  1. For the money the Lightning rods are good value. Good sensitivity and seem to be tough as well.
  2. I have seen those radios in operation Lew. Dewalt usually has good stuff, but honestly I wasn't impressed with the radios. Especially when they are used around construction equipment that causes LOTS of radio interference static.
  3. Good morning Lew. It's possible the radio has poor reception to the station or it has poor circuitry that is picking up the static generated by the lights. If the old radio worked well, I'd suspect the latter.
  4. Shhhh, don't tell anyone. MPAC will fix that in a hurry. Mine is double yours on Nipissing, NO services either.
  5. Thanks for the info Wayne. Still a rare sight to see a turkey around here so I don't know what they do.
  6. Coming home from the cottage today there were two deer on the road. They ran down the road a long way before they found a place to get off. The banks are certainly getting higher and we don't have anywhere near as much as others. I was wondering about the wild turkeys too. This kind of winter could be hard on them.
  7. WOW! Nice fish Bill! That one wouldn't fit in my smoker
  8. When I had three insured vehicles and two drivers in the house, the third vehicle was dirt cheap to insure. When my son got his drivers licence then it became three drivers and the rate would have been too high. So I took the third one off the road.
  9. From what I understand at this point it may be OK. It could make an exciting final race. I'd have to say it will be better than it was.
  10. Guess I'll have to find a turbocharger and some high performance exhaust for Joe's auger. Brian should be able to rig up a stronger handle. Let the game's begin....
  11. Drove a 1998 CRV standard trans for several years. Pulled my ATV on a small trailer somewhat OK, but only had a short distance to haul. I certainly wouldn't use it to pull a craft as large as yours.
  12. Put a smaller pitch propeller on it. It's overpropped for a load. Too large propeller is like trying to start out your car in high gear. Trim tabs may help in some cases if the bow is going too high when starting out, but you mentioned no such issues.
  13. I am surprised no one has mentioned that the engine may be overpropped for a load in the boat.
  14. A properly designed and maintained two stroke should run well at any speed.

  16. Two strokes develop power on every downstroke of the piston. Four strokes take two revolutions for power. Two strokes generally will also idle slower because of power on every stroke.
  17. Those early 1960 3hp were the best ever for that. Twin cylinder smooth, lightweight and dependable. Dad has a collection of them. I gave my old one to my duck hunting son. You know they are good when they get handed down through generations.
  18. Franson -12 Phanuef +12 Why is that?
  19. I fixed up an old 2 stroke 15 Johnson for early spring operation. Has a tilt up feature for shallow water running. Packs plenty of punch, is light and easy on fuel. Also run an old 18 hp Johnson, 1958 vintage. Runs sweet as new. Not as easy on fuel, but I love it anyway. 4 strokes are OK if you are not taking them on or off the boat. But they tend to be heavier and rob some boat capacity and operating speed. In my mind, 2 strokes are king for smaller boats. Too bad they are getting hard to find in a wider variety. O ya, still love my old 175 Ficht too.
  20. Here is a pickup going by on Sunday. That is Dennis from Ice Bungalows. He usually keeps a good road to his setup.
  21. Walked to work this morning, had a Lew stash going on.
  22. After 20" I doubt anyone noticed. It was tough going last weekend in the South Bay unless you were driving a skidoo. I took a skidoo out last weekend, best way to go right now. 4x4 pickups were getting a workout, even on the well traveled routes. Seen a few spots where they got stuck. Anglers Haven was going back and forth on Skidoos the last few days. Hopefully this cold will take care of some of the slush. But even if it does, the ruts and ice clumps will make a slow trip in a truck.
  23. O jeez Joe. Another one to train....
  24. I use powder paint on my jigs. It makes for a much tougher better gloss finish but whether it is faster or not I am not sure. I use them myself, plus give some away so it's more important to have the quality. The powder paint is hard as soon as it cools so no waiting for regular paint to dry. Easy to do once you do a few. The proper amount of heat is the key. Too cool and it goes on in clumps, too hot and it bubbles.
