You'd rather be a crappy guy who built a good airplane?

Hey Dana, I wasn't trying to be critical of you, my post was more a response to people having strict guidelines to eating fish because of taste/ease of cooking. It's hard to say which sizes you are best not keeping when you factor in both eating and conservation. For example if you are fishing for lakers on a lake with no slot, what is the best size to release? A source for coming up with a good size to release is similar waterbodies with a slot. Most places that have a slot will be no fish 40-55cm, but is that because releasing those fish is best for the ecosystem, or because that is the most frequently caught size and making the slot that size results in less fish kept overall? A similar example is if you are fishing for walleye on a lake with no slot. As Sinclair posted, 15-18" walleye are pretty damn tasty. But for places that a slot exists, those sized fish pretty much fall into the slot - so is keeping them on a waterbody you are allowed to keep them on good or bad for conservation? It's pretty hard to answer these questions, I'd just say stay legal, be reasonable and let the really big ones go.

Just heard about this, sadly I assumed this would be coming as soon as he stepped down. He didn't look very healthy at all. I'm not a fan of Apple but he was a great visionary.

People are so picky. If you fish in clean places, basically any fish of any size is going to be better eating than stuff you get at the grocery store. If I don't keep a fish to eat it is usually because that is what I deem to be better for the ecosystem (ex. 15lb pike, big laker) but not because I think that it will taste bad.

So how many years before the MNR puts a hanging curtain from that wire to clarify what "This area is closed to fishing" means?

Are you looking for something that folds up? If so I would consider buying one since a good folding up one is going to be hard to make and take a lot of time. If you are looking for something that doesn't fold up you have a lot of options. Making the walls/roof out of tarp could make for some obnoxiously loud days if it's windy though. The best small hut I have seen had a transparent roof, I assumed it was acrylic. The guy let me in for a bit and it was hot in there! Then again if you want to see better through the whole it's counterproductive. I think if you were clear in your intentions a lot of people could help out. How often are you going to be transporting it? What are you transporting it with? For how many people?

Lake Simcoe in the winter. Less than 10 years ago getting a limit of whitefish in half a day of fishing was pretty much guaranteed.

Need a quality camera for fishing, camping trips!
OutdoorDan replied to sturgman's topic in General Discussion
I have both a Canon DSLR and a Canon D10 which is a waterproof compact. I often carry both but I would not get a DSLR for taking fishing pictures. If it's raining you won't even take it out of the bag. Most fishing pictures don't require a DSLR and any messed up pictures you would get with the D10 would not be due to poor camera quality. For 500$ you can get a D10 and some accessories on top, take videos, and take underwater shots. Mine also works when it is extremely cold (including underwater shots ice fishing), and you can drop it from a considerable height and nothing will happen to it. It also fits into your pocket which means you will end up taking more pictures. -
Hey, Any chance you can give me directions? Thanks.

Hey, nice fish! I got 2 in August using a hoochie behind a spin doctor.

What are you talking about, carp are yummy!

Fresh and dead are kind of mutually exclusive. You aren't very likely to find a dead hen still with eggs. If you are that concerned about ethics, you can buy eggs, or alternatively find someone to give the fish you caught to if you don't want it.

Yeah a buddy is a truck driver and he said exactly this. The distance difference is negligible -- it's 2048km through the US and 2055 though Canada (taking the 17) but going through the US should save several hours at least.
-
Through the US is both shorter and faster. Also of the two routes that you can take through Canada, the shorter one is bad. Truckers, for example often take the longer one in distance (going through North Bay) because of better roads.

Where are you getting this information?

Sounds like a great day out. Mind if I ask what you were using?

Those must be some huge aviators. Nice fish.

I didn't catch that the first time. I might need to get rid of my tin foil hat.

Does that last video posted by jedi look fishy to anyone else? It's been around for a while and I've pondered it a bit. The guy looks fake and more like a store mannequin. He shifts a little (unnaturally) at the very beginning of the video, then is perfectly still - usually with videos like this you can see some movement from breathing. If you look closely at the way this "guy's" hat sits on his head, his hair and ears, as well as him thumb at the end of the video, these all look really fake. I think it is possible that this is just a dummy decoy with a broadhead that has been scented with attractant.

It is legal for you to keep sportfish in a tank at home, they just count against your daily limit. Now transporting them there legally from a lake you caught them at, that is another story. The law is weird like that. You can try calling a CO and tell him your intentions and get his interpretation of the law. This is a neat site I stumbled on a while ago... http://www.outdoorontario.net/AskMNR/mnrfaqfish.html So it seems like the transport law is there to prevent people from transporting live fish from one waterbody to another, and depending on how the law is interpreted, transporting it to your aquarium would be ok... Question 14: Is it legal to possess sport fish in an aquarium? Asked on September 24/99 Answer from the MNR: YES! But those fish must NOT exceed your daily/possession limit. So, if you have a small largemouth bass in your tank at home you may only have five other bass in your possession at any one time (assuming you have seasonal fishing licence). Also keep in mind that it is illegal to transfer fish from one body of water to another. This means you can't release your aquarium raised Ontario Sport Fish fish into any lake, river, stream or pond OTHER than the one from which it origianlly came. Naturally it is also illegal (and possibly very harmful to our fisheries) to release any exotic or tropical fish into Ontario waters.

Where Are All The Live Bait and Tackle Stores N GTA ?

Yes they are really expensive. Open 24h on weekends though. -
Actually if you use a deep diver behind a dipsy it might dive shallower than normal. This is because a deep diving lure will pull downwards harder on the tail end of the dipsy, messing up the angle of the dipsy and making it dive a little less. Although if you are using a magnum it might not make a big difference.
