Sorry to disagree Shayne, the rounded fins are exclusive to tiger-pike take a closer look. Pure Kawarthas musky have pointed fins like last, largest, typical Kawartha musky. First musky is a tiger...that is all.
-
Sorry, your wrong Rizzo. Have caught musky on Pigeon for 30 + years. They are always 'clear' musky. Barred musky are Great Lakes strain not found in Kawarthas. That is a Tiger look at rounded fins. The last, largest musky is typical Pigeon with sharp, forked fins. Check out this site for more info. http://www.musky.ca/muskieskinpatterns.htm Anyways, Tupelo you did great catching 3 musky in one day on an unfamiliar lake. A tiger musky to boot.

I think that is a Tiger Muskie. Rounded fins, etc. Usually Pigeon Lake muskies are 'clear' pattern with 'forked' fins with sharp points. Never caught or heard of Tiger musky in Pigeon Lake. I think you got one.

The hunt began. We went down the West side of the Island - while we had a depth gauge, we had no charts, so had to kind of eyeball it, target water at least 15 feet deep, looking for drop offs, humps, etc. As we were coming around South Birch Point, we had our first strike of the day (around 11 AM) that went to Mark. Really a beautiful looking fish, right in the depth we expected (15 to 20 feet). It got us really excited, and we hoped that the bite was on. But after trolling around the same area for at least an hour - nothing. And so it was time to move

The Moxie guy always is taking shots at our best. Firefighters, nurses, teachers, etc....He has a severe chip on shoulder. Too bad.... Personally have been very disabled for years and these nurses, doctors, paramedics, etc have saved my life and are usually funny, smart and kinda cool. My best friends are teachers and they work long and hard days responsible for 30 kids or so. -
The Trailer Park Boys had a movie a couple years ago called "Don't legalize it" (i haven't seen it). They probably know whats best. I have serious spinal cord injury and bad case progressive-relapsing multiple sclerosis. The stuff was recommended to me for relief, etc. I don't abuse, barely use. Something called Kush costs me about 50 cents a day vaporized. Better than the doctors prescribed percoset, oxycontin, crap. Like booze moderation is key. Was told by dudes, moderation in moderation. I guess..

You need to know where the structure is. Big musky bait would dive 15-20 ft. down over 35-55 ft depths. Usually about 10 to 30 yds. off underwater spine of rocks, rubble that was 10-20 ft down. Gotta always watch your depthfinder.

It would help to know what end of lake your fishing. Spent a few decades fishing north end. This time of year the bass are tough to find. In north end walleye are in deep trenches, 30 to 45 ft. down jigged up 3/8 oz with white twistertail/worm stinger hook. Musky can be found in same trenches but trolled in open water, back towards structure with 8 to 12 inch jointed Believers, Jakes, etc...in perch or walleye colours. In North end need to find deepest water. Have no clue about south end.

What? You don't know me. I'm just a Montreal Canadiens fan who likes fishing. Like you perhaps. Frig political threads on a fishing board. -

What happened? McSquinty and Wynne were just voted PM. Gonna have to do more fishin' and bitchen' with the new boats and skidoo's posted here. The last decade of former PM put us where we are now. At least Harper had so much mousse and hairspray his head was bullet proof. -

Ya back a decade ago before Harper's conservative government. Remember he has been in power all this time. Thus, all the wage cuts, jobs sent to Mexico, etc, etc....haha Conservative government benefits the top 1% like the druggy Ford family and the rest of rich who like partying while rest of us lose. Wish i wasn't disabled or i would still be fishing, its not that expensive. -

No one is ruining this province yet. Take your pic for future provincially. NDP- Andrea Horvath, Liberal- Wynne, PC- that scary Patrick Brown. This site was better a decade ago when people talked about fishing and shared fish trip pictorials. Fishing related things consumed 80 percent of the board back in good ol' days. -
Harper is around southern Ontario and former drug dealer Doug Ford and his crack addict druggy brother Rob Ford were on CP24 talking about throwing a Conservative party Saturday in his honour. Maybe Ontario PC leader nazi-like Patrick Brown will get down for party.

Hopefully you have a depthfinder. There is great fishing in the area to the east of Trails End at this time of year. Find the area of 45-60 ft. deep water and use 3/8 to 1/2 ounce jig with slv/blk curly tail or paddle tail with worm and stinger hook (worm is important). The walleyes are deep along bottom there now. This time of year in morning/ evening bass are all over topwaters. Casting topwaters or spinnerbaits along shorelines or at rocks works. 5 lb. bass are around. Trolling that Jailbird Believer or perch Supershad Rap along 20-25 ft breakline to east of Hurricane point or throwing musky size spinnerbait at rocks in area gives good shot at decent musky. This is best time of year for these depths outlined in that superb spot. Had a place there for 30 yrs. and did well at this time of year. Good Luck.

Fished a lot there back 20 - 35 years ago. Found walking along channel from north - south - north while pulling a RattlinRap or curly tail jig right tight to metal side or bank produced small bass. Needed to be tipped with worm always. Get some worms. Can always get a few bullhead by hook/worm and a few splitshot thrown out there 'til you get a bite.

Love the photos and info from beginning to end. Really gives a sense of everything involved and the beauty of the area. Butter chicken (Indian cuisine) in the wilderness of Northern Ontario eh? 60 + hours to do this post at regular unionized wage, must be 6 or 7 thousand dollars of work. HaHa, thanks again. -
Back 30 yrs. ago as a kid i liked getting fishing mags (pre-internet). Ontario Fisherman, Ontario Out of Doors, etc....i found your posts provided the same if not better photos and info, From Lake O. trib steelheading back in the day to your Sutton R. brookie trips, being stalked by a wolf around eastern Lake Superior, central Quebec picking blueberries with your whole family,etc... all were good and without intention of self promotion. Nice work and thanks.

Friend of George Hill from back 25 yrs, ago when he lived in T.O. Lost touch a bit last couple years when he moved to Ottawa. Still a good friend with other Cornwall dude Kent B. here in Toronto. Met other Cornwall peeps Rochelle H. , Peter Hill, John Black et al...way back. in T.O. Anyways, best fishing on island was on north side of channel. Rattle baits, swim jigs, and Rapalas in blk/slv thrown off big rocks produce bass. Good Luck!

Not a lot cottages on Sanley Island. I was a guest of the Hill family. Not fishing folk on island. Lots of bass around. Maybe try topwaters for bass in morningor a Rapala minnowbait in evening.
