  1. Sometimes when I can't sleep at night I count fish instead of sheep lol Specifically I revisit some of my favorite memories from trips I have taken For whatever reason it really works and I rarely get past 4 memories before I drift off Here's a few of my favorites https://www.northernjacks.com/post/counting-fish Cheers Andrew
  2. No problem Someone linked to Mike Borger’s site https://www.canadafishingguide.net. He has done a lot of trips w Air Dale and has trip reports up I did two trips w White River air and my reports are here https://www.northernjacks.com/post/50-mission-cap-our-first-fly-in and here https://www.northernjacks.com/post/looking-for-a-fish-to-happen Cheers Andrew
  3. I think most outfitters will have a lake or two where they will take a small group in the fall this year may be a little tougher with the late border opening I know White River Air has a few lakes where they will do two and I believe Air Dale out of Wawa does as well best of luck Andrew
  4. Looks like a great trip. Some really nice fish there. The colours on some of the smallies and that musky are incredible Thanks for sharing Andrew
  5. Looks like an awesome trip - thanks for sharing Andrew
  6. I have been packing my gear this week as me and the guys get ready for a 3 night canoe trip in Algonquin I have been using this bag for a few years now - I take it on my fly in trips, boat ins or drive tos - it sometimes makes an appearance when we head to the boat access cottage Its been a great purchase so far - full review here https://www.northernjacks.com/post/product-review-eureka-75l-canoe-pack Cheers! 7. My attention span is typically pretty bad - except for fishing Recently I spent an few hours in the rain at the cottage just casting - with only a small rock bass to show for it - yet I kept on going As I pondered why I came to the conclusion that its because I am waiting for the unexpected, the fluke or the monster sitting just off that one lily pad Its a fishing memory post about some of my favorites unexpected fish from a fly in, musky fishing in Hali and off the dock in Muskoka https://www.northernjacks.com/post/the-unexpected Cheers Andrew

  8. Enjoyed that read today = thanks for sharing - great start to your year Andrew
  9. I am a little late to this but I am a big fan of my BPS Pro Qualifier suit - for 2 years I just asked for BPS gift certs for any gift giving occasion and eventually had enough to buy the suit Only downfall is BPS doesn't seem to make that line anymore - price/insulation wise it was one step below the 100 MPH series When I bought mine the gentlemen who helped me pushed my towards the lighter of the two suits, and advised to buy 1 size up since I did most of my fishing from May until September - that was I could wear it when really hot with shorts and a t shirt and when colder layer underneath - must say it was great advice. I have had my suit for 7 years now and it still works as it should Cheers Andrew
  10. Another tales from post This time I had the pleasure of chatting with Glenn Matthews Glenn and his group have taken 14 trips out of Nakina with the same outfitter Was a great chat and I certainly have some new lakes added to the never ending “check it out” file https://www.northernjacks.com/post/tales-from-nakina Cheers and thanks for the look Andrew PS always on the lookout to chat w others. If interested feel free to PM me to figure out if there’s an opportunity
  11. I’ve never been to any of the lodges or camps in Quebec but I will say for a first time trip w kids Shag is into something about looking at smaller lakes or more remote lakes My groups first fly was to a small lake w White River and it was magical Small enough that we weren’t daunted by figuring it out and great fishing so we never got bored No experience with them but I do know that Air Tamarac in Clova has quite a following for their Lac Hebert and Lac Charlotte camps Pretty sure if you search this site there is a Lac Charlotte report somewhere if you google Kipawa there is a different community built by those who love the lake and the area as well cheers and best of luck. Sounds like a great adventure Andrew
  12. Wow. Great report thanks for sharing! Some nice looking fish and awesome scenery cheers Andrew
  13. Sadly there is no fly in trip planned for 2021. New jobs for a few in our group have us staying closer to home (we are meeting up this evening to pick our 2022 destination though). Bigger outing will be in Algonquin mainly paddling and camping but will definitely wet a line for trout (although I suck at trout fishing) Will also spend some time at the cottage and get out locally on the yak https://www.northernjacks.com/post/summer-2021-plans As always thanks for reading Andrew

  14. So I would consider those obvious choices lol. This list was supposed to be the things you may forget as crucial
  15. Newest Post is Up With summer upon us many are heading out on their fishing excursions it got me thinking about some critical items I have added to my trip gear Some are not things one would typically think of or at least I didn't my first few trips so I thought I would share Here it is - top 5 things for a fly in trip (that aren't top of mind) https://www.northernjacks.com/post/top-5-must-have-s-for-your-fly-in-trip Cheers Andrew
  16. Going to be at the cottage Not sure if I will be in the yak, the dock or the boat but will definitely be fishing lol
  17. I have been lucky enough to have taken quite a few trips over the last 15 years or so Every one has been special in its own way - but there are a few traditions we have worked in that are maybe not that traditional? https://www.northernjacks.com/post/enhance-your-trip-experience Cheers and as always thanks for checking it out Andrew
  18. I have written this and deleted and updated a few times for fear of seeming like I am whining or not aware of how lucky I am that I have kept working during all of this and for the most part my family and friends have stayed healthy similar to others I realize I miss people and “hanging out” over this time frame. Maybe what this experience has taught me is that things are nice but in reality health, friendships and family are what really matters
  19. Sweet ride. Congrats I don’t see myself buying a boat for a few years still but when I do that’s the kind of rig I want Years ago on a trip we had a 17.5 foot Lund Outfitter w a 50 HP Yamaha tiller and it was awesome. Still the most fishable boat I have been in. (Note I have never fished in a real bass rig which also look incredibly fishable) cheers and congrats! Andrew
  20. Its been a while since the last post due to some technical issues! Changed jobs a few weeks ago and was without a laptop Its another "Tales From" post. This time I had the opportunity to connect with Mike DeGrace, who has had the opportunity to do 29 fly ins all around Ontario Mike's has provided tons of intel to my group over the years through forum posts and more than a few PMs. Mikes and his group have been to many different jump points over the years as they have continued to explore new lakes, target new species and use new outfitters. Here is "Tales from Temagami" https://www.northernjacks.com/post/tales-from-temagami Thanks for checking it out Andrew

  21. I am not sure about taking a group of 2 but outfitters out of Wawa or White River are within your travel radius. I have done two trips w White River Air to Pickle Lake and Shekak Lake. Both good trips, Shekak is bigger and overall better quality(average size for walleye) my trip reports are here northernjacks.com Air Dale out of Wawa has a lot of fans as well. Mike Borger has done a bunch of trips with them. Check Canadianfishingguide.net cheers Andrew
  22. Hey. Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it Andrew
  23. I rarely write “strategy or how to” articles but I do get a lot of emails or questions about spots on lakes We have mainly done our trips near the end of August and there are 3 spot or structure types that have become our go tos https://www.northernjacks.com/post/walleye-magnets Cheers Andrew
  24. Very nice Brian!
  25. So far I have gotten some great feedback on the Tales from Interviews This time around I was lucky enough to chat with Jeff Walker from South Bend, Indiana. Jeff and his group have done numerous trips all across Ontario and he has been an awesome resource for me when I have been researching trips Checking in with Jeff to pull this together was entertaining, enjoyable and informative https://www.northernjacks.com/post/tales-from-south-bend Thanks for reading as always Andrew
