  1. Thanks guys, going to try again possibly tomorrow or tuesday, with some worms this time too. Will post if I can actually catch something cool
  2. Quick pike related question- when I'm trolling for the bigger pike in deeper water (let's say 20-25 feet) how deep should I be running the lure? If I were to troll a J13 husky jerk, should I be adding a bunch of splitshot up the line to get it to run deeper?
  3. Okay great- I'll have my phone with me so taking pics of any good catches. Is there anyway to upload directly to here or do I have to go through photobucket?
  4. Snagalot, as Dover doesn't seem to be great now, perhaps try pt. maitland instead? I can guarentee you that there is always something willing to bite there, and for some reason if you strike out, you could either drive up to dunnville, byng island, or caledonia dam. All three have a good assortment of roughfish and some walleye. I have even caught a few perch at Byng, nothing huge mind you.
  5. Ok cool- my sister wants me to drive her down there to shop, so I figure I'll fish the dam a bit then we can go out for lunch etc. Few years ago I caught a very large smallmouth there but that was it. Will try drifting worms and split shot around there when I go, I have been having a ton of luck for walleye and bass with that setup this week already.
  6. Whats the fishing like at this spot? Looks like its good for smallmouth. Any walleye or pike swimming around as well? Thanks
  7. You can catch anything that swims in Lake Erie there at different times of the year. But you're right, right now you're most likely going to catch roughfish such as carp, sheephead, channel cats, and little white bass. You also have the possibility of catching walleye and perch, but later in the fall and earlier in the spring is better for those two. I would not eat the roughfish out of there simply because I think they're gross, but the Grand is actually a suprisingly clean river so I'm sure you'll be fine. If you are determined to eat the fish you catch, check out the Ontario guide to eating sportfish- it lists the different sections of the Grand all the way from Belwood down to Port Maitland.
  8. Thanks guys. I will pm you two on how I do.
  9. One time an opossum got into our house. My dad had to get it out by shoving it across the floor with a broom. Those things seem to paralyze when they think they're in a bad situation. It looked like it was dead lol
  10. Yes spring, like april, is apparently the time to go for perch at port dover. I have also heard that if you go in the fall, oct and nov to pt. maitland pier, you can catch a lot of walleye as they run up the grand river that time
  11. Asides from those, i have also caught smallmouth, carp, bullheads, rockbass, perch, and pumpkinseed there mid-summer ie around this time. Using a simple worm and splitshot
  12. I've been to Byng island a few times myself actually. I remember one year I was there in late May, lets say the third weekend appx, and I was mainly using walleye spinners (erie dearies) tipped with a big fat worm, casting them below the dam. Within about 2 hours, i remember catching at least 5 or 6 channel cats, a bunch of sheephead, a bunch of white bass, one of which was huge, and 2 very large OOS largemouth. Also the two guys that were fishing beside me also caught 2 walleye also on erie dearies.
  13. I'm going to algonquin for half a day sometime this week, going in the west corridor. Are there any good spots such as dumps etc that I would have a good chance of seeing a blackbear at? Never actually seen one before. Will be heading in super early anyways so they would probably still be out looking for garbage to eat
  14. Massive minnow on like an 18" steel leader of course, so no big pike chew through the line
  15. @freshtrax thanks- would you say freelining a massive minnow or trolling something that runs extremely deep in these areas works best?
  16. this is the one we're talking about (I think, you described what I'm talking about very well)
  17. nice muskie, I have an itch to catch one
  18. Hi guys, I am going to a cottage Lake Vernon for the week coming up, looks like we will be staying on the body directly north of Big Island, close to Vernon Shores. I will have access to a 14ft boat as well as a canoe for the week. Does anybody here have any advice on where to start looking for any of the main species on the lake (I believe they are LMB, SMB, pike, and lake trout). I also know there are supposed to be walleye on the lake, but their population is decimated, and nobody stocks the lake anymore. I also might try the nearby lakes Fairy and Peninsula, as I have heard that they can also be good pike lakes. Also might bring the canoe to Fox Lake as I have heard that it can be a good walleye lake. Any advice on those three if you know about them would also be appreciated. Matt.
  19. yea the launch next to the footbridge downtown is the one I mean, looks pretty nice to put a tin 14-16 ft boat in
  20. The ponds in Waterford mostly good bass and panfish fishing, actually. Although there are supposed to be a lot of pike there too. Check out the picture Rich has of a pike he caught there, its amazing. So, for boat launch, Sorry I'm really not good with street names etc as I live in Burlington, but there is a gravelly boat launch off the (main) street, that looks like it has a decently nice grade. It is close to this bridge over two ponds, basically everybody launches their boats there so I'm sure someone can give you way better info. and for parking, there are spots all along the street there that you could probably leave your vehicle and trailer. Areas to start fishing- those ponds are so cool because of the lily pads. they have completely open water that turns into a perfect line of lily pads, great places to either toss a whacky rigged senko, or drag a livetarget weedless frog through the lily pads. I remember the first time I went there with my uncle a long time ago, he showed me how to use the weedless frog through the lily pads and I caught the biggest fish of the day (2 or 3 lbs largemouth). So there are some big fish in there, plus I've caught a bunch of smaller ones from 0.5 to 1 pound with senkos as well. One last thing, no offence to anybody that lives there, but Waterford isn't exactly the nicest area, and there seem to be a lot of thieves, so make sure you don't leave anything important/valuable in your car. I have heard of peoples cars getting broken into etc so just be careful and play it safe. Good luck and post here if you catch anything cool!!
  21. nice picture of the boats- it seems pretty cool that all of the fish would actually be congregated in an area that small.
  22. that brown trout looks sweet, one day I'll catch one that fat
  23. Sorry, didn't see that you lost your gear and iPhone, do you have insurance to cover that, or would you be paying out of pocket?
  24. yes, scary stuff, glad to hear you're okay. I'm also curious as to what the process is after you're in an accident, if anyone would care to tell me. Also, did you save your fishing stuff, or will you go through insurance to get it refunded?
