  1. yup burn it across the surface, that'll get them feeding lol
  2. Mila Kunis, esp after she did that great interview with the guy who was super nervous. I think she has brains and would have some interesting things to say
  3. I'll also wish everyone a Happy New Year as I usually fall asleep before the clock hits midnight lol. Stay sober or at least make sure you have a DD and remember. soft water season is around the corner hahahah
  4. agree with others re:the over the top scripting. what's the point of showing 'real people' if you're not going to show the real deal ? was an off and on watcher of DD. Swamp People > Duck Dynasty by a country mile. Also love this show...http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/life-below-zero/
  5. Kinda looks like the Nitro
  6. REALLY ??? This is very interesting. My wife is open to the idea of a pick up as well...
  7. I miss the boxy looks of my old Cherokee and am waiting for them to realize they should drop a diesel power plant into the Patriot. It's that or I get the MB 250 Blue Tec cuz the Grand Cherokee is just stupid money.
  8. thanks for the info all. we've got a switch between the furnace and breaker box. nm from the switch to furnace which I could have pulled out and added a 15 or 20 amp plug if we had to. two neighbours (one's a contractor, other is contractor and apprentice electrician) mcguyvered their own temp solutions but one had a dirty generator which toasted his furnace's board I think. fortunately power is back but if we were going to be out longer, yeah, woulda done that as a short term solution. still want to add a transfer switch so I can run nm from the outside to the transfer switch and just flip it if it if the need arises. these are things one learns along the way. other interesting tidbit was re: the 1998 ice storm. talking to a Toronto Hydro guy, I mentioned that at least this one wasn't as bad as The Ice Storm of 98. His reply was that actually the one we just had was pretty close.
  9. Elf and the first Die Hard
  10. still got no power but we have a gas stove and water heater (non power vent thankfully) so we can have shot showers and cook up a storm lol. the honda genny is doing fine but we should have wired a transfer switch to power the furnace. the space heaters can keep us above freezing but like others said, it's like camping. good thing we camp in the winter and late fall almost tempted to set up the wall tent for serious heatage ha ha. we've seen crews all over the place but so far nada. workers say much depends on which feeder we're on etc.. we're fortunate that friends who have power have offered us places to couch surf. good luck to all who are still waiting for the power. it sucks bags but 3 days or so without power pales to the problems others are going through today. merry Christmas and happy new year to everyone at OFC !'
  11. great post Simon. good to see people acknowledging the 'choice' issue in that video clip
  12. I think his family standing by him is a given and whatever decision A&E makes (keep or cut bait), they will have to live with either way. They're kind of in a no win situation imo, entirely of their making. I'm agnostic and have MANY friends who are fairly deep in their convictions/beliefs but they don't try to bring me into the fold and I wish many more would do likewise. I also don't harp on them about why I'm not convinced of a greater being so we all get along great like peas in a pod
  13. yeah, friends in RH are watching a great light show from their upper floor condo, lots of transformers blowing up north of Toronto. We still have power but am reading on Twitter that many friends have gone dark.
  14. again, ^^ this. Russia is a great example of the intolerance the LGBT community deals with and the systemic challenges they face. My uncle is Christian (only one in our family…) and he's got a pretty fair head on his shoulders and understands and makes sure EVERYONE is deserving of love and respect. Not hate.
  15. Nah NG channel has that great show about people living near the Arctic Circle. Crazy lady waaay up north at an airstrip, the young trapper who I think is the most interesting person featured. The couple with the dog teams, meh... AE, OLC and others have long ago lost the plot in search of viewer numbers. I find APTN has some really good shows, Dene A Journey is a great one.
  16. After China, Alberta had the most insane drivers I've ever seen (Italians are just fast). Driving from Edmonton to Calgary on Hwy 2 one winter was eye opening. Super slick roads with glare all over, (cars in ditches EVERYWHERE) and people are bombing along at 120+. I thought I had a heavy foot but in these conditions I was blown away by the other drivers. Just shook my head and watched the parade as I continued on.
  17. ah, doesn't show up until you begin typing a reply. thanks Art
  18. the top musky looks like a freak of nature compared to the second one. both of which would probably send me into a fishing coma if I were able to boat those two beasts lol
  19. no idea if this website is legit or not as I'm not into musky (yet ha ha). anyone else heard about this ? http://muskokaoutdoors.ca/home/hunting-fishing-news/item/121-2-potential-igfa-musky-world-records-caught?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed#.Uqx2TaU8MjI
  20. all is fine in safari and firefox on my mac
  21. It's gotta be either Woolpower or Patagonia's Capilene series for me. The Capilene comes in various weights but I really love their lighter weight long johns and tops. Only other thing I wear is a one polar fleece piece bunny suit from either Kokatat or Stohlquist, under my drysuit. Advantages to bunny suits are no cold spot by the kidneys. Downside comes when you gotta go. and I mean you GOTTA go
  22. I find the staff can be hit and miss. Some young staff I find, um, can't be bothered or don't have time for older customers who don't fit their ideal of an MEC member. Just generalizing but something I've noticed in Toronto once in a blue moon, otherwise staff is very helpful. Camping and canoeing staff are very cool kats.
  23. with the density and lack of public space in the city, I'd like to know where exactly they plan to put all these super boxes ? They can barely shoehorn in TTC shelters…while Shoppers can be good for most deliveries (large parcels), they'd be over run with regular mail. Perhaps they should have kept open some of the postal stations that were shuttered and put the mail boxes there. Would have made perfect sense in terms of delivering mail without needing to drive to super boxes all over the city…dumb bureaucrats...
