  1. Epic brother, simply epic! Old school Bernie jig is simply killer! Have a great time up north, like you need me to tell yah that and I know we will be in for Epic report number 2. Good to see your Dad doing well too! Drive safe brother! HH
  2. I think it is as simple as the local Swiss Chalet cleaning out their "Chalet sauce" tank. Cormorants like a little side sauce to , ya know! HH
  3. A guy is driving around the back woods of Tennessee and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: 'Talking Dog For Sale .' He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard. The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there. 'You talk?' he asks. 'Yep,' the Lab replies. After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says 'So, what's your story?' The Lab looks up and says, 'Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA. In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping.' 'I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running. But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals.' 'I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired.' The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog. 'Ten dollars,' the guy says. 'Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?' 'Because he's a liar. He never did any of that stuff. HH
  4. Nice Dano... really nice...! My brother has a buddy who's family has had a cottage on Horwood. He's been going for a long time. They mostly use minnows caught in their trap and yes, he says the same thing... the place is littered with small pickereyes. The pics are great, well, except the one with Lloyd in it! Glad you had a great time and thanks for the report! HH
  5. In reality, if you are that concerned about the numbers of Bows caught on and released on Lake O, you sould really consider the following. From some time in June, until September /October the vast majority of Bows caught on Lake O, will die upon release. When they are pulled up to the surface, the water temp there kills them. Some maybe lucky and have the hand of an experienced guide releasing them, with probably a higher number surviving, but by in large, most will die. So, in reality, if you really want to "save" the Lake O bows for shore fishing, you will probably have to ban blue water trolling. Good luck with that! HH
  6. Well, with the recent labour concerns, the economy and all the other stuff going on in the world, we sometimes forget the things that really make humans special. This performance really hit the mark with me, so in an effort to perhaps help some of you have a slightly better day, I am posting this link here. I hope you feel the same way I do... I found it really helped me get over the frustrations of the day. Reafirmed my human spirit! Enjoy! HH
  7. Great time for folks to go on strike! Thousand's are out of work, the economy in the tank... all over sick days!!! I expect that those striking will have little or no support from the general public, actually, I think many will be pissed! Not an attach on ou Phil, you have to follow the rules of the road so to speak... I actually ran into Sid Ryan a couple of weeks back, he was leading a group of protesters on Bay street. I suggest to Sid, that if he really wanted to help the people of Toronto, he should take his own life! He didn't seem too amused. Gonna be a smelly summer in the big smoke! HH
  8. The paper I received indicated I would be getting "Game and Fish" magazine... although I would rather get In-Fisherman as a consolation. I have recently recieved an In-Fisherman in the mail, I thought it was just a promotion... oh well, we'll just see what shows up! HH
  9. Looks like you guys had a blast, but more so the kids! Although, not really a carp fan, those carp looks pretty clean and healthy! Thanks for the report and BTW - really nice pics! HH
  10. Good luck on your new career choice Stoty! The upside of being a Fire Fighter is the days off you receive, which would allow you to have a small business on the side, continuing your I.T. consulting. You may find yourself busier than ever, once you secure the fire fighters job and your clients start to call you requesting I.T. services. I hope it works out for you! HH
  11. I have been a subscriber of this magazine for a number of years. Yesterday in the mail, I received notice that Walleye In-Sider Magazine will no longer be published. I can't say I'm surprised, as the magazine is so closely tied to the former, now defunct PWT. In place of my regular subscritption, I will now be receiving a regional edition of Game and Fish magazine. I won't comment on that mag,. as I have never seen it. I'll let you know my thoughts upon arrival. Just thought I'd pass the news along! HH
  12. Hook up with Fish Hunter for a day on Lake O. Lloyds a great guy and know his stuff. He'll learn yah! HH
  13. I haven't added L/C to L/C. Haven't had a need for it! I have two L/C reels, both line counters (Admittedly, I'm lazy! I don't want to watch the colours leaving the reel, I use my line counter to determin amount of line out.), one with 5 colours, mostly for pickereyes and one 10 colour for great lakes. Should the ten colour not be capable of reaching the depths I'm seeking, I simply add an off shore snap weight at or near the L/C and leader junction. I can't emphisize enough however, how much boat speed affects L/C trolling. I also, because I have no hands on experience, am not sure if 20 clours of lead in the water will net you more depth as I beleive there comes a point where the drag of the line in the water, starts to pull the line up. Bait type might have an incluence on this as a hard driving crank will help to pull the line down. Maybe someone who has run 20 colours could give us some insight? HH
