  1. Just a note on this subject. DDT wasn't used as an insecticide until it was discovered it had that capability in 1939. There were no cormorants on Nipissing at that time. My father has repeatedly stated that. So it is an anomaly, but not sure of the cause, only the drastic effect. I also believe they should be culled, maybe even eradicated here. Not a natural thing. The cormorants are taking up natural habitat of the herring gulls and their numbers are decreasing because of it. And as Jocko said, where they are taking up residence all vegetation has been decimated.
  2. Not only do I not care for laying around on a beach, it's that I have spent money that would have bought me something tangible.
  3. We had a wet fall and the water was above summer normals by November. The water froze high and they have steadily dropped the level all winter. They need to drop it in order to handle spring runoffs. But the runoff last spring was non-existent due to little snow and a very warm and dry April. I believe they could have handled the situation better however. Hopefully they learned from the experience.
  4. It's been quite a few years since I have seen conditions like this on Nipissing. Almost like it was many years ago. With the ice shacks getting larger and heavier one of these years folks are going to get an eye opener on how to get them off the lake when the time comes. Dad always built his as light as possible for easier removal in poor conditions. I suspect that one of these years I'll find several shacks drifted up on my shoreline when the lake opens up.
  5. Time to get some tracks for the ATV Cliff. Was out on Nipissing with the pickup yesterday and took a cord of firewood out to the cottage. The going was OK along the road out to the outfitters but when I had to swing off it things got pretty tough. The snow made for tough going but was manageable in four wheel drive. The toughest part was the last hundred feet in front of the cottage. Snow had drifted in there from the wind last weekend and there was about a foot of slush under a foot or more of snow. The wood gave me enough traction to carry me through but it would have been a bad situation if I had gotten stuck.
  6. It's a good thing the pole was won by a draw. It will likely be the only way Jr. will get one anymore.
  7. I know of some island property if you are interested. A friend of mine has a couple of lots left. Very nice property and area. They are bigger than what you are looking for but the price may be right.
  8. Thank you Dan, I think I used it more last summer than my glass boat. GBW, It's difficult to get Joe out of the sleep cabin.
  9. I submit that we have winter once every three years. Anyone to second that motion? Looking forward to dropping this in the water around mid April. Two more months!
  10. Well it's a good thing they don't set up ride programs on the golf course.
  11. So why can you drink and drive on a golf course? Because bureaucrats and lawyers are golfers.
  12. It may have been unintentional accident, but certainly preventable. Fisherman said it correctly. Too much speed and over driving headlights. They should be charged in my opinion and made to pay damages.
  13. Wayne those new containers are useless. I experimented with one last summer by tapping a thread in the plastic and threading in a fitting with a valve. Added a little JB weld around the thread in the plastic. It certainly made it usable. The next one I do I will use a slightly larger fitting.
  14. I had to extend the plow Gerritt. There is an extender kit designed for it that made it easy.
  15. Hmmm, not sure how wide it is? Didn't measure it. I'd say more than 4. The tracks stick out at least 4 inches more than the tires on the front to allow steering clearance. I wouldn't use it on the trails anyway, I'd just use a sled. I use this for a workhorse.
  16. It does close to 90 k on tires and on tracks on hard surface about 75. Works pretty good. I'm impressed so far. Still not a sled though.
  17. This is when they made a sled. Kinda hard to hurt yourself on this one. I'm the little guy on the seat ahead of my mom. And my dads old 68 Snow Crusher in the background. An old Moto Ski, not sure what year. An old family friend with a few pickerel.
  18. If anyone needs a ride, just give me a call.
  19. I know what you are saying Jocko, they seem ugly to me too. But hop on one and you will understand. These new sleds work incredible. There is a reason for the way they are engineered. Low center of gravity (gets the engine down low) long travel suspension for a smooth ride, less belly pan which slowed them down in snow, wide ski stance for stability, lightweight construction for power to weight ratios, handling and fuel economy.
  20. If conditions were that bad that I couldn't drive to work, I'd walk ! Sissy's !!! But um, I uh, only live a block away.
  21. Bad tire most likely Gerritt. Every time the bump in the tire hits the road it pushes on the wheel. It may be a bent rim but it would have to be bent quite a lot.
  22. I have one Dan. Great little light.
  23. OK, fair enough. Not sure what is up yet next weekend but I might stop by to say hello.
  24. Any of you fellas going to bring an FRS radio? Just in case I get a chance to pop by.
  25. Waynechute has it correct. Because Lund is part of Brunswick it comes rigged for Merc. Also dealers can purchase as a package to get better pricing. But often can recoup a little on a loose Merc too. We sell both Merc and Evinrudes. I'm partial to the E-tec, maybe it's because it's ingrained after so long. Injector issues with Etecs? Hmmmm I would disagree with that. They have proven to be as reliable as any other make. Seen very few issues. Most problems fuel related are common on all makes....Bad gas and not using stabilizers!
