  1. You can still eat it after if the muskie didn't....
  2. That's a cisco/lake herring.
  3. The same video is on youtube with these comments: My brother, nephews and a friend go "fishing" down a small drainage ditch in the flooded Spoon River. They counted 70+ 5-10lb. Asian Carp once they stopped the boat. The funniest part, is that Matthew, my youngest nephew, is curled up in the fetal position in the front of the boat the entire time, and you never see him! Also it is absolutely infinitely more hilarious when viewed in slow motion. ... ...
  4. Nice day on the water, I'd have a blast catching those all day!
  5. Where my boat is you have to travel quite a while through a very narrow channel to get out into the open water. It gets busy, especially on weekends. Mostly people fish on the outside of the channel, but sometimes people fish the channel itself. This is extremely annoying and shows a lack of common sense. It's like playing street hockey on Queen street - you just don't.
  6. People immediately start blaming things on citiots, where in actuality most people doing these things are likely those with a lot of experience on the water and attitudes akin to those of some taxi drivers that think they own the road.
  7. While this is true, proper discretion needs to be exercised by the authorities, particularly in what is a pretty gray area.
  8. Yep, 3.0 is way outdated. Here's the latest one: http://www.mozilla.com/products/download.html?product=firefox-5.0&os=win&lang=en-US
  9. You need completely different lines for bass and muskie, 20lb for muskie is way to low. I would go 10lb test line for bass.
  10. I thought this only had to do with asian carp?
  11. Works fine here. What version of FF are you using?
  12. This I did not think of. Sigh.
  13. I think the ethics of that shot are for everyone to decide for themselves based on their shooting ability. As for no stalking and no challenge to the hunt, I myself don't see much of an appeal for hunting like that, but it's illogical to say that hunting must necessarily happen in a challenging fashion. What about stocked fish ponds?
  14. Yes, I am. Since line capacity wasn't an issue I figured it would not hurt to go 50lb instead of 30lb or whatever.
  15. The diameter of 50# Power Pro is 0.014" which is approximately like 12# mono. Joey, that's good advice. Is there any chance of losing the o-ring like that?
  16. Seems like a great way to cut a trip to the grocery store short and save some money!
  17. Beautiful camera work! What camera were you using and how did you mount it so high on the bow of the canoe?
  18. Hi all, So I got my new boat: I decided on the Starcraft 196 Fishmaster. I've already gone out for short trips a couple of times, but have still to catch a fish, will post pics when I finally do! So it's not time to slowly start getting all the proper equipment. I got a couple of dipsy divers as well as proper trolling rods for them with counter reels. However the charts for the dipsy divers are all for 20lb mono, I'm using 50lb Power Pro. Is there a factor I can multiply the depth by that will reflect the difference in depth due to line diameter? For example if the dipsy diver gets down to 50 feet with 20lb mono and 75 feet with braid, then that factor is 1.5. I'm sure those with experience can chime in. Thanks! Dan.
  19. I think they just randomly pick things to ask, it would take to long to go through everything. Just imagine: fishing license, ID, boater card, whistle, rope, propelling device/anchor with rope, flares, fire extinguisher, life jackets, fish in livewell, alcohol, compass... the list goes on. Chances are, if you have the orange bucket, you have the other stuff that is in it and so forth. Also, they might just be good judges of character and had you gotten nervous or snappy with them, they may have then felt the need to make sure you have all the details.
  20. Smoked fish can last a bit and it's nice sitting over dinner with your family talking about the trip while eating the fish that you caught.
  21. I don't really buy the whole low budget thing. Stand by a creek in October > Fine 15 snaggers > Get money > Make more enforcement. Rinse and repeat. It's not hard. A CO could easily accumulate over $1000 every day in fines just by giving out 200$ snagging tickets in the fall. But they don't. They are not stupid, it's obvious where to go. I think it's just a general flaw of approach/mentality in the MNR, possibly the approach that there are "bigger things to deal with".
  22. All, I wanted to thank you for input. I'm in the process of digesting everything, there are many opinions and factors I have to weigh here. I'm definitely taking my time because I want to get it just right. Also thank you to those who have been kind enough to PM me and help me out! Dan
  23. Very informative bug info, and holy - you are a machine, sir.
  24. Is the garage door 92"? A lot of the 19-20 foot boats I have looked at are 96-100" at the beam.
  25. If you read the other report tread, it's obvious he kept some. However he clearly did his homework to avoid breaking any rules.