  14. You can fish any number of "colours in the water" you wish, the lead core will not hurt your reel or guides. I have used it in water as shallow as 15-20ft with as little as three colours in the water. It is highly effective when trolling flats, where close bottom contact is required. You can hook L/C up to a planer board with no ill effects. You don't need floro as backing as your lure will be a good 300ft away from your backing, with ten colours out. You may consider a floro leader, many swear by it, I don't. I have posted this before, but not for a while, so here it goes again: I don't use a knot to connect my leader or backing to L/C. I pull back 2-3 inches of the covering and snip the lead. I then push my backing or leader into the empty sheath and apply a drop of crazy glue to the seam. I let it dry for about a minute, then apply crazy glue the the entire joint. Allow it to throughly dry before reeling it up in the reel, takes about ten minutes. You now have a knotless connection that will not interfere with reeling it in. It also last for years! I have caught chinny's, steeles, coho, pickereyes, you name it on this system and have not EVER had it break. Depending on the lb test of the l/c, you can easily snug 20-30lb test, into the l/c sheath. If your using it on Lake O for example, I suggest 30lb. It will work well for chinny's and has far less stretch then lesser mono. One other point... L/C will play games with your reel's drag system. It doesn't like l/c and takes a great deal of pull to release the reels drag. That's one of the reasons I use a heavier lb test backing. Speed is the major determining factor for depth achieved. Hope this helps!? HH
  15. Dara, I agree with you... to a degree. Respect is earned. On the other hand, respect is easily lost, much easier than earning it. Being told continuously that I should have respect, really diminishes it. It's starting, IMHO to get old. No one here has the right to tell anyone how or what to believe. I think some are simply trying to add a little levity to the situation. It may be in bad taste to some, but others may be thinking the same thing, but are hesitant to to post. Again... congrats on the job wormdangler! HH
  16. Congrats on securing employment wormdangler! Jobs can be like that... feast or famine. I can tell you from a position of authority and experience, it always works out this way! I fail to see how dis-arming bombs in Europe or anywhere else has anything to do with Wormdanglers question. Frankly, I getting tired of seeing threads being hijacked based on others personal agenda. You got issues, start a thread! (Just like Peter did!) HH
  17. Really nice job fellas! The head on the 40+ is massive! HH
  18. What you are referring to is commonly known is the "music" world as G.A.S.! Stands for .... GEAR AQUISITION SYNDROM! It is an affliction that is very common amoung fisher people and will attack at any time. Typically, it strikes shortly after you just spent a ton of dough on something and you suddenly believe that you must also, add some other piece to your equipment puzzle. This syndrom is only cured when a purchase is made, a significant amount of buyers remorse has set in and you realize that you probably could have gotten away without buying said gear. Who am I kidding, G.A.S. is not cureable! HH
  19. Doh! Not that there's anything wrong with that! I've got to read what I post before I post it I guess! HH
  20. Nice fish, how'd it taste? Thanks for posting! HH
  21. Take the job, keep looking. He may be a prick, but that may only be some folks opinion. One man's prick is another man's best friend. His network of industry contacts could become your new larger network. Is he putting you on payroll or is he paying cash daily? Cash wouldn't affect your EI. As mentioned above, you are significantly more marketable in the eyes of employers when your working vs not. HH
  22. Off Shore snap weights... poor man's down rigger! HH
  23. Hey Clive, my PTi is probably around 10years old. Now, that being said, I can recall entire years where I did not use it at all, being as I am a mostly trolling kinda dude. (OK, back then I was, but I have started casting again) So, in essence, the reel may have only one "true" season on it. I take care of my equipment, heck I still have a Johnson Century I bought back in the early 70's and it works like the day I bought it. I have Mitchell reels that are almost as old as me, they still work... ok, probably a little better than me! The reason I bought this reel was I broke the handle off an older Quantum that I really liked. As I had some challenges sourcing a new handle, I figured, what the heck, I'm worth it, I'll buy another Quantum. Big mistake as far as my experience with this reel goes. Bernie and Gerritt can attest to the challenges this reel has given me as they were there this past 24 weekend and watched as the ati-reverse would simply let go, at the worst of times I might add. Also, they had front row seats, watching my crawler separate itself from my jig when I casted out and the bail would close on the reel, with the jig only half way to it's destination! Maybe I got a dud, I don't know, but there is no love lost from me, with this reel! HH
  24. No doubt John! If memory serves me well, I believe that I paid about $20.00 for a spool of non leader type Floro... I think it was a 250 or 300yd spool. HH
  25. Well, based on my experience with a Quantum PTi, I'd have to say Shimano! My Quantum is very perdy, shiny and looks fantastic with the sun reflecting off of it, but that anti-reverse is crap. It decides from time to time to simply disengage ON IT"S OWN! Also, the bail sometimes decides to close, ON IT"S OWN mid cast. If it wasn't so dang perdy, it would be sitting on the bottom of the lake. HH
