it?), and trespassing. unfortunately for those cops, i'm not an idiot when it comes to what we can do and where we can ride so all 3 times have been a waste of our time and theirs. whatever you do PLEASE stay out of planted fields, stay off peoples cut grass, and dont drive like an idiot around houses/people. its these people that ruin it for others and make it much harder for people like me who go around asking permission before riding. kinda like a bad hunter putting a bad taste in a landowners mouth and they deny entry to everyone after wards.

ive been doing concrete work for 7+ years now and i can tell you right now to be careful when it comes to people doing it that cheap. they are either trying to make some cash on the side (no warranties, no paper trail if they screw you, etc) or they are going to do a poor job and not prepare the base properly. id stay away from these guys unless they are buddies doing you a favor. even if paying cash the price you stated for the total job is ridiculously low. you're looking at 15 meters or so (not including the walkway) and the proper concrete will cost $3k alone. add in removal and disposal of soil/existing concrete, 20-25 yards of gravel, labor, steel, etc and theres no profit left for the guy doing the job. meaning they will skimp on important things like base preparation, steel, proper concrete and thickness, finish, coming back to cut it, etc. id stay away unless he is a good buddy.

i am totally against causing harm to someone....unless they deserve it the steel pipe beside the hole sounds like a great idea to me. idiots that come zipping by continue to do so because its nearly impossible to punish them for their idiotic actions. ruining a few sleds without causing harm to the drivers would be ideal and word of it would spread like wildfire. next thing you know ice fishermen are no longer losing gear or getting headaches from these morons because they fear there is a trap. sure it sounds ridiculous, but so does zipping by 20ft away from ice huts and fishermen going 120km/h. the only way to fight stupid is to lower yourself to their level.

i was referring to the GPS unit. we were up there on friday and spotted something standing straight up. both of us were too lazy to drill another hole and get a closer look with the camera...lol. plus we figured any electronics would be pooched in 40ft of water and at least a 1 hour soak. we figured it was either a flip phone that was open or a GPS.
