  1. You seem to forget the fact that the city and the state is surrounded by other states that have guns galore.
  2. My guess would be that more Canadians heat with softwood than with hardwood, S. Ont. being an exception. Most all the wood for sale here is hardwood but I ususlly scrounge some softwood. I thing he ideal ratio is somewhere around 2:1 for hardwood. Softwood is good for milder days and is great for getting the stove and flue heated fast, which is important to reduce soot deposits.
  3. No, Joe. You are just plain wrong!! It's not just a matter of opinion. Do you think the fact that the US have more guns per capita than other Western nations and also have the highest incidence of gun deaths is a COINCIDENCE????? Give your head a shake!! There's more evidence that the moon is made of green cheese than for contentions! Open your eyes!
  4. Two blondes are in a river holding fishing poles with the lines in the water. A game warden comes up behind them, taps them on the shoulder and says, "Excuse me, ladies, I'd like to see your fishing licenses." "We don't have any." replied the first woman. "Well, if your going to fish, you need fishing licenses." said the game warden. "But officer," replied the second girl, "we aren't fishing. All we have are magnets at the end of our lines and we're collecting debris off the bottom of the river." The game warden lifted up the lines and, sure enough, there were horseshoe magnets tied on the end of each line. "Well, I know of no law against it," shrugged the game warden, "take all the debris you want." And with that, the game warden left. As soon as he was out of sight, the women started laughing hysterically. "What a dumb Fish Cop! Doesn't he know that there are steelheads in this river?!"
  5. I like to think that when we, as Canadians, point out the problems that all those guns bring that we are doing it as your friends rather than out of any sense of smugness or imagined superiority. Leaving aside and Us-Cdn comparison, can anybody say that the Brits, for e.g., are any less free for not having hand guns??
  6. I like that. We have a g.daughter called "Lilybean'!
  7. I don't know why there is still a debate!!!
  8. 2 granddaughters with their 'personalized' paddles.
  9. Just following your example. Try posting once the pain goes away and maybe some logic returns!!
  10. I guess you need to marinate them overnite!!
  11. What kind of perverse logic is that? I have the right to whack myself repeatedly in the side of the head, but that doesn't mean I choose to do it!!
  12. Hear, hear!!! (but I still won't vote Conservative----too many other things Harper has done that I disagree with)
  13. From Spincast's post: "The US has higher rates of homicides from guns than Pakistan. At 4.5 deaths per 100,000 people, the US rates aren’t much lower than gun homicide rates in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (5.2 deaths per 100,000 people). Annually, the US has about two fewer gun homicide deaths per 100,000 people than Iraq, which has 6.5 deaths per 100,000." .
  14. as has already been said and repeated---He did NOT speak out against policy.
  15. You can believe that if you like, but your constitution---not God---gives you that right! We see the results all too often on TV.
  16. In Atlantic Canada they run in early summer. I would have thought that Lake O salmon would do likewise.
  17. Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean that they are not out to get you!!
  18. I think this sums it up quite well: "This is fundamentally undemocratic and even dangerous in the long term, particularly if we allow ourselves to become accustomed to it. Don't underestimate the insidious decay that will ensue if we continue to allow this government to bury information vital for our nation's integrity. Just as scientists have a responsibility to communicate research in the public’s interest, Canadians have a responsibility now to stand up for their right to hear what our federal scientists and researchers have to say about issues related to their safety, health and prosperity."
  19. not just anti-science. Anti anything that might not support their political dogma. Who needs a census to expose awkward facts? Who needs any new facts if your policy is already set by the leaders 'beliefs"???
  20. As was putting Fantino in charge of Veterans' Affairs( a stroke of genius, that!) Mike Duffy, Patrick Brazeau and Pam Wallin in the senate
