Hi all, I recently got a Ci 4 2500 and wanted a spare spool for it. I find it ridiculous that the reel doesn't come with a spare spool in the first place, but what can you do... Anyone had any luck getting spare spools? I checked ebay but the only available options were from Japan or USA which converts to 35$ shipping. Is is possible to get the directly from Shimano? Thanks!

Wow, gorgeous fish.

Good advice in your post, but... I think I speak for a lot of people here -- I'm jealous!

People using the braid in the winter -- are you in huts or portable shelters? I'm also considering moving to braid for deep water ice fishing applications but I never fish in a shelter so going to be more prone to freeze-ups.
-
Yes of course the rod is important as well. Again though I only fish for perch in the winter and thinner line just lets you know more about what is going on down there with a small bait. Plus if you get something big on it's going to be a rush!

Skipper, 10lb for perch can get really annoying if you are using smaller baits because you lose sensitivity. Also in the context of ice fishing lighter baits go down faster with thinner line.

Have you considered marriage counselling as a career option, sir?

Thanks, manitou. Yes, the colour is going to be ridiculous for seeing against the ice...I didn't realize it was the only colour they produced, but I just checked their website and the only colour is "crystal white" as they call it.

If I'm using braid it's PP -- from the 50lb I use on the dipsy rods to the lighter 10/15lb on my jigging rods. On a separate note since this doesn't deserve it's own thread: I'd like to start using braid for ice fishing applications particularly when I am fishing deep water. Anyone have experience with nanofil in these situations? I took a look at it today and judging by the texture it shouldn't hold water and freeze up. Anyone have experience with it?

Lanterns that you use to illuminate the immediate area around you are fine, the intention of the law is to prevent people from hanging lights outside of their boats/very edge of the dock for the purpose of attracting fish.

Ah, thanks. I was misinformed -- I just read their FAQ and it only gets corrupted if you try to copy it.

This is a scam. There are many ways that you can get scammed using Paypal, read their TOS: https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/seller/ChargebackRisk-outside Focus on: When a chargeback occurs, the money that is subject to the chargeback is deducted from PayPal's bank account. In turn, PayPal places a temporary hold on the same amount in the seller's PayPal balance (i.e., the funds related to the transaction are frozen). The seller and PayPal can work together to investigate the chargeback with the buyer's credit card company. While the chargeback is being investigated, PayPal will debit the seller for the amount in question. If the investigation is resolved in favor of the seller with the credit card company, the credit card company will reimburse PayPal for the chargeback and PayPal will transfer the recovered funds back to the seller. Depending on the credit card company involved, the process may take up to 75 calendar days. In a dispute over a chargeback, the decision is ultimately made by the credit card company and PayPal cannot control the outcome. Also Paypal, Ebay etc. will always be biased against the seller. A while ago someone told me about selling a laptop on ebay, and the buyer sent back pictures of that laptop arriving completely banged up and got refunded. This happened despite it being obvious that the buyer was just running a scam where he had a banged up laptop and would buy laptops that are the same model, provide pictures as proof, and essentially get to keep the laptop for free. This is obviously different from selling a boat but just be careful with online transactions.

I heard putting a navionics chip inside a computer renders it unusable, I'm not 100% but read up on this first!

Personally I think silver looks much better in those reel in the water and fish alongside rod handle shots, especially against fall backgrounds.

Maybe a bait shop he was planning to stop by was closed and he decided to go plan B!

Fisherman, Do you remember where that article was published? I'm really curious about what this stuff is and what it looks like. And where do they go/hide during the day -- the biomass needed to light up the screen like that over miles of water is huge. Mike, This looks exactly like you described - not too much going on at the very top of the water column and below about 18FOW consistently lit up. But it doesn't show up like a school of bait, rather uniformly spread out everywhere. Maybe the musky got mixed in there by chance?
-
He could have also been fishing for bait. I've used a rod before to catch large chub.

Please do not do either of these. One of the reasons people are hesitant about donating money to charities is because of how the money is allocated. Sorry, but these organisations have better uses of people's time and money than fixing up common birds. Not much harm done here if a raccoon gets to it.

I was thinking it was bait as well but then this would go on for miles (!) of water and it's just so unlikely that there is so much bait hiding and invisible during the day. Also this shows up in 80FOW as well so I think that would discount a lot of fish rising up off the bottom. It has to be something though - all the setting and location are the same as during the day. My dad's theory is that this is some plankton bunching up during the night, but that seems a little farfetched for my liking.

Hi all, A weird thing has keeps happening to me at night - my fishfinder lights up and goes crazy. Here's a picture of what the screen looks like at night: This would be everywhere - 40 FOW, 80 FOW, whatever. Going over identical areas during the day would mark the odd fish but the screen wouldn't light up like that. I don't think this is fish, so what gives? This was in the Severn Sound area, however I experienced similar things staying out past sunset on Lake Joe in the winter where the sonar would start to have weak signals showing sporadically throughout the water column. Thoughts?

My boat is in Waubaushene on Georgian Bay and getting out from the Hwy. 400 area I can tell that water is down almost a foot. I stirred up a lot of mud getting out of the marina.

Whitefish have a limit of 12 because they are not really targeted, on places where they are targeted it's less - for example Simcoe. A lot of the places that have a limit of 12 whitefish used to be 25, so targeting them has become more popular. And for good reason - they are tasty!

Those aren't the topless pics I was looking for! Nice fish!

Randy, I'm fairly certain that it's a wire that is exactly 75 feet below the entrance to the fish ladder.
