Not sure where you live but around the GTA a lot of the conservation area's are perfect for kayak fishing A few I have tried: Island Lake in Orangeville Kelso in Milton Guelph Lake in Guelph Rockwood Conservation area in Rockwood Also check out the Backroad Map Books - there is one called Ontario Cottage Country I believe and its great for finding smaller out of the way lakes to check out Cheers Andrew

Another product review - My BPS Rain Suit
gordy28 replied to gordy28's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
Hey there Thanks for the read and the comment. You read it correctly it was about $600. Expensive I know. My trick was for about a while the only gift I received from any family members over Christmas, Birthdays, Fathers Day and so on was Bass Pro gift certificates - I didn't take too long before I had enough cards to get the suit Cheers Andrew -
Thanks! Appreciate the kind words Andrew

Thanks! And you would be correct! -
Thanks Craig Very helpful. Focus will be outdoor photography and I would guess a mix of fishing, wildlife and scenery shots. I plan on spending some time with reading and YouTube work cheers Andrew

Bit of a delay here lol - posted this last week but work and a mini vacation kept me from sharing If you love back country camping, paddling or just a good nature tale I recommend you check out a Lonely Land by SIgurd F Olson Middle aged men recreating a historical paddling route with lots of rapids and a little fishing thrown in Most likely my last post for a few weeks - head out on Friday for our 2020 fly in trip - so pumped Andrew https://www.northernjacks.com/post/the-lonely-land-by-sigurd-f-olson-a-book-review

How is poker like fishing - newest post
gordy28 replied to gordy28's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
OI I hear you - I think the idea is its easy to learn how to fish - like the basics, drop a line and either cast it out or troll. But per your note to master takes a life time and probably never happens. I am guessing even professionals learn new tricks and techniques all the time -
As I continue to work on the blog I am realizing that I could use a good photography basics course or book Right now I generally use 3 camera options: Go Pro Style (Akaso Ek7000 pro) Apple IPhone 11 Canon M100 Mirrorless At this stage a new expensive camera isn't in the cards but taking an online course, reading a book or spending some time on some good online resources is doable Primarily focusing on outdoor/fishing photography and potentially short action rolls in video Any tips or tricks or recommendations appreciated Thanks Andrew

Thanks Ohio I originally tried to get the Gopher jigs and they were really expensive to try to get to Canada I have been using both the Z Man finesse jigs and the Berkley Half Heads The Berkley ones are cheaper but I have found 1 out of 3 to be rather dull (I give them a quick file) Cheers Andrew -
Sparrow lake launch access (or others) during covid?
gordy28 replied to Hack_Fisherman's topic in General Discussion
Right across Highway 11 is Kahshe Lake There is a public launch by Rockhaven Marina and pretty sure you can park at Rockhaven for a fee note Kahshe is known for its rocks so if you do head out not a bad idea to check a map and or chat w folks at Rockhaven -

For sure I am in the same boat. Although on the plus side both are one of the few ways I still manage to hang with the guys! -
On a sleepless night last week I came across some World Poker Tour on TV Hearing Mike Sexton exclaim again how it’s the game that “takes a minute to learn and a lifetime to master” made me realize how similar to fishing that is Even with a lot of grey in my beard I still learn something every outing it seems and a recent kayak trip where I was mainly using a ned rig set up really drove that home Newest post is up https://www.northernjacks.com/post/a-minute-to-learn Admin team - not 100% sure where this should go so erred on the side of caution Thanks for reading Andrew

Newest post is up and it’s my first time with video posts When we started doing fly in trips I had so many questions about lures and gear and every extra lb of gear I don’t use is one less beer! This post breaks down my tackle bag (including in the boat gear) for our upcoming trip to Lake St Joseph with Slate Falls Outposts Hoping its helpful to any one planning or heading out on a fly in fishing trip https://www.northernjacks.com/post/tackle-and-boat-gear-from-my-fly-in-trio Admins - please let me know if this should go in non outdoor posts - to me its outdoors but fine to move going forward Cheers Andrew

Spent some time at the cottage a few weeks ago with the family Had the pleasure of introducing my son in law to fishing. It reminded me of how fun and rewarding it is to introduce someone to something you love He did well for a rookie lol and so it became a blog post https://www.northernjacks.com/post/rookies Thanks for reading Andrew

Something a bit different for the newest post. My group is scheduled to go on a fly in trip late August with Slate Falls Outposts and to say we are excited is an understatement COVID 19 has had a huge impact on tourism across the board but outfitters in Northern Ontario have really been impacted with the border closing Chatting with Ryan Runge, owner and operator of SFO I wanted to see if I could do anything to help So please take a read of the Getting to Know my Outfitter post and get a sense of the day in the life of a tour operator and the SFO difference https://www.northernjacks.com/post/getting-to-know-my-outfitter Cheers Andrew

places to kayak fish near or in Toronto
gordy28 replied to Darius Langley's topic in General Discussion
If you are willing to drive out of the GTA there are quite a few good conservation area's that are great in a kayak - Guelph Lake, Kelso Conservation Area, Island Lake and Rockwood Lake are fun and have good opportunities for Bass and Pike and since no motors are allowed it yak friendly Andrew -
That looks like a blast. To be honest SK would not have been on my radar for a walleye/pike trip but it now is Thanks for sharing Andrew
