I like the $0.10 per fish idea, it seems that is what should be appropriate. My $120 st. croix premier (6'0 ML 2 piece spinning) has lasted through countless fish, including some bigger ones such as big bass, pike, and carp that have latched on incidentally and it's still working beautifully. Maybe it's lasted through so many big fish because I'm really good to it (don't yank on snags is the main thing, also never been slammed down or crushed in a door etc.)

I will also vote paris above the dam. Amazing smallie water, I'd say you could probably get about 20 each drifiting a 4-5 hour stretch just casting a mepps.

I think there are a lot of bowfin down there. They are probably one of the coolest fish imo and I'd love to catch more of them, but I guess a lot of people on here would probably disagree lol

I live in Burlington and frequent Kelso, Guelph, or Mountsberg at least once a week. I'll also echo what everybody above has said. Mountsberg you are going to get mostly 16" to 20" pike. Kelso you are going to get only bass which most if are on the small size but I have caught a 2 lber out of there. There are also supposedly smallmouth although I have only caught one puny one right above the dam. Kelso was also stocked with rainbow brown and brook trout at one point, so you could theoretically catch one, however it seems unlikely that a population would have established. At Guelph you are going to get a very nice combination of bass and pike, not as many as mountsberg but there are bigger ones. Fishing near the dam is awesome as said, and I have also had luck along hwy 129 (I think its called). Just make sure you park your car properly there because the OPP drives around all the time to hand out parking tickets to fishermen.

northernpike56 replied to Moosebunk's topic in General Discussion
My dad doesn't fish, He is more of a golfing guy, but he always took me fishing whenever we went to a cottage when I was a little kid to get me interested in it, he's still the coolest guy I know +1 for the thread, great idea -
Subaru ready to retire, looking at a new car. HELP!
northernpike56 replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
^ my dad bought his 335i about 6 months old, for appx 2/3 of the price that you would pay for a brand new one. Buy one very slightly used, because as soon as you drive a new car off the lot, it's going to drop down to appx 3/4 value of what you paid for it. -
Two more checked off the OFC bucket list

Ya ik, my dad just got new tires and front brakes for his 335i, it cost a little over 3000$ i think, but while they are still in warranty, and relatively new, they are awesome. My neighbour has a brand new C63 AMG and that car is so cool -
Caught a decent pike this morning, large baitholder hook hooked through the eyes, Ill post a pic later when i import the pic from my iphone to my laptop.

Ever considered a slightly used car? Ex. You can buy a 2011 or so bmw 3 series for the same price as most new japanese cars. Euro cars traditionally come with really long and excellent warranties too. And also the "american brand means american jobs" thing is somewhat a saying from the past... Look at the toyota plant in woodstock, for example. However, most euro cars such as bmw and m-benz are built in germany and shipped over on a boat. -
thanks so do you think a big single hook would be better then? somewhat like this, except both the minnow and hook would be a lot bigger

it is a pike for sure. I seem to catch a lot of them around here that are the exact same size, color and pattern. They love mepps blk fury #2 and #3

Hi guys. I am going fishing for pike tomorrow with live minnows (around 4 to 6 inches) but have one issue that I can't seem to perfectly resolve. This issue is the number of pike that keep on getting off after I have hooked them. I always wait a decent amount of time before setting the hook in order for them to swallow the minnow, so I don't think that is the problem. What have you guys found is the best way to hook minnows for pike? and also, do you have any preferences on the style of hook you use? For me, I have been hooking the minnows through the upper lip with a treble that the hooks seem to bend inwards a little bit but I've noticed that quite a few of my pike keep on getting off when hooked. Any suggestions? different areas to hook the minnows? different styles of trebles to use? Thanks Matt

Laying in bed playing on my phone right now and thought this would be a funny question to ask on here: What are some of your 'weird' incidental catches while fishing that you basically reel them in and think how in the hell..? They can be anything, weird fish, other animals, or garbage/stuff that was thrown into the water. Here are my top 5: 1. I caught a cheap fishing rod combo one time fishing in hamilton harbor. 2. Snapping turtle. (Multiple times) 3. Canada goose that went suicidal and actually ate my lure 4. 3 ft long watersnake 5. 10 inch long smallmouth bass that ate an 8 inch long sucker minnow rigged for pike. I have also caught quite a few seagulls as those things are completely stupid and will actually divebomb into the lake to grab lures like rapalas and livetarget.

Stepping up on my soapbox for a second

I've seen a guy catch an 8+ pound walleye in Hamilton harbor with a white spinnerbait. Weird thing was it was from shore in the middle of summer too. -
Hi guys, I want to drive up to Tobermory sometime this summer and fish in the harbor. I don't know why, I just have an interest for that general area basically. I will probably go in late August (the only time I don't have something else booked). What types of fish live in the harbor (both big tub and little tub) and what would be my best ways to catch them? Also, where would be the best spot to fish from? I was up there last summer with my mom and while we were having dinner downtown I saw some docks on little tub harbor (the marina) that I might be able to fish from. I think I could probably also drive around to the lighthouse point on big tub and possibly cast off of there. Here is a crappy pic of the harbor I found, just for a visual. Thanks a lot, Matt.
