  1. One more thing you should do if hooking it into two batteries is fusing the circuit. A short would certainly cause a fire.
  2. It will depend on the amperage output of the charger and the guage of wire in the cord. The smaller the guage the better the amperage capacity. Its probably 14 gauge wire so that should be able to handle 10 to 15 amps.
  3. Properly done, shrink wrap is a good way to store. Make sure to build the supports strong and high enough for snow to slide off. Install vents as well. I'd leave the oil in the drive. Just crack the drain screw to check for any water in the oil or drain it out and refill. The oil keeps the gears from getting rusted from condensation. Some IO's (Older OMC units) also have two areas that have gearcase oil. The upper housing also has gears that change drive direction that require lubricant. Careful with filling the block with antifreeze. Make sure you drain the block by removing any drain screws first.
  4. When I write up a safety I have to make sure of proper address on the work order. It's part of the process. I go by the book and have not had an issue with the MTO in 20 years. I aim to keep it that way. Have not heard of them going to a customers house before, but it is a possibility. I do find it strange that play in a tie rod would pass however.
  5. Well done Bunk! Great report, thanks for sharing it with us.
  6. No frost on the island this morning but there is a fog over the lake surface. Probably froze on the mainland away from the water. At least the sun may shine today when it rises.
  7. Ya Brian, it is. We lost a lot of that when we lost Speed Channel. But I did enjoy watching NHL on Saturday nights occasionally too. Sad to see corporate greed ruin a Canadian family tradition.
  8. Is there going to be any free televised hockey. I use Bell satellite so I am not too hopeful. And I'll not pay to watch either. The sat bill is high enough already.
  9. Thank you for sharing that trip of a lifetime. I'd love to take my dad on a trip like that !
  10. Try Sam's Reel Repair in North Bay. http://www.cityofnorthbay.ca/business/directory/business/P0109526
  11. He would have been better off not responding. Most people can see right through that apology.
  12. So sorry Matt. My condolences to you and your family.
  13. Studded Tire Use in Ontario Extended The Ontario government has just announced it has extended the time period when northern Ontario drivers are allowed to use studded tires. Drivers who live in northern Ontario can now put on studded tires earlier and keep them on longer, providing motorists with more options to stay safe during severe or extended winter weather. Northern Ontario residents can now use studded tires from Sept. 1 to May 31. Previously, studded tires were only allowed from Oct. 1 to April 30. The change is based on advice and recommendations from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). Studded tires can be used on vehicles that have an ownership address in northern Ontario, which includes the districts of Algoma, Cochrane, Kenora, Manitoulin, Nipissing, Parry Sound, Rainy River, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, and Temiskaming.” They can also be used on out-of-province vehicles travelling in Ontario for less than a month. Please note that only Scandinavian standard lightweight studs can be used in northern Ontario. 14. Three Stones, Dads Spot, and the Glory Hole come to mind.
  15. Just to clarify, I never said I hated chicken. But the rest of Mikes summary was close. LMAO !
  16. Well done on the report Cliff. Another fun filled weekend in the books. We even went fishing
  17. Find that most of those big logs split fairly easy near the base. Its where you get into the branches or old damage that it gets tough. I split the ones that size in the bush.
  18. Cool. Ya, I'd drive that! Seen those before in a video. Looked like it ran really well on the snow too
  19. lol Lew. It's still up on the rock. If it calms a little bit I may take a ride over to check it out.
  20. LOL Joeytier ! I suspect there was some spirits involved or perhaps trusting a GPS.
  21. This happened on Sunday. Apparently no one hurt. A link to the story here. http://www.nugget.ca/2014/08/26/something-doesnt-belong
  22. Sure is Roy and Lew. I could spend all day up there and see something new just in one small area. Wish I had taken more pics too.
  23. I agree with your thinking Lew. In most cases if they suggested putting on a different life jacket and trashing the old one would have been sufficient. They certainly are not making themselves look good in the eyes of the public. No wonder I and others take a different route when they are spotted in the area.
  24. Some of you may know Dennis Johnston. He operates Ice Bungalows here on Nipissing. Known Dennis for a good many years and he is a great guy. Last winter he stopped by the cottage for a warm up and a chat. Said sometime during the summer he would fly by and take me up in his Cessna 180. Well, he did that yesterday. He buzzed the cottage to see if I was here. Like usual, I was. Up we went. It's been a good many years since I was up in a small craft. Exhilarating experience! We flew for about a half hour over the South Bay. Never realized there was so many ponds and small lakes before. He gave me a few pointers and let me take the controls. It doesn't take much input to change altitude or direction. I'd love to get my pilots license, but too many other things to look after at the same time. Life is too short! Didn't see a lot of boats out on the water. Anyway, here are a couple of pics I took. Hunters Bay Most of South Bay area. You can see the Manitou Islands and the North shore in the distance. Fish Bay This is the mouth of the South River. Me at the control. Dennis seemed to be calm during this lol
  25. Glad you went home Lew. The weather has turned nice again
